Turkey Guy Photo-ops
I was looking at that awful video of Sarah Palin babbling cluelessly while that bloody turkey guy lops off heads in the background, and I realized... I've seen that guy before. So I looked through my photo archives and sure enough, he's made inappropriately gross appearances in various other Republican photo-ops:

I'm going to be sick.

He looks like such a perv looking over his shoulder like that, seeing if the camera is catching him doing his dirty deed.
Funny stuff.

Notice the bemused look on his face. I'm sure he was wondering " What the fuck is Palin babbling about now ? ".

Not that anyone would notice, but I stayed fairly mute over the "turkey killing" situation.
My family has been involved in poultry farming since before WWI. Yeah that's a "one"!
We used to just have a stump with two nails positioned just right so we could grab a bird, stick their neck in between the nails, pull, and chop!
Thus comes the saying, "running around like a chicken with it's head cut off"! We always did it very fast!
The "funnel" you saw was a bleeding cone! It's used to make things easier and cleaner for the killer! We use a circular set up with 10 cones now.
But we electrocute our birds! It's called stunning! We used to "stun" the birds but now we kill the birds by electrocution!
Our method is much more humane! It was obvious from the video that no stunning was involved! They just grab 'em, shove 'em in there, and chop there heads off!
That is a bass-ackwards way of doing shit!

His name has got to be Joe -- Joe the Turkey killer!

Don't you see, everyone? It's OKAY that we inflicted violence on animals in order to eat them because you don't have to actually see it! And if you can't see it, it doesn't exist. So eat more turkeys! And beefs! And lambs! And pigs! And chickens! And fishes! And ducks! And geese!
They all died peacefully and contentedly because you didn't see otherwise. It's so simple.

this photo just reminded me how great laura bush has been all along.she has quietly done a whole lot of good over the past eight years.she is living proof that people should not be judged by their ideology.yes, she is the exception to the rule when it comes to conservatism,im just sayin...

Electablog...I agree with your point completely - and Im not a true vegetarian. If I did watch animals being slaughtered, Im sure I would be. I delude myself. (Maybe not for much longer).
But what you said reminds me of the way the Bush administration has sanitized this war by not allowing us to the pictures of the dead, the wounded or even the flag draped caskets. Nor do we really hear about all the suicides and permanant disabilities that have occured.
We have been deluded about the true horror of war. Im sure these images had been allowed to be shown to the American people, this war would have ended a long time ago.

Excellent point, cm. Very well said.
Some images have made it out of Iraq, just not into the MSM, of course. YouTube has a ton of footage shot by soldiers - horrifying stuff:

@ cminri:
That was sorta the meme I was aiming for, albeit somewhat sideways-like :D
I have this personal wish/rule that everyone who eats meat has to kill one largish animal per year. They have to personally be responsible for the death and processing of one living creature that they eat once a year. I just bet there'd be lots more vegetarians when people realize beefs don't come on square polystyrene trays wrapped in cellophane but rather require that you have to ... well ... you know ...

It's disturbing to see how some people even poke fun at the slaughter of animals to please their palates for meat. Perhaps if they processed the idea in their tiny and insensitive brains that animals feel and suffer just like human animals do, they might stop to think for a moment how they would feel if they were at the receiving end of what the animals go through. Vegetarianism is growing so I would like to believe that in decades to come human animals will become more aware, enlightened and sensitized, and will look back in horror at the atrocities committed against innocent animals for the sake of providing one's mouth a temporary salivary fix.

Joe the Turkey Guy reminds me of all the pictures that were floating around of Baghdad Bob.

I think I can safely say that if more vegitarians were exposed to goats, there would be fewer vegetarians. And fewer goats.
Of course, the first couple would probably be inedible messes....
Spent part of my childhood herding the damn things. I joyfully celebrated the end of that time with mint jelly.
