Two Things On This One
But understand where the vision for change comes from first and foremost. It comes from me. That’s my job — is to provide a vision in terms of where we are going and to make sure that my team is implementing it.
First thing... Exactly. As Josh Marshall pointed out today, it's the policies, stupid, and those are handed down from a strong chief executive.
Now the second thing... The president-elect has a couple of bad habits when speaking extemporaneously. You've probably noticed. 1) It's not illustrated above, but he often repeats verbatim an attack against him, which only serves to validate the attack, and 2) he has a tendency to say "my job is to..." a bit too much. It was one of my hang-ups about President Bush, quite frankly. The better approach is to simply do the job or to convey by example what the president's job is all about. In other words: show don't tell.

I agree that he runs the risk of sounding to much like G.W. Shrub when he says, "My job..."
I think he's trying to convey the sense of, 'Chill-the-fuck out; I got this." But yes, now it's time for him to "No try; DO"(in the words of Mr. Miyagi...or was it Yoda?).

Well I wouldn't go so far as to say he's sounding like W. Let me know when the words "decider" or "misunderestimated" come out of his mouth.

I think he should have punched the asshole in the throat. It was a stupid question, designed to put Obama on the defensive and force him to justify every appointment as if there was no thoughtful consideration about who to include in the cabinet. He didn't decide last week on these choices and the transition team didn't pull the names out of a Clinton Administration Who's Who Book of Washington Insiders. They've all been working nonstop literally since the networks called the election for Obama and these second stringers from BBQ Media are dutifully repeating the current meme generated over at Hannity HQ.
Why doesn't this idiot go hound Grover (Grover?!? WTF kind of name is that anyway?!?!) Norquist and ask why, if liberals are such big meanies to the markets, the Wall Street boys wet their collective dress slacks with happiness at the announcement of Obama's economic team?
The BBQ Media and The Democratic Caucus should get together and go bowling one night. They'd get along great, sharing stories about how afraid they both are of the Right and it's noise machine.
BLARG! I'm all worked up now!

Hi Bob,
I think he is 'showing' by the steps he's taken so far. Let's not forget, the man doesn't become 'President Obama' until January 20, 2009, so there is not much more he can 'show' until that time.
I also have a bad habit peeve with our President-elect; saying 'look' at the beginning of a sentence drives me MAD.
Stop it I say! Just, STOP IT!!

Ed Henry is going to have a harder time trying to make a name for himself by asking questions he thinks are going to catch Obama off guard. Just sayin'.

Comment I made in earlier thread.
"As I see it "change" means policy change not the pepes implementing said policy. He never said change would be in how it was done or who would be doing it. I'd like to give him a chance to get in office & implement his policies before losing it. After 8 years of that, I think I can wait 50 or so days to decide."
Now I feel psychic!
Oh, and if he conveys by example, fine by me if he also says it. Again, how about giving him a chance to get in offce.

Yeah but when Bush said "it's my job" he sounded like a five year old who just had it explained to him. Plus he was usually wrong.

@ El Mystico
That perfectly described what I noticed about Bush early on - he seemed to explain everything in the same simple, easy-for-an-idiot-to-understand terms that had been used in the explanation given to him. He always seemed excited to let everyone know he'd just learned something, too.
