Hearings Petition : Idea Thread

by Lee Stranahan

The Congressional Hearings On Layoffs petition is going pretty well, I think. Right now, there's 386 signers and lots of really great comments. My Huffington Post piece has been featured on both the Politics and Business sections for the last day. I've never started a petition before so I don't know what to compare it to.

I don't exactly know what to do next, so I'm throwing it open to the Goddamn Awesome community for ideas to keep the train a'rolling.

Well, I remember hearing the petition to pardon Randy "Duke" Cunningham only got 13 signatures in the past however many years so I'd say you're off to a good start.

...like the Chicago window and door company that went bankrupt. Bank of America (a recipient of bailout bucks) refuses to pay employees for hours worked, as well as unused vacation pay. Wonder of Bank of America execs got bailout-money bonuses this year, hmmmm?

I signed yesterday1

I totally agree with you!

I'm not a "wordy" person so I didn't include a comment.

Google WITT vs. YOYO!

Or I'll save you the time:

I didn't sign the petition. I'm still trying to think about if I agree with the idea or not. But, some questions:

1. Did the survey include email addresses? Can you email the signers and ask them to take notice of the petition?

2. Can you get this off to your own congress person? Your senators?

I guess my point is - you probably need to be thinking about how to get from point a to point b... raising more awareness and getting your congressfolks attention.

HEY! Why not make a movie about it?

If you could get about a thousand that would be better. If you sat outside the unemployment offices near the worst layoff areas I'm sure you could many thousands!

I'm working on a video - a few shots are done, all animation. It's slick-ish.

I have limited access to email addresses...

What's you hesitancy on signing? I'm curious....maybe I'm not explaining it well enough...

Right now, the whole petition process is online...

I'm trying to figure out the Facebook 'causes' thing but it seems like I need to be a non-profit
