Barack's Cocktail Party

by Lee Stranahan

If you expect me to say that I think Barack Obama having a cocktail meeting with conservative media people like Brooks, Will, and Kristol is exactly why Obama is the most exceptional politician of our generation....well, then you know me pretty well because I'm very consistent on this point.

But really - can you imagine Bush doing this? Getting together to toss back a few with Maddow and Sirota and Rich and Olbermann? W. lacks the self-confidence to do such a thing.

Obama is the anti-Bush in every way that matters for our great nation's karma and future stability.

This was mentioned in the comment section of Daily Kos:

Basically its a room full of people whose work over the past year and a half or so was dedicated to defeating Obama. And now they have to sit down at a table with the living, breathing proof of their total defeat.

The idea of Bush doing this with liberal media types has nothing to do with his lack of self-confidence. He wouldn't do it because of his extreme arrogance and disdain for anyone who wouldn't fanatically and loyally support him.

I'd do it with anybody, even Elvis. That's because i like beer. Who's there is not what's important. What you are drinking is. Priorities.

It's great he did this, and I am a fan of George Will's. I don't agree with him on a lot of things, but he's intelligent and represents his side better than that smug douchebag Kristol. Brooks is somewhat insufferable but conveniently inconsequential. Again, though, why Kristol? Such a goddamn tool!

But I had the same thought, I can't imagine Bush ever entertaining such a thought for even a second. I imagine the only serious discussion at that dinner was between Will and Obama and it would have been great to be a fly on the wall, but I hope Obama didn't take any of Mr. Will's advice.

Isn't this an example of their definition of "appeasment" and "appeasing the enemy"? Isn't this what they accused Obama of during the election?

I mean really, what kind of conservative would have dinner with a guy whose middle name was Hussien?!! Did I just hear Malkin and Coulter's heads explode?

Opps. Sorry about the triple post.

Except for Kristol, the biggest loser of them all, haven't the rest of the conservatives all written negative things about Sarah Palin? Yes Kristol, you don't even fit in here, you red-faced clown.

Obama is supposed to meet with "non-Republican" columnists tonight (doesn't "non-Republican" mean...Democratic?), can't wait to see what that group will be.

You're right, I can't imagine Bush sitting down with Sirota, Maddow, et al. Unfortunately, I can't imagine Obama doing it either.

Cory, Obama sat down today with some people like Maddow, Rich etc. No Sirota I believe, though it would have been nice, but it's better than nothing.

Sorry, Lee, again, but I'm missing your point: there can be no future stability if the war crimes that HAVE ALREADY occurred are not investigated and prosecuted. There can be no leadership without accountability.

Man, now I regret my first post being a backhanded swipe at Obama. I'm sure he'll meet with progressives; I still just wish all Dems would worry about pissing off the left as much as they do about the right.
