Rudy Giuliani just now on Morning Joe:

It's very, very strange that on the day the president announced this, they discovered a guy that was released, who was killing people. (laughter) I follow this situation pretty closely and just talked to someone who's been to Guantanamo and looked at the conditions there. This is not an unusual occurrence. There have been arguably 30 or 40 situations like that where people are released from Guantanamo have killed innocent people -- have killed American soldiers.

What the hell?! First, laughing and smiling after saying the words "who was killing people" is very simply insane. But also, who released those detainees? Not President Obama who was sworn in on, you know, Tuesday. No-one's talking about shutting down Guantanamo and then letting everyone go. We're shutting down Guantanamo and moving the inmates to other prisons.

Goddamn. There's a level of batshit crazy in Vlad Rudy that is unsurpassed in the ranks of batshit wingnuttery.

Did anyone have the decency to point out that the release of this person occurred during Bush's watch?
Or that Obama has not announced the release of anyone?
This is why I can't watch Morning Joe.
My doctor has assured me that my head will explode if I do.

Anyone ever hear of rule of law??

And isn't it possible that perhaps these (supposed) 30-40 situations may not have occurred if they hadn't been subjected to Gitmo? I mean, if you throw a 16 year old kid in there, don't let him sleep for weeks, put him in stress positions and all those other supposedly okay, 'not torture' things, he'd leave a pretty fucked up individual. A kid who originally may have felt no need to join a terrorist organization may feel a little differently after leaving Gitmo.

I have similar feelings about suicide bombers. Not to excuse their actions, but if you shot my kid, I'd be willing to strap on some stuff and go out looking for revenge. We have created a lot of our own enemies.

But Vlad Rudy is insane. And lives in the same bubble with Bushie.

I just e-mailed the Morning Joke™ team:

Hi Morning Joe Team,

During your interview with Rudy Giuliani, he mentioned that a released Guantanamo prisoner was discovered killing people the day after President Obama order Gitmo to be closed. (He said it with some unfortunate laughter.)

I have two questions:

1 - Why didn't anyone respond to Giuliani with the fact that Obama isn't talking about releasing those in Gitmo, but transferring them to other prisons. He respects the rule of law and habeas corpus.

2 - Since President Obama has only been sworn in since Tuesday, who was it that released these 30 or 40 prisoners that Giuliani talked about? Oh, right. It was the Bush Administration. God forbid you should mention those facts to America's Mayor.

I suggest we all do the same. E-mail Morning Joke™.

I don't watch TV in the morning (not part of the ritual), but did Rudy mention 9/11?

'Cause, I'm not sure if I believe this without some way of verifying that it was him.

This story really amazes me. The Republicans are running with it as proof that Gitmo should stay opened and the Bush policies continued, yet it was under these very policies this guy was released. To me this article proves that change needs to happen at Gitmo and with the detainees, but the wingnuts are too drunk on the Kool-Aid to comprehend that.

Of course we don't know if this guy was really a terrorist when he was captured. Hell - Gitmo could have pushed him over the edge, but you sure as hell won't hear a Republican saying something like that.

Bob, you can always use my escalation term for those who have gone beyond batshit crazy to Britney Spears' level: it's called Batshade. A shade of batshit crazy so far beyond the comprehension of mortal humans. You and this site are still Awesome!
