Stop Worrying And Learn to Love The Deficit

Despite the urgent "breaking news" tone I'm hearing on MSNBC, a large $1.2 trillion federal budget deficit is good news right now. Not bad news. The government has to spend, or we're all screwed. That's the reality. History has proved the theory.

The other thing is this:

WASHINGTON — Congressional estimators are projecting an unparalleled budget deficit of $1.2 trillion for the 2009 budget year.

A top congressional aide briefed on the estimate says the Congressional Budget Office also sees a $703 billion deficit for 2010.

I know this doesn't exactly add up, but if any Republicans (who don't know anything about history or economics) complain to you about the "big spending" Obama administration, it can be said that Obama and the Democrats have already cut the deficit by 30 percent. Amazing!

Everyday now, it's less change you can believe in and more what was so bad about the Bush administration. To paraphrase Bette Davis, “Hold On boys - Its Gonna be a Bumpy 4 years". Yep, we've been Punk'd by that lad from Hawaii.

Not it's not. We need to spend our way out of this economic mess. There's no other way out, ozwogg. Deficits right now are GOOD. Seriously. Ask around.

Bob,

I am with you on spending on anything that creates jobs, improves infrastructure, green technology, education, etc. However, I there is one budget that needs to be cut down the PENTAGON. At $600 billion a year this needs to stop. Not pay cuts for troops but maybe we don't need the F-22 raptors, aircraft carriers, the Air Force(should become part of the Army again) and tanks that are useless in urban combat. I have many more. Oh yeah, stopping the $12 billion dollar a month wars might be fiscally responsible.

Who said tanks are useless in urban combat?

You just have to knock down a couple houses and such also as well. Personally, I'd like to arm a couple earth movers for urban warfare, but we'll see.

Try to be a little more position flexible.

PPP,

Tanks-the only "Tank" the US military has is the M1 Abrams, everything else is a fighting vehicle. The M1 uses 17 gallons of diesel fuel on start up, get 5 gallons per mile, and fires a 105MM round that goes throw dozens of buildings. Plus, giving 18 year old kids that much killing power in an urban area is wrong.(if we are fighting the Russians on an open battlefield, OK)

Imagine one of these 60 ton nightmares rolling through your neighborhood. This is an act of terrorism.

"Imagine one of these 60 ton nightmares rolling through your neighborhood"

So long as i'm the one driving it, I've got no problem with it. I've always wanted my very own tank. It would make hunting a lot easier.
