THE FINAL NAIL IN HIS COFFER
Posted by Elvis Dingeldein.
If you need to get your Schadenfreude on this morning, let me direct you to Daniel Gross’s Newsweek article “Won’t Anyone Give Bush a Job?”, which paints a rather dour picture of our gloriously Ex ex-president’s chances at getting Clinton Rich off of his massive failure in the White House. Frankly, I think Son of Sam laws –- which prohibit criminals from profiting from their crimes -- should apply to every single member of the Bush Administration, but maybe Dick “Mineshaft Gap” Cheney will throw George some scraps from his bountiful and Iraq-fancied Halliburton table.
And yet hope springs eternal. If I may channel Ellis Boyd Redding for a moment, I hope Ex-President Bush has a Gus Grissom Retirement, grinning sappily when the fridge is stocked in advance and then tearfully rebuking Laura’s sobbing disgrace over being Mrs. Squirming Hatch-Blower; I hope Ex-President Bush has a David Brent Retirement, mugging in front of half-drunk crowds for cut-rate fees and having absolutely nothing to say about what he’s done or where he’s going; I hope Ex-President Bush has a Daniel Plainview Retirement, holed up inside his own hollow and diminishing wealth, raving about milkshakes and drainage.
I hope.
I hope these things not out of petty vindictiveness or a coldness of heart but because in 2007, while young men and women were still being separated from their limbs by Improvised Explosives and the first cracks were blistering the surface of our Big Fake Economy, Then-President George W. Bush had the unmitigated gall to say this when asked about his post-presidential plans:
"I'll give some speeches, to replenish the ol' coffers," says Mr Bush, who is already estimated to be worth $20 m[illion]. "I don't know what my dad gets - it's more than 50-75 [thousand dollars a speech], and "Clinton's making a lot of money".
This is a man worthy of our contempt and condemnation. A man more concerned about his own “coffers” than the State of the Union he leaves behind. This is a man deserving of the shame in retirement that he never had the humility to feel in office. And anyone that would pay him for his opinion on anything deserves every venal, banal word that trips clumsily from his smirking, ill-fitting mouth.

Investing in military caskets will add to the coffers. He could then take some of his casket earnings and invest them into military hardware to keep the entire portfolio humming along.

Another example of how totally clueless this man is. He thinks someone would actually PAY to hear him talk.

But that was the whole point of his running for office, wasn't it? I mean, the look on his face in that Florida classroom says it all: he was NEVER prepared for the job. To him, it was just an easy paycheck.

I was having this exact conversation the other day. What the hell is this idiot going to do after he leaves office? There is no way in hell anyone would pay to hear him speak. Besides the fact that now he'd have to write speeches himself - you know that's out of the question.
I suppose he could spend the rest of his days clearing brush. Simple work for simple minds. No offense to professional brush clearers.
Maybe the Fox network can start a new reality show: Dancing with the War Criminals. They could make it last for few seasons just with former Bush administration officials alone. But I doubt that Dick Cheney wheeling around the dance floor is a ratings bonanza.

There's no need to worry about Bush...
"The most recent salary increase, to $400,000/year from $200,000/year, took effect when George W. Bush became President. The President also receives a $50,000 non-taxable expense account. The compensation of the President is controlled by law, specifically 3 USC 102 ("Compensation of the President", Title 3, Section 102, of the US Code)."
mmmm...$50,000 non-taxable expense account.

I would pay to see his trial.
I remember him making those statements. As if serving in his capacity of pretend president was costing him money. If you have to replenish the ol coffers, that presupposes that they have been somewhat reduced doesn't it?
I can only hope and pray his blind trust was fully invested in Madoff's Ascot Partners fund.

Wouldn't that be ironic? Bush uses his presidency to make his rich friends richer and after he leaves office loses everything, including the friends he helped. They couldn't be seen associating with a poor fop now.

I can't help but think that he probably got a
large chunk of money out of the tarp bailout fund.
I mean, no one knows where it went or how it was spent. Why else try to push that through with no oversight?
It was the largest heist in the history of the world and it wouldn't surprise me if Bush doesn't have a billion of it in a numbered Swiss bank account.
