The Footnote

by Lee Stranahan

One hundred years now, schoolchildren in the United States will know the names of three Presidents by heart; Washington, Lincoln and Obama.

I say this before we even know exactly how successful President Barack Obama will be. As far as the pop culture part of history is concerned, I don't know if it matters. Obama is iconic in a unique way for a number of reasons including his racial background, his name, his looks, his youth, his campaign visuals and the birth of new media in his time. His record is important to us but his place in history is already assured.

One hundred years from now, hardly anyone will remember George W. Bush. He's a footnote, a failure, a buffoon. The guy before Obama. Whatisname. His record may be akin to Hoover but in the big scheme of things he's Chester Alan Arthur.

i one hundred percent agree with you lee! hopefully his record will be proven in less than four years though!

just a little story...

i was in a book store and this little blond haired kid (around 3 or 4) saw obama on a magazine cover at shouted "look mommy, my bamy...i wuv dat man". and of course i cried right there!

bush has screwed up kids so much so that two little girls have the prejudice (and authority) to get a muslim family removed from a plane! things will change because we are changing them!

I would add FDR to that list, but otherwise, agree that its likely he'll be near the top of the ones history remembers.

I just found Colin Powell to be so awesome this morning saying that America is being reset today and we are getting past the barbarism of our forefathers.
Yes, he'll be in the top three!

Hoover didn't start two wars and leave them unfinished. So lets lay off Hoover. Hell lets lay off Nixon, no one, not ever, not even close is Bush. Truly a national disgrace.

See what stupidity and religion gets ya? you betcha.

At last we have a President who will bring Honor Integrity and RESPECT back to the Whitehouse. GObama!
And as a parting shot to the outgoing criminal, I present two pictures I made, one highlighting the legacy of the thief;

And the other a drawing I made of a scene I'd love to see;

Goodbye and good riddens ya lousy bastard.

Come now, Lee.

Chester Arthur wasn't that bad.

I suggest you correct this article, and slag Franklin Pierce off instead. Now, there was a suitable dunderhead to compare 43 with.
