My First Response To Scarborough
In response to this piece by Joe Scarborough, I give you this:
It’s not even welfare. … If you want pure straight socialism, if you want to buy off people, do that.
You have the federal government writing checks to people for doing nothing. For doing absolutely nothing. This is as close to unprecedented of a total all out socialist bill as I've ever seen.
But I will tell you, I am personally concerned by any politician that talks about the redistribution of wealth- that the Warren court was not radical enough, I'm concerned when somebody tells a guy that wants to start a small business that he should be for spreading the wealth- these are things that cause concerns, not just conservative -- fiscal conservatives.
Maybe Newsweek is right. Maybe socialism is upon us.
And so mentioning that Scarborough is reflecting neo-McCarthyism is somehow "name-calling?"
That's funny.
In my defense, at least I didn't accuse him of Japanese-style sabotage -- you know, like Pearl Harbor. I also didn't accuse him of being dainty, or a Barbarian, or "a dork like Michael Dukakis," or "too stupid to be on TV."
Always happy to take lessons in civilized discourse from Joe Scarborough.

Ok. I'll start the name-calling.
Joe Scarborough is a complete dick.
To paraphrase Zbigniew Brzezinski, Scarborough's understanding of EVERYTHING is breathtakingly superficial.
Posted by: Packy at February 20, 2009 2:01 PM
I am not exactly sure what planet Mr. Cesca has been living on for the past year, but the guest list of "Morning Joe" should be enough to inform anyone with a 3rd grade education that I invite ideological diversity and avoid McCarthy-like inquisitions.
It seems Joe is inferring Bob's only got a third grade education. Isn't that name calling?
So, Joe, invite Bob on your show. Or better yet, sign up here and let the ideological diversity begin.
Posted by: bjritz at February 20, 2009 2:02 PM
The first page of comments I read was full of people falling over themselves to assure Scarborough that there are liberals out there that love him and, please, don't think we're all the same, blah blah blah...
Posted by: Nanotyrannus at February 20, 2009 2:04 PM
Sigh, I'd have alot more respect for old Joe if he didn't squelch liberal voices on his show. The way he bullied Carlos Watson the other day was typical. G-d bless him for knowing that the R's are not perfect, but he needs to own up to the fact that the D's deserve a voice as well. No clue what the bit about Mika and the baby was, guess some people just don't like babies?
And if we're calling character witnesses, I'll see your Arianna Huffington and raise you a Zbigniew Brzezinski.
Posted by: Paddy at February 20, 2009 2:05 PM
I realize that I SHOULD be watching Morning Joe, just to see what sort of excrement is spewing from Scarborough's mouth each and every day.
But my doctor has advised me there will be dire consequences if I do.
Posted by: Packy at February 20, 2009 2:07 PM
Here's my favorite-
Joe-I start each day with "Morning Joe". Best show on MSNBC. It's all downhill after that. Kepp up the good work.
PS - Can you give us a little more Harold Ford Jr?
Harold Ford Jr?!?!

Paddy, you made me laugh!
Posted by: bjritz at February 20, 2009 2:09 PM
He's a fucking baby. A man-child. "Oh boo-hoo! Bob Cesca called me a name! Waaaahhh!"
Just fucking fantastic. He's gotta go play "Tell On Bob" to Arianna and hint around to no longer doing his column for HuffPo. I swear to God, if HuffPo gives Bob shit for this and starts censoring him, I'm gonna be pissed. It's bad enough the only comments the moderators are letting through on the Sacrborough piece are ones that lick his filthy "Proud to be a Republican" ass.

AWESOME! Bob -you're on your way to the Maddow/Olbermann circuit yet! :)

Oh and should we discuss Joe's propensity for verbally smacking down Mika every goddamn day on Morning Joe? Talking over her, interrupting her, chastising her, treating her like a fucking Barbie doll.
Now he's hiding behind Arianna's proverbial skirt. What a misogynistic, cowardly, hypocrite. He wants name calling? I got his name calling right fucking HERE!
Posted by: sammyscooge at February 20, 2009 2:20 PM
Agreed, sammy. His entire post could be summed up as "You hurt my feelings with your name calling and I'm gonna stop posting if people don't lay off."
Fine. Quit posting.
And I'm tired of this constant "is this change we can believe in? We were told things were going to be different..." from the Right. Heads up. You were complete shitbirds for eight years. You have no credibility left so enough with the holding everyone else to account when you could never be bothered to act like adults yourselves.

Bob -
I'm trying to get the attention of the Colbert Report booking person again.
Being attacked by Scarborough HAS to add to your street cred!

FOR THE RECORD:Socialism is the radical transformation of capitalism, using the basis of capitalist infrastructure. It puts an end to exploitation. It requires the leadership of an organized and conscious working class. The first step is the nationalization of big capitalist production. Instruments of production are centralized in State hands, that is, the working class is organized as a ruling class. The rich ruling class believes that nationalization is theft, but historically capitalists got where they were by exploiting millions, robbing peasants of their lands, ruining small business, robbing colonized countries and robbing the National treasury. The Socialist revolution gives back to the people what is rightfully theirs. Nationalization in the hands of the working class creates a new mode of production. Banks, Railways, communications, shipping, large agribusiness and industrial corporations are all nationalized without compensation. Nationalization affects a minority in favor of the vast majority. Small businesses and small farmers are not nationalized. The military is turned into a people's militia under the control of the working class. Socialism cannot be implanted all at once, but some things can be done to benefit the masses right away. The work week is reduced, with annual paid vacations, free hotels and spas, free medical care, physical culture for health, obligatory schools, all free including university, culture by and for the people, equality for women in economic, cultural and political life, child care centers are created to free women of house drudgery, unemployment is done away with, workers cannot be fired, the State pays pensions and disability compensation, there is a distribution of housing so that homelessness is done away with, rent is less than 5% of income, all debts are canceled. As long as heavy industry, transportation, the banks and international commerce are in the hands of the socialist State, capitalist measures can be assumed without fear, because they depend on the State for materials and for markets The workers and poor farmers are natural allies. To this may be added artesans, small businessmen, employees and intellectuals as supporters and part of socialist society.
Capitalism no longer meets the needs of the great majority of people. It has served its purpose, and socialism is the best replacement. Socialism in the US will be built on the traditions, history, culture, and conditions of the US, uniquely American. The goals of a socialist society are: a life free of exploitation, insecurity, poverty, and end to unemployment, hunger and homelessness, and end to racism, national oppression, anti-Semitism, discrimination, prejudice and bigotry. An end to the unequal status of women. Renewal and extension of democracy; an end to Corporate America and private ownership of the wealth of our Nation. Creation of a humane and planned society that will stimulate the human personality, creativity and talent. Affirmative action will be expanded immediately. The contradiction of these goals will be banned by law and be strictly enforced. War propaganda will be outlawed. Some capitalists say these goals are impossible, that humans are inherently selfish and evil. Others argue that these goals can be realized under capitalism. These goals cannot be realized under capitalism, which maximizes profits on the backs of the working class, and this gives rise to class struggle always. Capitalism won't be around forever. Political power will be in the hands of the working people. Socialism nationalizes the plants, the factories, agri- business and other means of production. Corporations and banks, the energy industry and all natural resources come under the ownership of the working class. A socialist government draws up plans for the entire economy. All working people participate, from the shop level on up. These plans work because they harmonize the interests of all, because there are no conflicts arising from exploitation and dog-eat dog competition. Under socialism, productions increases, science and technology are advanced, and the environment is protected. Public services and housing are vastly improved. Homes, schools hospitals recreation facilities will replace crumbling structures . Under economic democracy, people run their own economy, and people's power is established under economic democracy. Trade unions assure a balance between what workers produce and what they receive. They enforce health and safety, prevent speedups, guarantee good transportation, working conditions and plant facilities. Full employment is achieved. Automation in the service of working people will lead to reduced working hours and higher living standards, with no layoffs. Under a planned economy there is no danger of overproduction. People's incomes will increase in line with rising goods and services. Since there is no threat to jobs, technology makes work more interesting and rewarding. When social goals are adopted by the majority, people want to work for those goals. Work is more creative, everyone is a helper instead of a rival. Poverty will be ended with the recovery of the vast resources now wasted in war production, corporate profits and the extravagant lifestyles of the super rich. All education will be tuition-free. All medical care will be unlimited and without charge. With capitalism gone, crime will begin to disappear. It is the profit system that corrupts and breeds crime. Socialism does not equalize wages, although everyone is guaranteed a liveable wage. Socialism nationalizes large-scale production, property and real estate, but it does not socialize personal property or small business where people work for themselves and do not hire others to make a profit. Children will have free child care, nurseries and schools. The best recreational and sports facilities. They will choose their own careers and receive the education and training for it. Upon graduation, they will be guaranteed a job in their area of study. In the political arena, the government will be of, by and for the working people. We have a highly developed industrial society with a trained work force. Free from foreign intervention, socialism will not have to divert human resources to defend itself. There will be no rationale for wars of intervention and world wars. The capitalist ruling class will call out the army and the police and the national guard and create a violent revolution. Workers and their allies have to defend themselves and fight for what is rightfully theirs. Under socialism people will be able to express themselves fully. With competing candidates guided by socialist ideals, the majority will own meeting halls, press, radio and TV. Socialism is the next inevitable step up the ladder of human civilization.

Bob-
Just finished your book, it was great. Now I have another whole list of books and blogs I need to read, ones I read about in your book.
I've always enjoyed your posts on the Huffington Post.

is it name calling to accurately describe someones actions and behaviors as arrogant, boorish, smug and condescending?
"Joe: Because I believe that diversity of thought is a strength.."
unless he disagrees with your diverse thought, then his inner petulant snot comes out.

It's nice to see the hordes of well-intentioned, dutiful Liberals falling over themselves at Huffington Post in response to Scarboroough's postl being all reasonable, like. These people no doubt appreciate the cage this system has built for them. I mean, why not, it's got a flat screen tv or several and plenty of shelf space for all the things they buy. It's an air-conditioned nightmare. You keep shaking hands with that devil, folks.

Scarborough's response should be viewed in the same light as the influx of trolls we get after Bob posts a piece on the HuffPo: Mr. Cesca, you must be doing something right! *high five*

Remember Christia Freedland? When he screamed her down about torture, and when she made a sensible point, he cut her off? Yay Discourse!

Bob, you hurt the poor little girls feelings and now she's crying to her mommy (nothing riles them up more than insulting their manliness).
BTW, Joe's not welcome in Pensacola even though the place is crawling with the nuttiest of wingnuts. Quitting his congressional seat mid-term to ostensibly spend time with his family then immediately starting his blab-fest career left them a sour taste. It also left them with a huge special election bill.

Bob,
You should make him eat his words regarding Alice Rivlin...
He has stated over and over that he would back a plan like she stated she would and that anything she supported he would support.
Well she was on his show yesterday and he tried to get her to say that $300 billion was enough and she wouldn't do it.. she said the President's plan was about right and that he may have to come back for more. It was pretty good. He played the clips before he introduced her of him saying over and over how he would support her plan...Even shows Pat (racist) Buchanan admitting he was sorta wrong about FDR.

For this critter to be whining Socialism after the money Paulson pored down a rat hole is funny!
Making sure those that ripped us off land on their feet is fine with these yahoo's but putting money into the hands of those that will spend it is NOT.
Also, why the god-like worship of "SMALL BUSINESS." How many small business owners pay wages that an employee can actually live on?
Fiscal Conservatism equals "I've got mine," now get the heck out of my eyesight!

So, Bob...should I scrap plans for my next article, DEAR JOE, YOU'RE A COMPLETE TOOL? ALSO, A PINHEAD?
Oh wait, "pinhead" is already taken. Doesn't O'Reilly use that one? Hmmmm...

Elvis,
I think "Complete Smegma" is free for the taking.
Posted by: Packy at February 20, 2009 3:54 PM
Elvis: I think "Uncle Fucker" is free.
Posted by: sammyscooge at February 20, 2009 3:56 PM
I say we don't name-call enough. And I also say Bob should end this little tete-a-tete by challenging Scarborough to a live, televised debate. Bob would eviscerate Joe and then have a snack.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein at February 20, 2009 3:59 PM
I believe "Mika's Merkin" is available as well, Elvis.
Posted by: Kat at February 20, 2009 4:02 PM
Elvis: I think Bob should challenge Joe to an old-fashioned duel. Then we secretly disable Joe's weapon.
Posted by: sammyscooge at February 20, 2009 4:04 PM
Bob - New title of my forthcoming article: DEAR JOE : YES, YOUR PENIS IS BIGGER THAN BOB'S. NOW PLEASE SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH. ALSO: PINHEAD.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein at February 20, 2009 4:08 PM
Sammy-
In a debate with Bob, Joe wouldn't HAVE a weapon, he'd be like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest.
Simply doesn't possess the equipment needed.
Posted by: Packy at February 20, 2009 4:09 PM
Oh so true Packy. Oh so true.
Posted by: sammyscooge at February 20, 2009 4:10 PM
Elvis: How about "DEAR JOE: YES, YOU HIDE YOUR NIPPLE CLAMPS. NOW PLEASE SHUT YOUR FUCKING MOUTH. ALSO: FREAKBOY.
Posted by: sammyscooge at February 20, 2009 4:16 PM
I'd have more sympathy for poor Joe if he wasn't simply toeing the Party Line with this socialism bullshit. He says in his article by way of meager mea culpa that "In 1993, I had great concerns about Bill Clinton's tax increase. I thought it would harm the US economy. I was wrong."; oh, "great concerns," Joe? Is that what you had? Why do I get the feeling that if I had access to The Lexis and The Nexis I'd find you shitting your onesy and screaming about how Clinton's tax increase -- which also passed without a SINGLE REPUBLICAN VOTE IN CONGRESS -- would destroy the country? "Great concerns" my ass.
We accuse you of Neo-McCarthyism, Joe, because McCarthyism was slanderous pinheaded Group-Think with an ideological drumbeat meant to grab power by inciting fear. We're not buying any of that anymore, and we're calling those out that try to sell it. You can be an echo-chamber for the Right Wing agenda if you so choose, but be ready for the inevitable comparisons to another bloviating gasbag when you do.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein at February 20, 2009 4:28 PM
Oh HELL yeah, Elvis!
Posted by: sammyscooge at February 20, 2009 4:33 PM
...of course, in 1993 no one on earth gave two shits about Joe's opinion because back then he was still driving around his Florida neighborhood trying to get people to sign a petition against property tax increases. You go, Joe!
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein at February 20, 2009 4:48 PM
This reply on huffpo cracks me up:
Joe I am a moderate blue dog Democrat. I don't always agree with you but for what it is worth I like you. You seem to be a good joe (get it, I know it's lame). I like Mika too and thought the baby on her lap was cute. It humanized her.
Mika has to hold a baby to be human? WTF?
This whole thing is great. Way to up your street cred Bob!

I look at morning Joe practically every day and can attest to the fact that his arrogance knows no bounds. The best descriptor I can give that describes him to a tee is "a one trick pony." He spouts the GOP talking points virtually every day and feed the sheep like the best of them.
He vacillates between dogging Bush and being the man's champion. He never has a problem presenting a lie as if it was the gospel (CBO report)and now wants to pretend he is above the rest of his party? Please. By who's standards?
I read the comments at the Huffington Post, talk about sympathizers. It was an affront to my intelligence. I refused to even leave a comment.
Joe has been pushing GOP crap since the general election. Now he spends everyday promoting one dumb GOP talking point after the other. My greatest joy is when I see a real liberal take him down. You, Bob, equated Joe to who the hell he really is, just another wanna be Drudge Report.
Posted by: Chamay0 at February 20, 2009 5:05 PM
I am curious, Bob, do you get to write a column on the HuffPo in response to Joe's? Or is this the only outlet you have to refute him?
