I wonder if Andy Card would have a problem with him not wearing a tie?
Me, I just have a problem with him basically anytime he says anything.

For me, watching Morning Joke for a few minutes p**ses me off enough to get on my elliptical and exercise. I'm up to 40 minutes now. Thanks Joe & Mika!

"They pretend to work, we pretend to pay"? What the fuck is he talking about? I suppose pretend workers like fast wood employees or gas station attendants don't count. Is Cramer saying they don't deserve to be helped? These people are completely out of touch.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at February 2, 2009 11:41 AM
That would be fast FOOD employees. There is a direct correlation between my typing accuracy and my increased blood pressure.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at February 2, 2009 11:43 AM
I'm sure fast WOOD employees are also feeling an economic crunch with lower strip club attendance as well.

PLEASE SOMEONE WITH BETTER WRITING SKILLS THAN MYSELF REVISE THIS AN SEND IT TO MORNING JOE!!
I am an American Soldier. I have served my country honorable in Iraq. After surviving both of my "DO NOTHING" deployments I was eligible for the EITC. The reason I was eligible for the EITC was that all my income in a COMBAT ZONE was non taxable income. This is the same for every soldier, sailor, marine and airperson that makes less than $88,000 of base pay in a COMBAT ZONE. I was extremely grateful to receive this tax credit. It felt like my government was honoring my service. So yes, dodging IEDs and small arms fire is "DOING NOTHING" and running you fat mouth for millions of dollars every morning is "WORK".
Posted by: GItheScholar at February 2, 2009 11:56 AM
No revision necessary Joe - just send it.

So tell me what the big deal is again? If they don't pay taxes, what good is a tax break?

P.S.
I love the inference that putting money into smoke-cessation programs is a "waste."
'Cause, you know, lifetime smokers dying of cancer with no insurance is not a burden on our economy at all, or anything. Also, such as.
Posted by: Nanotyrannus at February 2, 2009 12:19 PM
I find that this mostly can be summed up in one way: The Republicans have no ability to think outside the box on anything. This has been seen with the sex education addition in the bill as well. God (or Xenu or no one) forbid they could actually realize what the plan is down the road. If it doesn't say tax cuts then they aren't listening. That's Joe Scarbarough's problem and the entire Republican party's problem.
Posted by: KidDynamo0 at February 2, 2009 12:30 PM
It's all part of their insane "Personal Responsibility" argument, Kid. They know it will help people to fund sex education, stop-smoking programs and the like. The truth is, they don't want to help anyone. Why should I help you stop smoking? You should just do it if you think it's bad for you. Why should I teach you about birth control or provide it? You should have enough self control to not engage in sex outside of marriage. Why should I provide you with health care? You should go get a job (not created by the government) and pay for your own health care.
It's not my fault (even though it is) your life's not better. Why should I help you (with the millions I got in tax cuts because I'm already wealthy by birth and fuck you already! Peasant!)? My life is awesome and insulated from your misery. Please stop being a burden on my awesome Reagan-created low-tax burden rugged individualism...

Hey GI - here's something I came up with combining your post and using some of Bob's info and post. (Hope you don't mind, Bob.) Perhaps we can make a petition out of it and send it to the MSNBC offices?
If anyone else would like to pitch in, please do.
Dear Morning Joe Crew,
I am an American soldier. I have honorably served my country while being deployed to Iraq for two tours of duty. I, and the countless others like me, am eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit because 100% of my income while in a combat zone was non taxable income. The same is true for every soldier, Marine, and airperson that makes less than $88,000 of base pay in a combat zone.
I was extremely grateful to recieve this tax credit. It felt like the government was helping me, honoring me for my service to this nation. But we are not the only "do nothing" workers that can benefit from the EITC.
According to the Brookings Institution, "Together, the EITC and ACTC [Additional Child Tax Credit] provided more than $51 billion to low-income workers in tax year 2005, acting as critical wage supplements for working poor families throughout the country. Proposals to expand and streamline these credits to help more working families across all types of communities—urban, suburban, and rural—deserve consideration from policymakers, practitioners, and researchers."
For two years during the presidential campaigns and primaries, all we heard from mainstream media and cable news were phrases like, "Why can't Obama close the deal with rural Americans?" and "Obama isn't 'one of us'." And now President Obama and the Democrats want to give the working poor a tax break and other forms of relief as outlined in the recovery bill, the very people the cable news pundits claimed with which he was "so out of touch."
In tax year 2005, the greatest number of EITC filers lived in the suburbs of large metropolitan areas. In the South and West, rural taxpayers were most likely to receive the EITC. These are the people most likely to need help, and most likely to spend the money to stimulate the economy. Here's another example: For every dollar invested in Food Stamps, the stimulus return is $1.73, but for every dollar in corporate tax cuts, you get a negative return of $0.30 on the dollar.
But we hear from the informed pundits like Mr. Scarborough and Mr. Buchanan that they would rather spend this money on tax breaks to corporations. Buchanan, point blank, asked John Podesta on the February 2nd edition of Morning Joe why "they can't give the $80 billion to corporate tax cuts."
Mr. Scarborough, you shamelessly categorized tax credits the working poor of this country, those who work the fast food registers or pump gas to try and survive week to week, as receiving money from the government for "doing absolutely nothing." But I suppose in your world, these are the plebians who have no name; they live only to serve you. In your world, while sitting behind your desk making a seven figure income may be "work" to you, dodging improvised explosive devices and small arms fire is far from "do nothing" work for me.
Perhaps thinking before opening your mouth would make for a better show.

I can't watch that tool on the teevee or on this video, same reason I haven't opened an IRA statement in about a year. I can't handle any more depressing crap. But thanks for letting me know it's still not safe to turn on MSNBC, NBC, CBS etc. except when Keith is on in the evening.
Posted by: Likala at February 2, 2009 1:47 PM
Likala - and don't miss Racel Maddow either.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at February 2, 2009 1:48 PM
Goddamn typos! That's Rachel "The Goddess" Maddow.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at February 2, 2009 1:48 PM
GI/Scholar
Please send that to Olbermann's show and/or Rachel Maddow. They might even read it on air.
You might consider adding that in the 1980s, Ronald Reagan supported an increase in the EITC rate from 10 percent to 14 percent.
Posted by: eve at February 2, 2009 1:54 PM
Oh, is it safe to watch Rachel now? She had Pat Buchanan on several times per week at the beginning. Can't abide that "sister Sarah" tool.
Oh and when she nitpicked the background of an Obama video "the flag needed ironing" or something, I had to let her go.
I liked her a lot when she was a guest on Keith's show though.

It strikes me that the people who get the most upset about the possibility of socialism creeping in clearly have no idea what socialism is.

Rachel uses humor incessantly. Sometimes it is subtle.
Pat Buchanan is not one her show very often. Hardly ever really. (Of course, now that I've said this, he'll be on for five minutes every show for the next two weeks. That's why they made the mute button.)

GIJoe,
Carl did a good job for you, I wouldn't change a thing. I'm proud of you. You said what needed to be said.
By the way, is there a more useless job than to be a talking head on television?
That's why I wouldn't push too hard for Bob to be on TV. Do you want him to become like them?
Jellybean Joe Scarborargghhhhh is just pissed because he knows he's never done one thing for his country to be proud of. The guy has a face that is constantly braced against the shit pie about to be thrown at him.

"Rachel uses humor incessantly. Sometimes it is subtle."
So her nitpicking is subtle humor? I guess the subtlety is lost on me. And the incessant humor looks more like trying to be cute to me. I know I'm in the minority and that most here think she's the bomb but I tried and keep trying to watch her hoping she'll settle down to her real self that I liked on Keith's show but alas maybe that was not the real her. She's got the ratings so what do I know?
"Pat Buchanan is not one her show very often. Hardly ever really. (Of course, now that I've said this, he'll be on for five minutes every show for the next two weeks. That's why they made the mute button.)"
No that's why they made the channel change button :)
But thanks for trying to talk me down and for participating we have some nice parting gifts.
Wink..wink..nudge..nudge..say no more

Likala -
Hey I tried. It is not a requirement that you like Rachel. I have never thought much of Buchanan either, but he has surprised me several times on MSNBC by saying things I agree with. My brain almost locked up from the cognitive dissonance.
Thanks for recognizing my nym origins. I'm a big fan. I have a dog named Monty and a cat named Python.
My full nym name is Silly Ratfaced Git.
