The Limitless Depth of Bitter Losers

Posted by JumpyPants

Former UN Ambassador/UN Hater John Bolton yesterday:

"The fact is on foreign policy I don't think President Obama thinks it's a priority," said Bolton. "He said during the campaign he thought Iran was a tiny threat. Tiny, tiny depending on how many nuclear weapons they are ultimately able to deliver on target. Its, uh, its tiny compared to the Soviet Union, but is the loss of one American city" – here Bolton shrugged his shoulders impishly – "pick one at random – Chicago – is that a tiny threat?"

The roomful of Republicans at Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) thought the idea of nuking the President's hometown, city to over 9.5 million Americans was HILARIOUS. According to Mother Jones:

The room erupted in laughter and applause.

When trying to discuss the serious threat of nuclear weapons, Mr. Bolton, let me give you some tips:

1. Don't joke about blowing up over 9.5 million Americans
2. Don't blatantly reveal how bitter you are that you and your party are gigantic losers in the 2008 election
3. Support the President and his plan to secure all loose nukes and craft new global legislation to stop the production of nukes
4. Lance that horrible giant hairy mole on your upper lip

If a Democrat made that statement and people laughed, beck, hannity and o'reilly would be screaming about liberal democrats.

Why can republicans think something so horrific is funny?

Someone posted in the comments on MoJones this is a dangerous group.. Do people not realize who CPAC is.. or was he really being serious.

I agree with everything except #3. You can draft all the global legislation you want. If a nation wants to build a nuke, there is nothing, absolutely nothing, we can do to stop them. North Korea should have taught us that. Gun laws should have taught us that. Criminals don't obey the law. Nations don't obey global laws when their desires dictate otherwise.

At CPAC? Please - we need to call this what it is - the Republican Convention. That is more apparent since even the head of the RNC wants to punish members that don't prescribe to the full beliefs of CPAC.

:D

PPP, it's not easy to make a nuke. To paraphrase Marty McFly, "You don't just walk into a store and buy plutonium." If we can secure and track the materials needed, it can make it much tougher.

Josh Marshall has a live feed of this event. I had forgotten what a gynormous tool this asshat is!

I'm not usually shallow about people's appearances, but do the Boltens, Rumsfelds and Roves of the world just revel in their hideous looks? I really think they try their damndest to come as much across as a James Bond villain as possible. Sometimes I wonder if their glasses are just plain frames with no prescription. Seriously, what's with Bolten's mustache? We're not in the 70s anymore.

Posted by: Jeff at February 26, 2009 3:21 PM

PPP, which country, again, has the most nukes? Remind me.

Posted by: JumpyPants at February 26, 2009 3:21 PM

Jumpypants,

I fail to see why you asked me that question. Care to explain?

Posted by: politicalpartypooper at February 26, 2009 3:26 PM

Sure, PPP! Because you said "Criminals don't obey the law. Nations don't obey global laws when their desires dictate otherwise." And that made me think that, golly, the US has an awful lot of nukes, so it must make it really hard for us to lecture people on not building nukes when we've built more than practically anyone, and we still have them. It's like me telling you not to punch other kids as I punch you in the teeth and kick you in the balls.

Posted by: JumpyPants at February 26, 2009 3:29 PM

I agree with PPP on this one. I have never been able to figure out how the U.S. and other Western powers get to dictate who gets what. I mean, what if the Soviets had beaten us to the bomb, given it to its allies and satellites, and then said "okay, no more bombs." I mean, the U.S. response would have been, "yeah, right."

You can encourage countries to not get nuclear capabilities through diplomacy, carrots/sticks, sanctions, etc...but if they want one, they're going to get one.

I cant wait for the big Liberal Media Headline reading "Conservatives joke about nuking Chicago" . I aint holding my breath.

Posted by: lib4 at February 26, 2009 3:35 PM

That being said, I agree with the others, as well as everyone who says Bolton is an ass --- (fill in the rest with your choice of nouns.)

Posted by: trustno1 at February 26, 2009 3:37 PM

Well Jumpy, that's food for thought, and I agree with you. I just wanted to be certain of what you were saying. Thanks.

Posted by: politicalpartypooper at February 26, 2009 3:49 PM

Hey all.. gonna be at a friends house tonight.. won't be on.. will see you tomorrow .. hold down the fort.. Don't let Bolton blow up anything while I am gone.. please.

Posted by: Annette at February 26, 2009 3:58 PM

Absolutely, PPP, and apologies for being somewhat obtuse. I think that we really need to lead by example and start getting rid of our nukes. We need to be the change we wish to see. And while we're at it, we need to start taking a scalpel to gun laws. There's absolutely no reason a hunter needs a fully automatic handgun or an AK-47. Did you see that the Mexican cartel war is being supplied largely with guns like the AK-47 bought at gun shops in the USA? The most despicable people on earth are those who profit from war.

The current ideology of the Republican party is just what breeds the Timothy McVeigh's and Terry Nichols' in our culture today!

I've yet to see any rational discussion about Iran out of anyone. Fear-mongering does not qualify as rational discussion.

The only reason people are afraid of Iran posessing a nuclear weapon is because it gives them a bigger bargaining chip in the scheme of things. Iran would never use a nuke on one of their neighbors, but they might talk about using it just to get concessions and attention. Why woudlnt they actually use one? Simple... they too would be annihilated. Its the main reason the US and USSR never went to war. Its called mutually assured destruction.

One day, decades from now, nuclear weapons will be as common as smart bombs. Making a boogey man out of Iran is pointless. If we want to stop this from happening, we have to do a lot more than just bully Iran around.

Just my opinion.

Oh and I forgot to add...

Yes, Bolton is an asshat.
