Morning Joe Has Stupid Graphs

Morning Joe has been displaying the DJIA graph since election day as a way of blaming the president for the down market. Scarborough to Stretch at around 8:25 a.m. EST:

SCARBOROUGH: We've been showing graphics of the Dow Jones just collapsing since Barack Obama's election.

Yeah? So? Let's pull wide and take a look at the market since its high water mark in September of 2007:

President Obama's light blue slice of the stock market is so narrow in relation to the previous (Republican) president that I couldn't even fit the name "Obama" inside of the light blue area on the right. I was able to get O-B-A and half of an M.

Of course that's kind of a joke, but it proves a point. If we're going to blame the current president and his party for that little slice of blue, then we have to blame the previous president and his party for that gigantic block of red.

The difference, however, is that if the market has been sliding downhill for 18 months or so, how can the guy on that small sliver of blue on the right be expected to stop the slide -- in a fraction of the time?

Or, as we often joke here: Why hasn't Obama fixed the economy yet?

Adding... It looks like Joe Scarborough and Michelle Malkin are delivering the same ridiculous and easily-debunked talking points today.
