Bob, I like the new design, the blue is very soothing.
Posted by: thruwithbuzz at March 24, 2009 6:45 PM
whoa! who's the man? bob's the man! high five and hells yeah on the blue! it's not the heavenly hue displayed on inauguration day, but maybe my color spectrum had tinted awesome from my obama high. now watch everyone hate it...(giggles)
i did a little cut and paste job to reiterate my affection for the bob and the blue! ;) thankies...
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 6:47 PM
Love the "in your face" Uncle Sam and the continuation of the sky in the header. As Michele Bachmann would say, "You be da man! You be da man!"
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 6:58 PM
Looks red to me.
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 6:59 PM
Really, Skiba? The background behind the flag on the right looks red on your screen?
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 7:01 PM
Apparently I missed the Awesome Blue. Dammit, Gyps. Why do you always hog the good stuff???
And I do like the scowlier Uncle Sam. He looks like he's gonna kick some Glenn Beck ass.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 7:01 PM
I'm still getting red-brown as well.
Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 24, 2009 7:02 PM
Oh Emm Gee!! I see blue!!!
This is one good trip. I wonder if I'll see Jackie O like I did on my last one.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 7:03 PM
I always miss the blue.
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 7:04 PM
Yeah, Carl, still red :(
(Not that I don't like it...I just feel so left out! Ha.)
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 7:05 PM
Now it's blue! Yay!
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 7:06 PM
How'd you fix it, Skeebs? Refresh?
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 7:06 PM
Yep. Turned blue on the 3rd refresh.
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 7:08 PM
Pat Buchanan is scared of brown people.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 7:08 PM
I'd pay to see Uncle Sam kick Glenn Beck's ass.
Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 24, 2009 7:09 PM
Looks good. Fresh.
Posted by: nelsonzee at March 24, 2009 7:14 PM
Diggin' hard on the Blue.
And no, my username is not honoring Bob's very wise decision to change the color......he did it to honor ME!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)
Posted by: BlueFan at March 24, 2009 7:18 PM
Blue is soothing and we all need to be soothed these days.
Posted by: thespacecowboy at March 24, 2009 7:22 PM
Blue? I only see blue just after hitting refresh, while it's doing it, then back to yellow/white. I do see the new clouds across the top. Periwinkle blue only when I hit the button. How odd.
Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 24, 2009 7:26 PM
I'd pay to see ANYONE kick Glenn Beck's ass..honestly...and O'Reilly's
oooo....Wingnuttia Cage Match for Nutjob Supreme
Posted by: Nicki at March 24, 2009 7:29 PM
Nicki, I promise to kick both their asses and blame it on PTSD when my court date comes.
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 7:35 PM
bob, my next background suggestion...work a native american in! hehe... i'll also accept my name! ;)
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 7:35 PM
So which do you think is worse? Being told you look like Ben Franklin? Or being called a dried up old bird?
I really need another job....
Posted by: ceu at March 24, 2009 7:38 PM
Good Kos piece, Carl. Now pass that Awesome Blue all the way around the room. Chris, are you OK?
Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 24, 2009 7:40 PM
Chris, it would be worse if you didn't punch that motherfucker. And tell them that you doubt they've ever seen any type of picture of Ben Franklin.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 7:43 PM
yeah, I'm alright. I'm almost used to it now... and really, I look nothing like Ben Franklin.
Posted by: ceu at March 24, 2009 7:44 PM
I always thought you looked like Rahm Emanuel blowing a raspberry.
Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 24, 2009 7:48 PM
My eyes!!!!!!!! My eyes!!!!!!!!
I just saw a car with a "Palin 2012" sticker on it!!!! Aaaaaggggghhhhhhh!
Ain't no amount of beer 'nuff to medicate me.....
Posted by: BlueFan at March 24, 2009 7:48 PM
Maybe Atretha Franklin?
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 7:49 PM
chris, you should have said..."you look like someones ass that's about to get kicked!" ;)
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 7:49 PM
Ain't no vodka low enough?
Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 24, 2009 7:50 PM
Ceu:
Ever the Ben Franklin episode of the Office?
Posted by: Mike H. at March 24, 2009 7:51 PM
Time Warner cable os fucking with me. Now is the time they choose to update the cable box software?! It better be done in 8 minutes or I'm going to blow a gasket Glenn Beck style!
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 7:52 PM
The doors are open!
Posted by: bjritz at March 24, 2009 7:59 PM
I did, Mike, yes :)
Can't punch him or call him an ass. he owns the company...
I think of my time there as penance for...everything I've ever done that made anyone else uncomfortable.
Posted by: ceu at March 24, 2009 8:00 PM
i'm already pissed at tweet! stating obama is over exposed because he has had less viewers that clinton and bush! you have to factor in the internet!!! people can now watch it at their leisure!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:01 PM
No silver bullets? Why does the President hate the Lone Ranger?
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:03 PM
Interesting. No side teleprompters, just one in front.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:04 PM
"Bubble and Bust" - I am so opening a Strip Club under that name.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:04 PM
I don't think you can say "at the end of the day" and "in the long run" in the same sentence. Those sort of cancel each other out.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:05 PM
he mentions energy and education...I hope healthcare has not gotten the shaft of his priorities....hmmm, bonuses are a symptom...
Posted by: enigma4ever at March 24, 2009 8:06 PM
too late elvis! i used to drive past a car wash/strip club with that name!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:07 PM
Aw, fuck. I can't demonize profit anymore? That sucks. Profit is so, so demonizable.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:07 PM
" a better day will come " and then off to questions...wow, that was a really short speech..I thought there was going to be more details or bulk to this speech...I am confused...
Posted by: enigma4ever at March 24, 2009 8:08 PM
Get a haircut, Jennifer Loven.
Heh. "Loven."
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:08 PM
Pay attention, Enigma. This is a Press Conference, not a speech. Try to keep up.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:09 PM
why isn't his flag pin bigger?! does he hate america?!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:10 PM
Dear Associated Press: Try not to sound so much like a fucking GOP Talking Point Memo in your next question. We're going to get us some Big Government now, so suck it.
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:11 PM
G'vmnt takes over chicken farms if there are too many illegals, why not insurance cos?

WHAT. THE. FUCK. more sacrifice?! do you want my soul?!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:12 PM
permaCHUB!
If my president gives me a hard-on because of his awesomeness, do we have to limit him to only two terms?
Rescind the 22th Amendment!
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 8:12 PM
Heh. He said "stiff."
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:12 PM

He looks like my uncle Steve.
*cries*

The goatee is the only thing keeping him on TV. Otherwise, they'll call him "Chuckie the Chin."
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:13 PM
Christ this guy can fucking riff on anything. Someone's been doing his hoooome-wooork!
Posted by: Elvis the Dingeldein™ at March 24, 2009 8:14 PM

It is *so* weird to find one's President hot. Pinch me.
Posted by: jane at March 24, 2009 8:16 PM
Major Garrett looks like he wants to punch Obama for being so goddamn good at everything. How does FOX spin this?
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 8:16 PM
*slaps jane's ass*
Oh...you said pinch?
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 8:17 PM

Posted by: bjritz at March 24, 2009 8:18 PM
That's okay, Joe. Now, doggie style, so we can *both* watch Obama. Heh.
Posted by: jane at March 24, 2009 8:18 PM
Shorter Obama: Put that shit it the budget motherfuckers. Don't make me stick you.

Watching President Obama and um... Somebody get me a beer so I can die a happy man.

Shorter Obama: Chip, get your fucking numbers right, douche. By the way, the Republicans have shit. Show me the money, bitches.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:23 PM
I'm sorry, but is My President speaking without using a teleprompter right now? You know, answering questions off the top of his very smart head? I mean, because it seems to me that he is answering a reporter's question without using a teleprompter. But I could be wrong. Because some motherfucker said that My President could only speak using a teleprompter.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 8:25 PM
Can any of you imagine this man debating that dimwit Palin?
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 8:25 PM
She said control spillover.
Posted by: bjritz at March 24, 2009 8:26 PM
Yes, and I just came, Joe. What a glorious mental image.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 8:26 PM
Really, thanks, Carlos. Though I left it in the green room at the shop tonight, goddamnit. *sigh* Thought I might play it at work. AHAHA "play" at "work" that's so sad cause I can't right now.
Posted by: jane at March 24, 2009 8:27 PM
WOOOHOOO!!! Even as the critics criticize, they don't have an alternative budget, because they know this shit is fucked up and if they did show us a budget, we could punch holes in it just as effectively! So suck it.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:27 PM
oh jesus did you hear that spanish pronunciation?! yum!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:27 PM

Wassamatta, Beej, don't you Support Our Troops? Best way to support them is by saving money cutting benefits and health care. Or so I hear.

Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 8:39 PM
What the fuck is with all this global currency talk? That's the second time I heard that today. Must be Glenn Beck osmosis.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:40 PM
Hi everyone! Signing in as requested [by GItheJ ;-)]so that I can do a quick perusal of today's entries. Haven't read anything yet, just advertising my presence before heading to the top of the board.
Posted by: vyccan at March 24, 2009 8:43 PM
did he say 1 in 50 are homeless?! that can't be right! right?!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:44 PM
Actually, I think the Russians floated the idea about a global currency before the Chinese. I've read a few articles over the past month about noise within the Russian political system and a global currency. Pooty-Poot still doesn't really like us.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 8:45 PM
Yes, I like this new design. The yellow, lemon or whatever seems to have a calming effect on me. I wonder if it will be calming to others when the rabble rousers come to blogtown?
Posted by: vyccan at March 24, 2009 8:46 PM
Gypsy, I've heard that number recently. Staggering.
Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 24, 2009 8:46 PM
Gyps, I'm with you on the mulligan. Only we'll call it a jubilee, because that's the book in the Bible where they forgive dates. The Republicans can't complain if you name it after something in the Bible, right?
Posted by: ElMystico at March 24, 2009 8:47 PM
only a white person would ask such a question on race! "ummm....what is it like to have two heads mr president?!" WTF?!
Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:48 PM
If you've ever seen Zeitgeist, they talk about a global currency in the third part of the movie that's pretty interesting. Tin foil hat stuff, but interesting.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:48 PM
this guy is awesome. I am confident he will get us through this.
Posted by: mattpddm03 at March 24, 2009 8:48 PM
Hello Vyccan! Two nights in a row? Be careful, you're on the verge of becoming a regular! And then GI will start saying vulgar things about your body parts.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 8:50 PM
Seriously. How can anyone not like this guy?
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 8:50 PM

What about the embryos that will never become a baby Mr. President?
GO FUCK YOURSELF!!!!
I am a smoker and want new lungs when I am 50. If you want to clone my children to do it. You have my permission.
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 8:50 PM
1 in 50 sounds right. They were talking over 200,000 veterans that are permanently homeless with over 300,000 when the transiently homeless are added.
Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 24, 2009 8:50 PM
Seriously. How can anyone not like this guy?
Sadly, because he's black.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 8:51 PM
I thought the same thing, Gyps. And My President handled it masterfully. Wonderful answer to a dumbass question.
Posted by: Kat at March 24, 2009 8:51 PM
>>>I am a smoker and want new lungs when I am 50. If you want to clone my children to do it. You have my permission.
Agreed! New lungs for everyone!
And gyps- be careful reading the Book of Jubilees...it'll turn you commie!
Posted by: ElMystico at March 24, 2009 8:51 PM

Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 8:55 PM

Posted by: gypsy at March 24, 2009 8:56 PM
It's very sad, Carl.
Disagreeing is one thing. Being hateful towards him is another.
I don't agree with every single thing, but he really is one of the most amazing people I've ever know of.
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 8:57 PM
Did you know that Sean Hannity has a "Conservative Manifesto"?
I am not an expert here but if you scream 24 hours a day about Obama being a communist than why in the Christ did you name your bible the manifesto?

Joe, I had the extreme boredom of being stuck in a car for several hours and listened to a bit of Hannity.
"Conservative Underground!" says he. I say, we need to start a Conservative Underground News Tips hotline.
Posted by: jane at March 24, 2009 9:06 PM
Jesus H Christ Obama is fvcking boring. Give the dope his teleprompters back!!
Posted by: TruthSerum at March 24, 2009 9:06 PM
Regarding news conference-
Why is there always so much talk about cutting costs in Medicaid (Health program for low income & poor) and Medicare (seniors). To me, those are two of the most essential areas where government should be the most diligent in taking care of people. This is I believe, the third time since election that I've heard how much we're having to spend on these programs, and how we've got to cut. I'm bothered by this...anyone else bothered, or is it just me?
Posted by: AZDem at March 24, 2009 9:08 PM
Ha! Wrong day to try and stir up the shit, Truthy. You can't STAND the fact that this guy is one smart cookie. What a breath of fresh air after eight years of a mouth breathing, knuckle dragger.
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 9:09 PM
ooh, jane, that was nasty.
truth, why must you harsh our collective buzz?
Posted by: fe at March 24, 2009 9:10 PM
fe - because Truthy is a douchebag. Need you ask?
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 9:11 PM
Hmmm....O-Blame-A's biggest supporters...Stepehen Colbert, college hack actor and stand up comic,Jonathan Stuart Leibowitz, known to yoy Tards as Jon Stewart...another stand up comic, and Dave Letterman...woooo!!!! another stalwart of intelligentsia...a former weatherman turned comic.
Ha Ha !!!!
Posted by: Boris at March 24, 2009 9:11 PM
Fe, I'm afraid the answer to "why" is sociopathy. I doubt anyone would pay for such crappy work, in this economy.
Posted by: jane at March 24, 2009 9:11 PM
I take that back re:sociopathy. It's more likely narcissism.
Posted by: jane at March 24, 2009 9:12 PM
You know, it's quite an experience to 'listen' to the president's speech through your voices on the blog! I came home too late to tune in, but just from reading your comments I could picture him. I particularly liked this part:
"It took a couple of days because I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak."
From which I inferred that some lunkhead asked why he hadn't responded or spouted off on some question or issue on their timeline. Way to go Prez O!
I've gone to hunt out the replay of his address somewhere.
Posted by: vyccan at March 24, 2009 9:12 PM
You seem real intelligent, Boris.
Posted by: idreamofskiba at March 24, 2009 9:13 PM
Jesus H Christ Obama is fvcking boring.
What did you expect, Truthy, a little song and dance?
Posted by: Broadway Carl at March 24, 2009 9:13 PM
Compare him to Bill Clinton you idiot. GWB is a product of Texas, a reason that it shold secede from the Union.
Posted by: TruthSerum at March 24, 2009 9:13 PM
TRUTH,
Obama, not his teleprompter, taught me two things tonight. One, there isn't a government regulatory agency for the monopolies(AIG,CITI,BOA). Two, rich people get high tax deductions when they give to the church(I am sure the Pope/Rick Warren just used the Lord's name in vein).
Now, go away before you kill Jane's buzz/girl happy moment.
Posted by: GItheJOE at March 24, 2009 9:15 PM
Hey Broadway...is your Mom getting you new knee pads for Easter?
Posted by: TruthSerum at March 24, 2009 9:15 PM
Compare him to Bill Clinton you idiot.
File that one away, Jane.

From which I inferred that some lunkhead asked why he hadn't responded or spouted off on some question or issue on their timeline. Way to go Prez O!
That's exactly right, vyccan. CNN's Ed Henry asked why it took a few days to hear the outrage from Obama after finding out about the AIG bonuses. I'm sure you'll see it on YouTube in seconds.

Lobbyists in his cabinet, tax evaders in his office, and expanding a GD war in Afghanistan.
More hyperbole and more BS.Obama is responsible for the AIG mess.
Health care reform will be the same half assed affair, crumbling to the will of insurance companies.

I really wanted Obama to evoke radical change. I wanted a revolution from within the federal government. I wanted a president who put policy and the good of our nation over popularity ratings, paybacks to supporters, and the desire to get re-elected.
Good Night !

If you want entertainment, then listen to or watch Rush, Sean, Bill'O, or Glenn. They live in an alternate universe where everyone is stupid except them. They really believe that they are the sharpest knives in the drawer.
In the real world they are knaves that are not ver sharp, but very entertaining in their delusions of grandiour.

Broadway C, I really do love the way the President can slap back without seeming vindictive. The other side sure could learn a lot from his delivery if they would only shut up long enough to listen, look and learn! Every time I watch or listen to President Obama he reinforces my belief that HE BELIEVES the populace has a brain. I can't stand when politicians address their constituents like we are too dumb to detect insincerity, or too dumb to understand unless they speak in sound bytes.
Mature 'politi-speak'[teleprompter or no teleprompter] rocks in my opinion! Keep it up Prez O.

Rachel mentioned Glass Stegall, and the Gramm, whoever, whoeverelse acts last week. Last Thursday I think.
Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 24, 2009 11:02 PM
Chris -
So that's CT, MA, and VT so far?
Review (correct me if I get anything wrong.)
MA passes law allowing same sex marriage.
CT tried to pass a law banning same sex marriage and the CT Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional. So same sex marriages are now legal in CT. (The religious jerks should not have tried to shut it down. Serves them right.)
VT passes law allowing same sex marriage.
Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 24, 2009 11:08 PM
SillyGit, I didn't see that show, but I remembered Glass Stegall and all that crap Saturday. Give me a little credit. I work in finance.
Also, time for Ed Henry to take a long walk on a short pier.
Posted by: AdyLeigh at March 24, 2009 11:08 PM
no, Git, not quite right
MA Supreme Court decision allowed for gay marriage.
CT legislature voted to allow civil unions. Challenged in court that civil unions are not the same as marriage - equal protection thing (IIRC) and the challenge succeeded. Blumenthal & Rell both said they would not fight the decision. Rell knew the votes weren't there to overturn it. There was never a serious attempt to ban gay marriage here, although I'm sure the people who are against it were quite serious.
VT had a civil union act - I think they were first - and now is moving toward a same-sex marriage law. The Senate was gonna be the hurdle, and it passed there something like 26-4. It is predicted to sail thru the House.

Thank you Chris. I knew that the MA and CT decisions were court rulings, but I could not remember the circumstances that caused them.
I would not have expected Blumenthal or Rell to challenge. Rell is not a right wing ideologue. I don't much care for republicans, but she's never done anything to annoy me. She appears to be quite competent.
Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 24, 2009 11:34 PM
ceu, I was talking specifically about the original Glass Stegall Act on Saturday...
"In 1933, in the wake of the 1929 stock market crash and during a nationwide commercial bank failure and the Great Depression, two members of Congress put their names on what is known today as the Glass-Steagall Act (GSA). This act separated investment and commercial banking activities. At the time, "improper banking activity", or what was considered overzealous commercial bank involvement in stock market investment, was deemed the main culprit of the financial crash. According to that reasoning, commercial banks took on too much risk with depositors' money. Additional and sometimes non-related explanations for the Great Depression evolved over the years, and many questioned whether the GSA hindered the establishment of financial services firms that can equally compete against each other. We will take a look at why the GSA was established and what led to its final repeal in 1999."
http://www.investopedia.com/articles/03/071603.asp
"Consequently, to the delight of many in the banking industry (not everyone, however, was happy), in November of 1999 Congress repealed the GSA with the establishment of the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, which eliminated the GSA restrictions against affiliations between commercial and investment banks. Furthermore, the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act allows banking institutions to provide a broader range of services, including underwriting and other dealing activities
Posted by: AdyLeigh at March 24, 2009 11:38 PM
Gramm-Leach-Bliley should have been Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe so that I could remember it. Truth in naming.
I've been remembering it as Gramm and the other two clowns.
