Frank Schaeffer:

"You know those loud mouthed drunks on the subway? The republican party is like that one ass up front that's trying to molest all of the women."

I'm speechless. That's just Goddamned Awesome.

The story's at TPC.

I think we need to jazz it up and say welcome home Packy, so's he doesn't succomb to the jet lag.

WOOO Packy!

Posted by: jane at March 8, 2009 8:00 PM

Since Schaeffer is a reformed religious zealot, I thought this was appropriate re the GOP's behavior of late.

Posted by: Packy at March 8, 2009 8:04 PM

Adding: Thanks, Teh Jane!

I would just like to say that because of Cesca's awesome bloggy comment section, I now have more followers on Twitter... but that's not the important part.

The important part is that I like them.

Because, really, why do I care about someone doing their laundry? Those are the ones that don't make me get a chill up my leg.

So. Middle Cyclone by Neko Case...Great album, or the greatest album?

Posted by: ElMystico at March 8, 2009 8:17 PM

Hey Packy. Welcome back. How was the Guiness/Murphy's/Beamish?

Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 8, 2009 8:25 PM

The Schaeffer story is also at TPC. Shhh.

It was ALL good, Git. It tastes better there. I think it's the surroundings, though.

Posted by: Packy at March 8, 2009 8:52 PM

Sorry, Silly, I totally misread that. You linked to us, and I re-linked. Gaa!

That one daylight savings hour that got cut? It apparently fried what's left of my brain.

Posted by: GottaLaff at March 8, 2009 8:58 PM

Packy, did you do the Guiness Factory/Cult HQ tour? It's way overpriced (esp for non-students) but the included pint is the best Guiness you'll ever taste. Plus you get to drink it while you enjoy the view through the James Joyce-inscribed panoramic windows.

Posted by: ElMystico at March 8, 2009 9:02 PM

No harm no foul GottaLaff. You've had a busy day with inadequate sleep. You and Paddy do an excellent job over there. Thank you both.

Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 8, 2009 9:12 PM

Thanks for understanding, Silly. You're a doll. And thank you for the sweet words, too. That woke me up... temporarily. : )

Posted by: GottaLaff at March 8, 2009 9:20 PM

Oh yes, El.
Did that with my son, and just about fell over at the price. Went through there about 3 years ago, and it was a lot less expensive than now.
$15 Euro is a lot to pay for a pint, even with the view!
The Jameson distillery is a good tour, too. And a glass of Jameson's at the end (but only a 13 Euro glass).

Posted by: Packy at March 8, 2009 9:22 PM

Laffy, you have another follower.

Packy, I'm glad you are safely home. Now can you send me? I'll be nice to your friends and relatives. And I can stick Jane in my bag since she missed the flight.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 8, 2009 9:42 PM

Woohoo Conchords time!

ElMystico, present.

Posted by: ElMystico at March 8, 2009 9:56 PM

"Rollins: “Republicans Are Not Relevant”
Thu Mar 5, 2009 at 05:41 pm By jamie

Ed Rollins, former political director for Reagan and strategist for Huckabee, cuts through the BS and delivers some strong words for his party:

The battle to be the "de facto leader" of this party is akin to the question of who wants to steer the Titanic after it hit the iceberg. Who represents the party or its values is not relevant when only 26 percent of voters have a positive impression of the party at all and only 7 percent very positive, according to the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News survey.

The Democratic Party is the reverse, with 49 percent positive. When 60 percent of the country approves of the job President Obama is doing, every Republican leader is going backward.

Republicans are not relevant. We just lost two back-to-back elections (2006 and 2008), and obviously, what we are selling, the voters aren't buying. In the midst of the most severe economic crisis in my lifetime, we have a president who is taking the country on a dramatic sea change. This is what he said he would do and he is doing it. And where are Republicans? Right now we don't have the alternative ideas, a message or, more important, the messenger.

I really like the Titanic reference there."
There's more

ty eric.

Rollins gets it. I'm not holding my breath for Boner, Cantor, and the rest of the Obstructionists to catch the clue train. They seem determined to ride their one trick pony (tax cuts for corporations and Bernie Madoff) into the sunset.

I have to stop working on weekends--which means I'll actually have to start working during the week.

SillyGit, where in the hell is everyone?

Frank Schaeffer:

"You know those loud mouthed drunks on the subway? The republican party is like that one ass up front that's trying to molest all of the women."

I love it so much when Frank Schaeffer goes off! I had to grow up listening to his completely unhinged, batshit crazy father b/c my mother loves me just that much, so everytime he goes off on a rant I e-mail it to her. Then I feel like a new woman. I don't care whether she reads it or not. It doesn't matter on single bit.

Hey, where is everyone?

Posted by: AdyLeigh at March 8, 2009 11:12 PM

I meant, "ONE single bit..."

Posted by: AdyLeigh at March 8, 2009 11:15 PM

completely off topic, but I need to vent

I am trying to move away from Utah, back to California, where both my wife and I have incredible job offers waiting for us.

Unfortunately, I chose (as a licensed contractor) to take on a large remodel of a restaurant/nightclub from July until December of last year. I have yet to be paid for that labor.

I averaged an income of roughly $5000-$6000/month leading up to that job, but completely shut down my business to accomodate this large project.

Now, I am ready to move, and they are telling me to pound sand. They now remind me that we didnt ever sign a contract, yadayada. OH DID I MENTION MY OWN FATHER IS ONE OF THE PARTNERS?

So now, while this truckstop MoMo shithole town withers and dies (and blames it all on the Muslim president), I cannot escape because I cant even scratch together my 1st&Last month for when I touch down in San Diego.

I'm at the end of my rope. All I have ever done is get up and go to work every single day and at the same time try to help others.

This economy is a bitch and I've found myself barely hangin on to the hind teet.

I'm not a religious man, but I've never denied the power of positive thinking. If you feel the same way, send some good vibes my way, I'm gettin desperate.

Posted by: JackDanieL at March 8, 2009 11:46 PM

'tis a quiet night Ady. I'm watching The Pianist on IFC.

I've been reading Frank's articles at Huffington Post and I think they are rather good. They are certainly worth the time to read. They aren't as good as Bob's, but Bob has the advantage of having basically the same political position as myself. Frank has to work pretty hard to get me to read his stuff. He's doing OK.

Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 8, 2009 11:51 PM

Jack -

Shit. That sucks.

With or without a written contract, an implied contract exists. I have no license to practice law in any state, particularly not Utah. I have no idea what Utah notions of implied contracts are. There are other terms for implied contracts but IANAL and don't remember them all.

I think you should speak to an attorney. You can probably get one to speak to you for an hour at a reduced rate to advise you what your options are.

My thoughts are with you and I'll try to steer positive waves in your direction. Good luck.

Posted by: SillyRatfacedGit at March 9, 2009 12:08 AM

Jack,

You need to engage the services of a competent attorney. Just because a contract is verbal doesn't necessarily make less binding.

Sue their crooked asses off. Even if you get no money, you can get a judgement, which can fuck up their pathetic lives.

If htey don't pay you, interest can keep building on the judgement.

Then, when they try to borrow money for anything in the future, that judgement will show up.

Any bank or investor will want that judgement satisfied, or they won't lend, because it places a risk on THEIR money.

Posted by: Packy at March 9, 2009 12:10 AM

goof thoughts to you Jack....good vibes and all other good things out there to you.

I understand the hanging by the teeth.

On a personal note, I would also appreciate all good thoughts for my father. He has taken a turn for the worse, so please send him whatever you can via positivity.

goodnight everyone and thank you

Posted by: veralynn at March 9, 2009 12:13 AM

Jeez, Vera. I'm sorry to hear that.
Good thoughts to you, too.

Posted by: Packy at March 9, 2009 12:18 AM

What, did everybody in America get a life? I'm last! (sound of wind blowing through empty city)

Posted by: emsique at March 9, 2009 7:35 AM

Jack, Vera: throwing good vibes your way(s). Jack, sounds like Packy knows what he's talking about. And screw 'em even more if they are family screwing you. No excuse for that but sorry.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at March 9, 2009 7:56 AM

I am just exhausted, in every sense of the word...
