$4 Trillion
That's approximately how much the Republican tax cut for the wealthiest tax bracket will cost. Reducing the top bracket from 35 to 25 percent will cost an estimated $4 trillion.
They also want to privatize Medicare, by the way. Yes, because insurance companies are a safe bet. They don't bilk consumers or withhold coverage, do they?
They also want to freeze non-defense discretionary spending. In the middle of a deep recession. If stimulus spending helps the economy, what, I wonder, will happen if there's a four year freeze in spending?
By the way, April Fools!
Actually, no. This is real. It only reads like a prank.
UPDATE: The Center for Tax Justice estimates that the Republican tax plan costs $300 billion more than the Obama plan.
_Over a fourth of taxpayers, mostly low-income families, would pay more in taxes under the House GOP plan than they would under the President’s plan._The richest one percent of taxpayers would pay $100,000 less, on average, under the House GOP plan than they would under the President’s plan.
_The income tax proposals in the House GOP plan, which is presented as a fiscally responsible alternative to the President’s plan, would cost over $300 billion more than the Obama income tax cuts in 2011 alone.
CORRECTION: The top three tax brackets would be reduced to 25 percent. This amounts to a $1.5 million annual tax giveaway to corporate CEOs and the like.

They can't be serious.
4 trillion tax cut for the top bracket?
Privatize medicare?
lmao
If you could come up with the most idiotic things to do right now. And then you took those ideas and one-upped them to the level of absolute insanity... then you would arrive at the republican way of thinking.

Wait, didn't we hear all these arguments individually within the past few months? So they're just combining already rejected ideas and calling it a "plan"? Ugh....

I'm not sure why they bothered offering an alternative budget. It wasn't necessary. Compromise means working with a proposal to make it more acceptable to all parties involved.
Did the Repubs actually use taxpayer money to come up with this alternative budget? Because if they did, they just blatantly wasted money, like flushing it down a crapper.
Nice.

they are breath-takingly stupid.

I hope Sean Hannity knows the words to "Little Miss Can't Be Wrong" because it's gonna take a Spin Doctor to justify any of this crap.
.....I'm so sorry.

This sounds like the student who is given once more chance to redo an assignment that they muffed at the last minute, doesn't do it, and then turns something in at the deadline hoping to get some credit.

In the words of Bob Cesca:
"Keep it up Repubs. You're doing great!"

No surprise here! Forget the fact that Medicare Advantage plans currently cost taxpayers more than traditional Medicare!
How about the fact that the VA can buy drugs at lower taxpayer cost than Medicare Part D being administered by insurance companies!
Republican'ts hate facts!
Fuck 'em!
Posted by: kansasdem at April 1, 2009 4:03 PM
@ kansasdem,
No shit re the Part D. I work for an insurance broker and Part D is a bunch of crap. Absolute fucking nightmare for seniors (and us) and not cost effective at all for the most part.
And I second you on the fuck 'em!

In the correction, is that million or billion?

Kansadem-
"How about the fact that the VA can buy drugs at lower taxpayer cost than Medicare Part D being administered by insurance companies!"
Yes, that's true, the VA can use it huge buying power to get a lower price, however the insurance companies do NOT actuallybuy the medications. Pharmacies buy the drugs from drug wholesalers, who in turn set the price to Pharmacies. It does not effect what the patient pays, that is set by Medicare. It means that chain and independent pharmaices are the one's who get their profits "squeezed", as they have to buy from wholesalers, as the reimbursents they receive from the insurance companies are set by Medicare. The insurance companies receive a flat rate per patient from Medicare, regardless of the cost of drugs, it's the same payment no matter the costs, so the taxpayer is protected on that front.

Well, I guess you could keep 4 trillion in the hands of people that earned it, or, you could take it now from those that don't have it, and, put the responsibility of paying for it to those in the future. And if you don't think they earned it, stop bailing them out. No such thing as too big to fail.
You didn't say anything about the fact that 4 trillion probably would be better spent by a bunch of rich snobs growing their business', then a bunch of shady rich self serving politicians (repubs, sorry to say get to spend at least 1/2 that money). Oh yeah, an Ipod to anyone who thinks condom distribution has done more good then the Gates foundation.

So they invest their four trillion in China and India to grow their business and it employs zero Americans and ships the 4 trillion out of the U.S. economy.
When are you folks going to wake up and realize what your policies are doing to this country?

Bob42 -
We have had enough of supply side, trickle down, Voodoo economics. It doesn't work. Stop trying to sell a defective product.
We won. We will do it our way now. Get used to it.

I know why all you lefties love the Obama budget. Because by-in-large you all will be exempt from paying for it. Perhaps if you all got well-paying, non public sector jobs you'd understand what being in the top 10% tax bracket means. You should all move to Sweden and live a happy socialist life.
May God's peace be with you. Whether you believe or not.
