Manchurian Basket Case

Glenn Beck had one of his famous schizoid embolisms today. Among other things, he seriously claimed that the national debt is "one and a quarter quadrillion dollars." At around 2:47 in the video below, he totally loses his shpadoinkle and starts screaming and karate chopping his desk.

And finally, did you notice the teleprompter?

beck_prompter_grab.jpg

Beck on March 25:

So I mean, it really bothers me, this teleprompter. … It bothers me that this man doesn’t — this man is always on prompter. You want to talk about a Manchurian candidate — that’s it! Who’s writing every word for this man? […] Is it bothering anyone else but me? We have a fraud in office, at least that’s the way it feels to me.

I'm agreeing with Beck on one thing: His statement between 0:40 and 0:46.

I got about 2½ minutes in and couldn't take anymore.

This is the first time I've ever watched this guy for more than a few seconds (the crying clips), but wow. Even blowhards like Limbaugh have got nothing on this apocalyptic @$$ clown. This is the new hero of the conservatives?!?

Is it weird to admit that as a liberal, I'm starting to seriously worry about the future of the GOP? If it's handed over to wackos like this and they somehow find their way back into power, God help us all.

A foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds.

A consistent fool is the little mind full of hobgoblins.

Beck is properly unwell; his fixation with "shooting in the head," his talk of suicide post ass-operation, the idea of immolation implied by the gas-can-- he's dancing with a very dark demon and naming it out loud in order to become "friends" with it.

This guy may very well kill himself on air, or at least tape himself doing it.

I'll bet that's real gasoline :)

Strange...he talks about "we" voting for Obama for change and honesty in politics.

Who's this "we"? Does he have a turd in his pocket or something?

Yes, "we" did vote for Obama for change. I'm pretty sure he would not be included in this "we".

And, he pulls out the "bridge to nowhere" meme...WTF?

Posted by: thespacecowboy at April 9, 2009 10:48 PM

Sorry, Bob. I just can't do it. The stupid burns too much.

Posted by: Kevin at April 9, 2009 11:28 PM

Oh my. Homoerotic much?

Also reminds me of Willy Wonka's rant. Heh.

It's unfortunate that a majority of American citizens are being taught to focus on the theatrics, that he used to get his point across, and not the message.
I might live in Canada, but I see that your Congress has failed to represent the common citizen, by not FORCING a transparency not seen before, from the Federal Reserve. Apparently the original Bailout monies, as told by the "media" at $700 Billion US, has actually grown to 8.8 Trillion US.
Sad that the media is restricting reports of this FACT. But sadder still is the attempted slight of his reputation.

Again, as you watch it,remove his theatrics, and focus on the message.
Good luck down there, citizens need to hold their representatives accountable for their decisions.
Hopefully, America will survive this.

Adding: Good Lord Almighty, man.

John, his theatrics are our problem. No disrespect.

Posted by: jane at April 10, 2009 1:35 AM

I gotta tell you, .... it is very weird being in the majority.

The sniping at MY president feels shitty, but I assume the Bushies
felt the same when we sniped.

The difference is THEY are whining about his competence, dignity,
balls and focus.

Bush/ Cheney were lying, bullying incompetent turds. So I'm not surprised when mouthpieces of the right are idiots as well.

Everyone on TV should do everything live. I agree with Beck, none of this writing stuff done cheating.

There’s just no excuse for dramatic, bullshit, twisted fear-mongering like this. None. It is divorced from reality, without foundation - existing only in Glenn Beck’s tortured imagination and desperate, pandering desire for a greater share of the brainless fuckwit demographic. This horrid crap is not informative, not factual, not analytical and not genuine. It’s unbalanced, paranoid, delusional…it’s fucking nuts.
Now, I fully support a person’s right to be fucking nuts. But when you start inflicting your insanity on the rest of the world by ginning up a bunch of imbeciles, idiots, wingnuts and a rainbow of assorted desperate, fearful morons, infecting them with the toxic pollen of your batshit night sweats, it’s time to drag you out in the field behind the barn and put you out of our misery.

Holy shit! Yeah! I actually thought he sounded a little like Gene Wilder in YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN.

If Beck is trying to be the new Howard Beale, he needs to remember what happens to Beale at the end of that movie.

Posted by: Mike from Boston at April 10, 2009 9:55 AM

This man is seriously ill.
It is pathetic that fox news would show this man and his derangement as nightly news.

Don't they realize that this is dangerous?

How far will they let him go?

Posted by: Diane at April 10, 2009 11:01 AM

Who are the people responsible for putting trash like Beck on TV? Beck apparently lives in his own little world of personal insanity.

cousinavi:It is divorced from reality, without foundation -

That's his audience. To vote Republican the last three elections you would have to be divorced from reality. Do Republicans ever argue from a logical foundation?

Posted by: langx at April 10, 2009 11:47 AM

Glenn Beck is just shockingly insane.

And when he says "we" voted for change that really kills me. No. You and your Fox News friends didn't vote for change, you voted for John McCain. The rest of us voted for change and for the most part we are getting that change we voted for (although admittedly there are a few trouble spots.)

Posted by: Johnny Homes at April 10, 2009 12:07 PM

good lord he just keeps upping the ante. he's not just nuts, he's become dangerous because of the size of his audience. people who are predisposed to believe this crap could quite possibly take him literally and do something insane. it's getting scary.
