Permit Fail
And near the White House no less:
It was a great idea, really. Take 1 million tea bags and dump them in Lafayette Park to protest government spending. Hip, hip, hoo-ray!But a funny thing happened en route to a visually pleasing Tax Day protest. The National Park Service said the tea party protesters didn't have the proper permit to dump their bags.
So instead of a raucous visual demonstration, all that was left was images of the tea party packing up their boxes of tea on a cold, soggy day in D.C. [...]
"We have a million tea bags here, and we don't have a place to put them because it's not on our permit," said Rebecca Wales, lead organizer of D.C. Tea Party.
The same thing happened to the Sons of Liberty. Except for the fact that it didn't.

Only these fools would go through the trouble of acquiring that many teabags to essentialy throw away, and not think to get the proper permit.
Posted by: J M Ashby at April 15, 2009 1:17 PM
If they had any balls, they would have marched those teabags to the steps of the Capitol (or as near as possible), and dumped them anyway, with or without a permit.

Yeah, what's that line about sunshine patriots? Anyway, dopey MSNBC Pishposh Director Chuck Todd just gave the Teabagger-in-chief three minutes of screen time. That's still about one minute more media attention given to the four years worth of anti-war rallies I marched in, cumulatively. Thanks, MSM.

Fools? Fools?? But...Rebecca Wales is the Director of Candidate Outreach at a blog called SmartGirlPolitics.org! Smart Girl Politics! They're very, very smart! Their website says so!
Oh, Smart Girl Politics. If only you had the right permits. For your ... revolution.
*Sigh.*

I SAW A GUN!!!!
Some moron in Oklahoma is proudly wearing his pistol on a belt and holding a sign about gun ownership.
I am not an expert on Oklahoma gun laws but in PA you can't have it displayed. Not that a concealed weapon is any better.

Once again, the Muslim extremist is our friend, what a crock of BULL. Obama has apologised to everyone but the people. Then again, the people have been lied too for decades, Obama is just bringing the end to fruition. He is not American, he is not Black, he is however 50% white, 35% Arab, and 15% Black. He only used the Black thing to get elected, and it worked. He was elected by Black people who sacrificed thier Christian principles for color, and by guilty white people who have been duped into thinking we owe a debt, which we do not. So now the Arab, bows to the Saudi King, and criminalized the American Service man. We got what I expected, how about you?

This is so very typical. "We hate what the government is doing and think they are totally dysfunctional. Please excuse me as I continue to do exactly what the government tells me."
This is isn't about me wanting to see one of these idiots get arrested for dropping a tea bag on the ground (...but, oh, the joy). It's about the fact that if you don't like something you should DO something about it. Don't like your elected officials? ELECT DIFFERENT ONES! Think your current officials are not representing your interests? GET THEM OUT OF OFFICE. But no. You'll keep electing the same incumbents over and over again and then acting shocked when nothing changes. Dumbass fools.

GI:
A person is permitted to carry firearms open and not concealed when hunting, during safety class, target shooting, for a military function, for a police function, or for entertainment events or historical reenactments.
He probably thinks it's okay because of the first bolded item, but I would say he's safe on the grounds of the second.

From what I'm seeing (that is being covered by MSM), most of these protesters are not protesting against taxes; they're protesting against Obama and the administration.
There are signs that read, 'Speak for yourself Obama, this is a Christian Nation' and 'When Pres. Obama bowed to a Saudi King he mooned America'.
There are a few signs regarding taxes, but for the most part, these protesters are as concerned about taxes as I'm concerned about where Bo slept in the White House last night (seriously; I'm so over the dog thing already).

'when obama bowed to a saudi king he mooned america'
How about when bush was brandishing a sword used for beheading people with the saudi king? How about the fact that the saudi royals and the bushes have been spooning eachother for decades?
Posted by: J M Ashby at April 15, 2009 2:09 PM
Tom, thanks, that was funny. I didn't know someone could be 35% anything. you can only be 100, 50, 25, 12.5, 6.25, 3.125, etc....it has to be an exponent of 2.
And this whole...."lucky him he's black" argument. Why didn't MLK run for pres? He would've won, no problem! As a democrat, Obama already had the black vote locked up. The amazing thing is that even though he's black, he got more of the white vote than any non southern dem since FDR.

Here's what I don't understand. They're called tea baggers but they're unwilling to show a little sack and [gasp] break the law with a little civil disobedience. For god's sake, act like you've got a pair, dump the tea bags, and pay the $50 fucking fine for illegally dumping. Are the cops going to break out the rubber bullets, fire hoses, and loose the dogs because they left behind some Orange Pekoe?

I'm beginning to realize that if we invest the money that's going to these bank bailouts into education, we could eliminate the Republican party forever.
These teabaggin' protesters put the 'T' in 'stoopid'.
Posted by: incredulous72 at April 15, 2009 2:41 PM
can someone please explain again: Why are they dumping teabags? What do teabags have to do with anything? The Boston Tea Party was about taxes on TEA. What is the connection to tea this time? Morons.
Kinda reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where Kramer was protesting junk mail in front of the Post Office by staging a dummy dressed as a postal worker with a bucket over its head. Someone asked him the obvious question (I'm paraphrasing now): "why does that dummy have a bucket over its head?"
Kramer: "because we the people are blind to the (post office's) tyranny."
Person: "well then shouldn't the bucket be on YOUR head?"

Lee B. inquired:

What's intentionally being obfuscated by liberals is that the protests are not about taxes on tea -- as in the original Boston Tea Party -- but using the symbolism from the historical act to express grievances against a reckless government that's perpetrating one injustice after another against the American people.

Are you fucking kidding me Atanarjuat?
I'm pretty sure everyone is well aware that it is not a protest about taxes on tea.
The "symbolism" is completely innapropiate for these protests, thats why he is asking what tea has to do with anything. The original tea party was a PROTEST of a corporate tax CUT.
And don't get me fucking started on...
"reckless government that's perpetrating one injustice after another against the American people"
Really? ... really? You can't possibly believe your own bullshit.
Posted by: J M Ashby at April 15, 2009 3:18 PM
Excuse me Atanarjuat, but I'm just curious; why now? Why are these protests happening now, when the 'reckless government' you speak of has been voted out of office?
These problems didn't start with this administration. The current administration is in the process of dealing with the injustices perpetrated by the previous administration.

Hey incredulous:
Don't bother. Trust me on this one.
Posted by: jenski42 at April 15, 2009 3:39 PM
Why now? Because it took them eight years to get up the nerve to protest the government. I mean come on, it was treasonous to even question what tater (from the SNL skit where he was dick tater) did.
Also, how better to protest government spending than dumping stuff in a public place so government employees have to spend time (tax money) cleaning up.
Posted by: brutlyhonest at April 15, 2009 3:46 PM
I know Jenski42. It's like watching 14-car pile up; I couldn't help myself.
Posted by: incredulous72 at April 15, 2009 3:46 PM
Here is on that has been floating around my liberal fascist mind all day. If Obama is raping the Constitution and a Fascist Dictator, why are you allowed to protest now?
Also, if Bush was a Fascist Dictator(which is was) why didn't you protest then? I think is was because you were scared he would send his Gestapo Police(Blackwater) after you.
Now, who is the fascist?

They're terrified of having to spend a night in jail, jails they've been in favor of underfunding so conditions probably wouldn't be up to their standards.
BTW--in my town the "Tea Party" is being held in the parking lot of the local mall, which to me seems a mite suspicious, like who will be there to witness this rebellious act? And 2nd, I would think the mall management company must have give approval, since its private property. Weird

Sometimes it takes a good while for certain, unpleasant facts about one's country to sink in. If you'll recall, there already was unhappiness with Bush's immigration reform proposals, as well as the Medicare boondoggle that even Senate Republicans betrayed their constituents on.
Many of us thought that Barack Obama's "Change" campaign was supposed to put this country back on a proper, fiscally responsible course, instead of unbelievably accelerating its destruction. Therein lies the basis for the Tea Party protests which were staged today.

@J - 'Don't like your elected officials? ELECT DIFFERENT ONES! Think your current officials are not representing your interests? GET THEM OUT OF OFFICE.'
This is the part of my neighbour's politics that always puzzles me, and, at times, even frightens me. Why is there this constant push to protest (violently?), to insult and belittle your political opponent, to assassinate, etc. etc? Why not just await the next election and make your vote count against the incompetent, or for the competent, ones? While I'm not a history buff, I can't remember any incidents of assassinations or major protests against specific political leaders here in the north [at least, not in modern times]. I confess that I've been holding my breath at work today hoping that nothing majorly negative happened, and waiting to get home and be updated on the situation. Given what little I know of American history, I'm always fearful of the WORST happening. I am VERY relieved and glad that no major confrontation, (etc) happened.

incredulous72, are you anti-war? If you truly are, just letting you know that the current administration is "in the process of" continuing the status quo. This is just one example of how the wording may change with a new administration, but the actual government policy doesn't change.
