Carl - did you see Rachel's response to Sen Burr's response to her last night?
If not, Paddy posted it here.
It's worth seeing twice :)

Posted by: Alex at April 17, 2009 8:23 PM

I've gotta get talk about this:

So I know that I'm a parent. And I totally get more veclempt about kid stuff now than when I wasn't a parent. But reading this post on The Political Carnival made me want to vomit. The idea of torturing kids the same age as my little boy...terrifying them....just to get at their dad. Somehow, somewhere, someone lost the remnants of their soul. It is just totally revolting and I would beat the shit out of anyone who did that crap to my kid. (possibly worse, but the NSA is listening, y'all)

Posted by: Kat at April 17, 2009 8:48 PM

And ixnay the 'get' in my first sentence. Goddamn typo.

Posted by: Kat at April 17, 2009 8:49 PM

i'm with you kat. and i have no rugrats. i said that lovingly. kinda. ;)

seriously though, when i read that i thought about all the kids i have big sistered from abusive homes and the story of that stepdad hitting a baby in the head with a hammer. WHO COULD EVER DO THAT?!?! EVER?!?! honest to god, i can't even kill a bee because i read that when an older bee can't work as fast or the queen can't produce they cast them out to die. literally there is "guard" bees that protect the opening! so i always think - well this is the one that has no home so i try to take care of it! hehe...

it is so disgusting what people can do!

There is a streak of sadism in the most recent generation that appears worse than usual. A 12 year old in MA hung himself because his classmates were giving him shit for being gay. It's not even clear that he *was* gay. He was only 12 years old for FSM's sake.

They gay hatred is being whipped up. Perhaps it's time to declare war on the Church of LDS.

Obama Dog Trainer: Bo Already "Sits, Shakes, Rolls Over"
WEDNESDAY APRIL 15,2009
Bo Obama has officially moved into the White House.

L.A. Unified School District moves to cut 5,000 teachers and others

Los Angeles school district officials moved forward Tuesday with plans to lay off more than 5,000 teachers, counselors, custodians, clerks and other employees, but the battle over funding will rage on for weeks -- affecting who goes, who stays and what schools and classrooms will look like for students next year.

In a move to prevent even more job losses, Vice President Biden said he would build a bridge.

Posted by: RedFauxNews at April 17, 2009 9:40 PM

Mr. Nathan Moore's ridiculous blog that called Janeane Garofalo "a complete and utter idiot" accepted and published two comments from me. He gets credit for that. He could suppress dissenting opinions if he wanted to.

His response to my points consists of an appeal to his constitutional right to state a dissenting view and to protest. He doesn't address the fact that what he stated in his blog post was either misinformed opinion or a bald faced lie.

He is correct that the constitution protects his right to be a lying sack of shit. It also protects my right to point out that he is a lying sack of shit.

Barack Obama sees first glimmer of hope
"Times are still tough," the US President said yesterday. "But from where we stand, for the very first time, we are beginning to see glimmers of hope."

Follow up reports indicate that upon further inspection, the oberved glimmer of hope was actually the reflected lights off shiny objects that Joe Biden was staring at.

World Agenda: Nicolas Sarkozy puts Barack Obama in the doghouse

Why the master of America's new First Mutt is no longer in good odour with President Sarkkozy.
Charles Bremner
France has been cooing along with everyone else over the arrival of Bo Obama at the White House, but the master of America's new First Dog is no longer in good odour with President Sarkozy.
Mr Sarkozy is pouring cold water on President Obama's efforts to recast American leadership on the world stage, depicting them as unoriginal, unsubstantial and overrated. Behind leaks and briefings from the Elysée Palace lies Mr Sarkozy's irritation at the rock-star welcome that Europe gave Mr Obama on his Europan tour earlier this month.
The American President's call "to free the world of the menace of a nuclear nightmare" was hot air, Mr Sarkozy's diplomatic staff told him in a report. "It was rhetoric – not a speech on American security policy but an export model aimed at improving the image of the United States," they said. Most of Mr Obama's proposals had already been made by the Bush administration and Washington was dragging its feet on disarmament and treaties against nuclear proliferation, the leaked report said.

What has Hugo Chavez ever done to you?

Did he piss in your cornflakes?

Do you think calling people Evil is a brilliant foreign policy?

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 17, 2009 10:01 PM

Sarkozy is an asshat corporatist tool. If things continue as they are now he will not be reelected.

His approval rating polls have been into plummet mode. The only reason he has any approval at all is because his wife is hot.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 17, 2009 10:06 PM

I'm about as socialist as you, silly, but Hugo Chavez is kind of a dick and anti-semitic. Look up Jews in Venezuela.

Posted by: fe at April 17, 2009 10:06 PM

fe -

I am not defending Chavez. I am pointing out that he is the leader of a foreign country and unless you have plans to invade, occupy, and replace their leadership *I* think it much better to talk to them rather than call them names on the TeeVee. The past administration was like watching total incompetence in action.

Chavez is a reprehensible dick. It's not even clear that his election was honest. (I believe he rigs the voting machines.)

Having said that, I'll now say that I prefer having a president that says things like that only in private and does his best to work with the douchebag in a positive fashion.

US EPA shifts course and declares CO2 a health risk

Sing along to "Every Breath you Take"

Every breathe you take
Every cent you make
No middle class tax-break, and you cant escape
Ill be taxing you

Oh can't you see
It belongs to me
How my hands cant wait
For everything you make

Everything I say
There's a price to pay
Every child who plays, in the United States
I'll be taxing you

Since I been here, I always get my way
I talk of taxing the rich but I see your (middleclass) face
I look around and its you I cant replace
I really (call?) and your trust has been misplaced
You keep crying Barry, Barry pleeeeaaaassssseeeeeeee.

Every breathe you take
Every cent you make
No middle class tax-break, and you cant escape
Ill be taxing you
No middle-class tax break, and you cant escape
I'll be taxing you

Ex-McCain aide to call for gay marriage support
Posted: 05:54 AM ET

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Steve Schmidt, a key architect of John McCain's presidential campaign, is making his first public return to Washington a bold one.

Schmidt will use a speech Friday to Log Cabin Republicans, a gay rights group, to urge conservative Republicans to drop their opposition to same-sex marriage, CNN has learned.

The “Log Crammin' Republicans” will no doubt be ridiculed by the left.

Janeane Garofalo probably has an IQ of about 145-155. You just don't like her politics.

She is no idiot. Her standup comedy routines were some of the few that I thought were as intelligent as Williams, Carlin, and Hicks.

Steve Schmidt has a gay sister. He's doing what the entire Republican party should do - He's advocating stopping the discrimination against homosexuals.

If the Republican party would stop pandering to the medieval superstitions of the Religious Wrong, they might actually be able to move into the 19th century.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 17, 2009 11:18 PM

Shoe, hand and nose size, cowboy. I have discovered that all three indicators are required for proper estimation.

Posted by: Kat at April 17, 2009 11:23 PM

I think jane and Janeane have the biggest dicks. It's too close to call whose is bigger.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 17, 2009 11:23 PM

I guess sticking one's hands down the person's pants is out of the question?

Probably a social faux pas.

Plus...there are "grow-ers" and there are "show-ers".

Makes it kind of difficult. Quite the conundrum.

Posted by: thespacecowboy at April 17, 2009 11:26 PM

I can get away with the "hands down the pants" move only when I'm hella drunk, cowboy. Which then leaves the question if it was the alcohol talking.

I lurve you guys ;)

Ridicule is the easiest method. (I learned something from ol' bobby.) But, it doesn't make me any smarter.

Nose size?

So Cyrano was hung like Kong?

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 17, 2009 11:48 PM

Is it fair to stoop to a lower level to make others look and feel stupid?

Look,I've been on here before, only to be bashed with all sorts of name calling. (You would think a guy could get some kind of intelligent feedback.)

It must be far easier to call another a "Douche", then to admit to yourselves that your agenda can be "Punked" just like any other.

EVERY PRESIDENT SINCE CARTER HAS USED A TELEPROMPTER. W could barely read so it didn't help him very much.

What do you want to talk about? I don't mind talking to people with opposing viewpoints. I usually learn something doing so. I'm not going to debate the latest batch of Rove issued talking points since that involves showing that facts have been distorted to support the talking point. Propaganda does not interest me. Real heart felt opinion based on critical thinking does.

He's really no different than about 99% of the Media Clowns out there masqurading as real journalists. What he does is an "Art", but it doesn't mean everyone is falling for it.

Most of the problems that we having in this country today, are a direct result of the public being spoon-fed a daily dose of complete Bullshit from thier news media.

Which, explains the decisiveness and name calling.

You guy's can't tell me that if I found a venue to 'wise-crack" my around the Political scene, that I wouldn't find many followers who believed my every word, hook line and sinker.

(no fishing pun intended)

Posted by: blue dog at April 18, 2009 12:26 AM

Hi Git

Fishing is pretty good between La Paz and Loreto. The water gets warm and then cools down again.

Frankly, I eat a Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) once in a while. But, what I really enjoy are the whales! Saw two fin whales jumping like a dolphin.

I wish we could respond to each comment rather than a linear layout. I have seen some blog designs like this.

Oh, hey Carl.... I checked out your blog site and i will keep on doing so. Sorry about the stuff that went on bro.

cowboy,

I don't have to agree to hold an opinion.

Posted by: blue dog at April 18, 2009 12:32 AM

hielo, have you noticed any changes in the security in Mexico? or are you pretty removed from the epicenter?

With liberals, opinions are constantly in flux since they are updated with every input of fresh data. This is something that conservatives fail to grok.

Conservatives usually have opinions based on an ideology. These opinions tend to be static since the ideology that is their base evolves very slowly, if at all.

Liberal ideology (which is almost an oxymoron) is a very loose set of guidelines that is constantly being revised. Liberal opinion based on these guidelines is by no means uniform. The guidelines are loose enough to accommodate differing opinions.

Liberals do not all think alike and they do not agree on anything more than a very small list of ideals. If you wait for liberals to agree on everything you will be waiting until the heat death of the universe.

Ideology is a trap for those that can not adapt to a changing environment.

Adapt or die.

git,

Both sides of the Political spectrum are using it to demean esch other.

And, the problem is that both sides of the people are being taken for a ride.

If I did not have a TV set I would not know there was even an issue. Honestly.

I guess there are isolated big problems (some borders, Sinaloa, etc) but life here has not changed at all for me or my friends (including a bunch of Mexican citizens).

The thing about Mexico is that there is no "gun" paranoia. Other than the weapons the U.S. sends down, firearms are not a part of anyone's prize possesions.

Of course there is theft. There are still many poor (but getting a lot better quickly).

The recession has not been a big deal because credit is almost non-existent. This country is a big-time survivor. It has been through this many times. no big deal.

I love this country and these wonderful people.

Git-

"Liberals do not all think alike and they do not agree on anything more than a very small list of ideals"

Can you educate me on what some of those ideals are? Thanks

blue dog -

I have to admit that you are correct on that as well. I can't make an honest argument against that statement.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 18, 2009 12:57 AM

And, not that I was present or even 100% agree with the Tea Party gatherings, but those people who were present are American people, with a voice and something they wanted to say.

You don't have to agree with them, but it does seems to be a tad disrectful to attempt to diminish thier voices through sarcasim and ridicule.

What's so wrong with allowing someone to lay down thier opinion, and then taking it for whatever it's worth.

Git, fe, Mink, Vera, Jane, Carl..... all of you......

I gotta sign off for now. I'll be around this weekend if anybody gives a shit.

I can only speak for myself. The democratic party has a platform parts of which I don't always agree with.

The liberals that I have spoken to about this topic generally agree on the following list of 'ideals' (I don't know what else to call them) for what we want from our government (this is government collectively: local, state, federal):

1. Mutual Defense and Domestic Tranquility. This includes DoD as well as law enforcement, fire deparments, and related. These functions are the duty of the government to provide for all citizens.

2. Promote the general welfare. This needs its own comment.

3. Uphold and defend the Constitution and all additional laws created in accordance with constitutionally mandated procedures. This is what the ACLU is all about. Odd that conservatives don't like upholding and defending the constitution.

That's all I can think of now. I think I am missing one. Note that I said that these are loose.

I'll expand 2. in the next comment.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 18, 2009 1:12 AM

Thanks!

BTW- I was around in the 70's like you with long hair, doing the anti-establishment thing, and at that time a Democrat. A Sociology major in college, dropped out of the masters program in Soc., & stayed a dem. for another 15 years or so.

Posted by: ubez at April 18, 2009 1:30 AM

Blue Dog, I don't think the teabaggers had much of a coherent message, except they hate the government, especially the present government. There were a ton of ignorant comments bout fascism ant tyranny. It was over hyped and underwhelming. All Americans have a right to assemble and speak their minds, such as they are.

Posted by: emsique at April 18, 2009 1:42 AM

2. Promote the general welfare.

a. Everyone is entitled to an education at government (taxpayer) expense. Currently K-12 is covered. I advocate that K-12 is inadequate. It should be K-whatever level the student is qualified to go to.

b. Everyone is entitled to health care. Right now we onl have everyone that is disabled or over 65 is entitled to health care. This has to be fixed to *everyone* is entitled to health care. I think most liberals are on this same page now. I have advocated single payer health care for over thirty years but I used to be pretty much by myself. Now that things have gotten totally fucked up and unacceptable, more people have finally noticed that the system we are using does not work.

c. The government is responsible to regulate industry so that everyone has clean water to drink, clean air to breath, pure foods to eat, and safe drugs to treat disease. In the 60s and 70s there were no E. Coli or Salmonella poisonings of Americans. In 1981 Reagan began the dismantling of EPA and FDA and we now have regular events of food and water supply contaminations. The conservatives take a working government, defund it into a nonworking government, and then stand back and say "See, we told you that government doesn't work."

c. The government is responsible to regulate the durable goods, consumer goods, and transportation industry so that citizens are protected from corporate greed. Products and services that harm customers are not allowed period.

d. The government is responsible to regulate the banking, financial, insurance, and investment industry so that citizens are protected from corporate greed.

e. If it hasn't been covered by any of the previous items, The government is responsible to regulate all businesses so that citizens are protected from businesses.

--------------------------

Observations:

The deregulation of the banking, investment, insurance, and financial industries by Gramm-Heath-Bliley was the biggest stupid fucking move of the past half century. Gramm should be hung.

Corporations have too much power. We will not regain control of our government until something is done about this. PPP, myself, and I think Lexaburn and mmortal03 have all mentioned this more that once. Lobbying, Campaign Financing, and treating Corporations like a virtual human all have to be addressed and corrected.

That really helped. I have a much clearer idea now, than before. That was generous of you to take so much time.

blue dog, free speech is a two way street. No one is trying to suppress anyone's ability to speak their opinion--we are just exercising our right to mock said (though "unsaid" fits better) opinion.

You are welcome. I prefer thoughtful dialog to incendiary diatribes.

I'd be interested in your notions of how a government should work.

We are close to the same age then.

I studied Political Science (I was considering law school) for two ears then changed major to Electrical Engineering. I've worked as an Engineer for nearly 30 years.

I don't expect people to all think like me or agree with me on anything let alone everything. All I expect is that people can show a logical thought train to support their opinions. I always respected Bill Buckley because he always explained his position so well that even when I disagreed with him, I could not fault his reasoning that led to his conclusion. I always learned the most from reading about his positions I disagreed with.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 18, 2009 2:05 AM

totally off topic, but is engineering a good living? I have a friend who's interested in that career.

Posted by: fe at April 18, 2009 2:06 AM

Damn emsique,

I hope that didn't cause you any distress.

How are things?

Yes. With qualifications.

People that can get an Engineering degree are engineers because they have a talent for it. It was my first best destiny to be an Engineer. I would have been a mediocre Doctor, Lawyer, or Indian Chief. I am a very, very good Engineer.

The profession has gone to hell in a handbasket however. Corporations have become hell to work work for. If you read Dilbert comics, that is pretty much exactly what life is like for engineers now. Also jobs are being outsourced to India and China.

I can't really recommend that anyone go into engineering anymore. But engineers usually have to become engineers regardless of everything else.

Posted by: Silly Ratfaced Git at April 18, 2009 2:20 AM

Hi Git. I'm adjusting to my new found ability to at least write "spot on". I can't actually say it. Baby steps. I did get over a childhood fear of spiders so anything is possible. Moved into a nicer place, found a much faster internet service, and got really sick from eating too much eel.
Engineering jobs aren't the only thing moving to China, since I moved my whole personal economic recovery program here.

heilo, when Bob weighs in on IP I will go from there. If I'm wrong, I will apologize. Someone, if it is not you, spent a lot of time studying your original posts and some hence. So I'm holding out until we have confirmation from Bob (which I've requested and hope he settles the issue).

Posted by: dontpanic23 at April 18, 2009 8:26 AM

P.S.--if you hadn't come in here calling us all assholes--don't quote me but it's close enough--I'd believe you immediately. I'm not normally this hard to get along with but you were way past abrasive at the start and nigh onto arrogant and pissy. You got nicer but I still need proof since it hasn't been that long since your initial insulting verbal assault.

Posted by: dontpanic23™ at April 18, 2009 10:34 AM

DP

If you are still on this thread... then here is the deal. I do not feel the need to prove anything to you or anyone else. i know what happened here. If Bob checks this out then you will just have to STFU. No apologies required. If he doesn't you will still have to STFU because like i said.... I know exactly what happened... and you don't.

Posted by: hielo at April 18, 2009 8:46 PM

I do not plan on shutting the fuck up. If you are right and someone used your name, I will STFU about that. But do not tell me to STFU in general. You do not own this place. I think that would be Bob. Don't tell me what or what not to say. I was ready to apologize but you can forfuckingget that if that's the way you feel about it. As far as I'm concerned you do not exist.

Posted by: dontpanic23™ at April 18, 2009 9:36 PM

Hi DP

I guess you are still on this thread. Just one thought....

What if someone was challenging your credibility? Would you be just a little bit pissed?

Oh, and as to my first "verbal assault"... yeah i was a little gnarley that night and I will apologize for that. I thought i had done so already.
