Quote of the Day

"One of the great strengths of the United States is ... we have a very large Christian population -- we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."
—President Obama yesterday in Turkey

I don't care what your point of view, nobody deserves to take Bill Hicks' good name in vain.

Please desist, sir.

Posted by: AC at April 7, 2009 4:23 PM

...put another way: I've seen Bill Hicks on TV. I've seen Bill Hicks on YouTube. You, sir, are no Bill Hicks.

Posted by: AC at April 7, 2009 4:24 PM

hicks, if you are so pissed off go teabagging. we will try to pick your dumb, stupid sign holding, white ass out of the other dumb, stupid sign holding, white asses! that would be lots of fun for us...

Posted by: gypsy at April 7, 2009 4:29 PM

Who is Bill Hicks?

The dork that wrote the first blog is clearly a mega-stroker with zero credibility.

Posted by: hielo at April 7, 2009 4:30 PM

Good one AC. Fact is, Obama is doing what his most ardent supporters wanted him to do, not 100%, but most of what he has pledged. Forgive us for being a little excited that we actually seem to have a qualified and competent president for once who is so far following through on his campaign pledges.

Obama loots the American people? Hasn't looted me yet. Ok, he's passing our debt onto my children but this has been done for decades now, never more so than under the previous administration. At least we might be getting something constructive from the upcoming budgets.

Anyway, I love this quote. I'm surprised there isn't more of an uproar from the christian conservatives about it.

Posted by: Jeff at April 7, 2009 4:32 PM

@Jeff: I'm sure it will be coming. Five, four...

@WH: Has it occured to you that maybe, just maybe, Bob doesn't think President Obama is looting the nation? That maybe Bob has an opinion different than yours? It hasn't? Oh. Okay then.

Hick Billy,

We meet again, comrade. If you are happy about your circumventing THAN DON'T ADVERTISE HOW EASY IT WAS!!!

NO ONE, repeat, NO ONE is fucking happy about the bank bailouts or the increased debt. However, it takes A GIANT PAIR of balls to make hard decisions. To quote, "Just punting it down the road" isn't a fucking option.

Yes, Geithner is a corporatist tool. But given a man(OBAMA) that watched a mother argue with insurance companies on her death bed, HAD STUDENT FUCKING LOANS and was against the Iraq war he is the best person for the job.

What should we do about the 5% of shit we don't agree with? Impeachment? Wait....I know what we should do with the BLACK President, JIM CROW!!!! Again, I fucked you up earlier today and will gladly do it again.

WH -

I never thought I'd be channeling Scalia, but:

"You lost. Get over it."

You don't surround us; we surround you. You lost in 2008, not by a little, but by a lot.

Feel free to protest, keep Lipton in business, come here and disrupt a blog that obviously doesn't share your ideas. It's your right.

The frustration you feel is what most of us woke up to every day for the past 8 years. Deal.

Posted by: jenski42 at April 7, 2009 4:45 PM

Obama loots the American people

This is factually incorrect. There are no facts in evidence to support such an assertion.

The President was duly elected by a overwhelming majority of citizens. He is pursuing the plan he outlined during his campaign and he won the election. If you don't like what he is doing vote against him next election.

The is Bob Cesca's Blog and he can write anything he wants to. If you don't like what Bob writes, then don't read it. You don't get to tell others what to write. Go write your own blog.

You need to stop listening to tools that are feeding you wild conspiracy stories to interfere with correct the horrid mess left by the fascist assholes that nearly destroyed this country.

Please go back to Hot Air or Free Republic or whatever world wide web of delusion you came from.

Do not feed the trolls, and they will not come back for seconds.

And, for all who care, this was on CNN yesterday, and there was a lot of hooing and hawing about how this most CERTAINLY a Christian nation, the Founding Fathers said so blah blah revision, revision, this was one nation under GOD more revision, etc.

Anyone with basic cable and the History Channel should know better.

Git,

First, FUCK YOU!!! My argumentative nature and childish curiosity sent me into "Hot Air". For the 3 minutes that I was there, I saw, "BO is ARROGANT!" Which can be translated into, UPPITY or THAT N*&^%R NEEDS TO STAY IN HIS PLACE.

I will never do that again. Git, looking back it isn't really your fault that I went into the DOOM ROOM.

So, do the American values *still* include warrantless search and seizure? What the hell is up with this, Bob? (reference: http://www.eff.org/press/archives/2009/04/05)

GI -

My comment was directed at the Troll, not you.

No apology is necessary. Shit happens.

I wish I knew. The administration is making a huge mistake with this state secrets crap. You're not going to find any comforting words from me about this one.

Posted by: Bob Cesca at April 7, 2009 6:09 PM

It's the lockstep mentality. Just because one supports and generally agrees with the president doesn't mean that one agrees with EVERYTHING the president says/does/has policies for.
It's a lesson that the GOP needs to learn again ... and they need to stop thinking of the Dems as being just like them as far as unquestioning loyalty goes.

One other thing from Joe this morning....he had on Arlen Specter who, I'm not making this up, said "If it's good enough for Ronald Reagan, it's good enough for America."

Posted by: ceu at April 7, 2009 6:35 PM

@ Bob
Re: State Secrets
Given the dark shit that came out while the Evil Cheney was still running his game (crap always bubbles to the surface sooner or later), imagine the sort of destructive, hideous, almost inconceivable putrefaction that would be unleashed were Seymour Hersch given free reign to really start excavating, and Gitmo defense counsel could start issuing subpoenas for every memo exchanged between Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Cheney, Feith...
It seems entirely likely to me that Obama is here faced with choosing the distasteful (maintaining the State Secrets clusterfuck) or exposing a few metric assloads of shit that would find the United States dragged before every international body from the UN to the IMF for a laundry list of illegal, immoral, WTF moves that earn woodshed canings - probably, under the facts, well deserved...and that would be in addition to exponentially increasing the degree of harm to which American troops are presently subjected.
I'm not saying I agree with the principle. I'm just suggesting that there is more than likely a very real and very pragmatic...and very GOOD reason for making a clear choice to walk down that ugly road at least a little further.
