This Won't End Well

The Ohio Militia is trying to organize a "peaceful" march on Washington composed of ten million armed militia members. Ten million armed citizens marching into the nation's capital.

That's more than twice the numbers that attended the inauguration -- and every single person would be packing heat.

For reference, the United States Army is made up of approximately 1 million soldiers. The Marines are around 200,000.

WTF!

But there are no right wing extremists Bob!

Posted by: kansasdem at April 22, 2009 8:37 AM

You know, I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that they don't actually have ten million militia men. And if they did, I would further guess that 70% of them couldn't find Washington on a map.

Out of curiosity, does any one remember the name of the "law" that states that without an obvious indication it is impossible to discern a far right communication from a parody of a far right text communication? Or something like that.

That video is right on the edge of satire but it appears to be 100% legit. Unless the dude has been playing a massive joke on us since October. In which case... kudos!

Who knows, maybe they'll all start shooting each other.

Posted by: Sloane at April 22, 2009 9:23 AM

Ah, don't worry about it.

Their permits will be denied.

Posted by: Wolfe Tone at April 22, 2009 9:56 AM

Man, this is just crazy. These wingnuts are totally off! My first question to them would be, why didn't they mount this after 9/11 and volunteer to go to Afghanistan and actually do something constructive? This is asinine, illogical, and completely unnecessary.

"This will not end well"

I have to agree. Especially if they muster even part of this. I can't imagine it being viewed as anything other than an insurrection. It is self-fulfilling.

Goddamn.

Posted by: jmrunning3 at April 22, 2009 10:09 AM

What's the law for carrying firearms in Washington DC? I don't think this can happen. And I agree with Mike - ten million militia seems like an awfully high number.

Posted by: Broadway Carl™ at April 22, 2009 10:55 AM

10 million my ass. More like 10.

Posted by: Lee B. at April 22, 2009 11:30 AM

Million Man Fake Militia Moron March. This whole idea is one of a nut from in Ohio who has hidden his identity. He will not be going to Washington. He is just trying to push others into getting into trouble. He just wants them in Washington with guns, so someone will start shooting. He knows that one of his fake militia buddy will break the law, and when police try to deal with it, others fake militia members will try and stop the arrest. He is trying to throw a match on the gasoline for the fun of it. A patriot doesn't try to hurt the country by setting up a situation that is dangerous for everyone. He just needs more hate to keep believing he is not wasting his time in the fake militias.

Posted by: Michael at April 22, 2009 11:35 AM

lol. Who knew?????

And I agree- how about they take their ten million asses on over to Iraq and Afghanistan and relieve our soldiers.

oh wait-no-they do their fighting from the couch.

Posted by: Jan at April 22, 2009 11:40 AM

There is not the tiniest chance that these nuts could even muster 100,000 armed people. Think about it. After a masive amount of publicity, they were only able to rally 200,000 or so for their teabag parties. Even imagining that every one of those idiots is armed, how many are likely to actually pick up and travel to Washington?
I worked on many of the big anti-war demonstrations in the 70s and I can tell you that getting a million people to Washington is a BIG fucking deal. It requires a huge base of popular sentiment and a lot of organization.
The wingnuts are not nearly organized and disciplined enough to pull it off, even if the popular sentiment were there...and it isn't.

Posted by: CanadaGoose at April 22, 2009 11:43 AM

Jan, good call: The God™ forbid they should actually risk getting in FRONT of a bullet for any reason. Long as these firearm-fellators (sp?) are behind a weapon, they act all big-n-pahrfull-like.

Posted by: jmrunning3 at April 22, 2009 11:53 AM

Damn you Wolf Tone! You beat me to the 'permit' joke!

I'm with you guys - there's a 0% chance they can get anywhere near that many people together.

Posted by: rogect8 at April 22, 2009 11:57 AM

Just a couple things:

The Active Duty US Army is around 530,000
The National Guard and Reserves is around 525,000
Subtract Germany(40,000), Korea(30,000) Iraq(120,000) Afghanistan(40,000) and every other random oversea duty station(50,000?)

1,055,000-280,000=775,000 available US Army soldiers to save us from the Ohio Militia. But don't worry soldiers have things called combat multipliers to deal with being out numbered.

"Show of force is a military term for an operation intended to warn or intimidate an opponent and to showcase one's own capability or will to act if provoked." (WIKI, 2009)

An armed march on the capital would be a "show of force" which I believe is hardly a "peaceful protest."

Also, I missed the "Mission or Objective" of this march on Washington. What are they protesting and if they are performing a "show of force" on the government or politicians than it should be a criminal act.

Moreover, Where the fuck were these "Patriots" when the recruitment of the US Army was so low that we had to recruit convicted felons? My guess it that they couldn't pass the simple math exam or basic reasoning tests to qualify. I would say they are all high school drop puts but that doesn't matter or had criminal records but that doesn't matter either.

Never bring a rifle to an AFV fight.

I've said many times that the gene pool needs chlorine.

If we were interested in 'culling the herd' to eliminate low quality genetic material, this would be a prime opportunity.

Just sayin'.

I can see their 10,000,000 man march now. 135 guys with guns start in Ohio and get all the way to Pittsburgh before wandering into Oakland and getting arrested en masse for having firearms on a college campus. Good protest, everyone. GG.

Posted by: Tusz at April 22, 2009 1:49 PM

I'd expect that when these nutjobs start on their trip east from Ohio to DC, they'll be arrested before they get to Wyoming.

Yeah -- exactly...

Posted by: The Dogfather at April 22, 2009 1:49 PM

Oh Geez...would love to hear that permit phone call!..."ahhh, let me see if I have this straight..you want a permit to march on the U.S. Capital, over ten million of you guys you say?, armed with guns? Can I get back to you on that?"

Posted by: midad at April 22, 2009 2:23 PM

Wolverines!!! Who's with me?!

4 million will end up in Spokane.

Posted by: Duros62 at April 22, 2009 2:24 PM

GI the Joe Johnson is right! Who brings a gun to a peaceful protest? Or a million for that matter, although my guess is that guns will out number people at this thing by at least 2 to 1. I'm just wondering how many hand grenades there will be floating around.
Seriously though, people usually don't bring a gun someplace unless there's a chance that they'll need to use it, and these guys strike me as the kind who think they always need it. You know in case some terrorists or illegal immigrants show up.
But really, human nature + big crowds+ big guns = bloodbath.
How wrong would it be for me to say I don't really mind if these "true Americans" blew each other to pieces?

Posted by: ElMystico at April 22, 2009 2:28 PM

The point of the march is??
Peaceful...but bring your guns...hmmm.
So, instead of just hanging out at the local gun club or smash-up derby...these guys can get together with 'millions' of like-minded & armed buddies & compare weapons & pick-up trucks & discuss how to make America a better place.
I don't imagine any of these concientious folk will be swilling any brewskis while they're having such a fun time...that would be irresponsible!
I'm sure permits will not be issued...but just the fact that these guys are fantasizing about doing something which could so easily erupt into chaos & violence is shocking to me.

Posted by: Lsamsa at April 22, 2009 3:05 PM

Well it would seem the right wing extremists just made the best case possible for the banning of assault weapons. Thanks for doing the job for us you inbred hicks

Posted by: Ozymandias at April 22, 2009 3:21 PM

This is nothing more than one militia guy's stunt aimed at promoting himself to major general.

The highest actual rank he ever held was probably Private First Class.

I don't know who started this ridiculous story but they seriously need mental health care. The only Extremest I've seen Lately is the One that set Bombs at Clinics and I think he was a leftist

Posted by: John Black at April 22, 2009 6:36 PM

These clowns are looking to create a flashpoint event such as Ruby Ridge or Waco. Then they'll have a cause with martyrs.

Posted by: mikecola at April 22, 2009 7:07 PM

Weigl mentions Mark Koernke in his blog entry. I live about 2 miles from Mark Koernke. That guy is scary. The week after the election he had giant signs posted in front of his house that said "Buy More Ammo NOW!", "Socialists are Thieves!" and "Buy a Gas Mask NOW!"

Posted by: Eclectablog at April 22, 2009 10:10 PM

Also adding Mark Koernke is a convicted felon and, therefore, is not allowed to own firearms. Hopefully that will prevent him from attending.
