I've always been amazed by people who received public assistance being against it later. Every time some yahoo I know starts bitching about the welfare queen with a bunch of kids and a cadillac (or lexus/bmw/etc) I like to 'splain how I was a recipient as a kid because my parents made some mistakes and needed a hand getting back on their feet. Seems I did OK surviving - and even excelling - in the US Navy.

If that doesn't work I like to talk about all the waste in military contracting & budgeting - calling that welfare makes people in an area that would be just another backwater without all the Federal outlays gets attention.

What the hell is this moron thinking? When my girlfriend and I saw this quote on TV yesterday we just turned and looked at each in dumbfounded incredulity at the stupidity of it. It may just be the most idiotic quote so far this year, and he said it straight-faced and without a hint of irony. No siree, he pulled himself up by his own bootstraps! That's hilarious!

But I think you are missing the point.. He isn't saying he is against it.. He is missing the point all together that it was a "Hand Out" while he is bitching about people getting a "Hand Out".

Because that was the tone and tenor of what Nelson and Beck were saying.. that what the our Government has been doing to the companies was a "hand out" yet him taking welfare and food stamps from the government was not a government give away or "hand out"
