Interesting story from The Nation via Alternet "FBI Blows It: Supposed Terror Plot Against NY Synagogues Is Bogus"

yeah - and it's just coincidental that, even though the investigation supposedly went on for a year, the arrests/plot/etc was announced at the height of the closing Gitmo & "terrorists will be walking our streets" debate/bullshit.

Posted by: ceu at May 23, 2009 12:07 PM

thanks for the article ceu. Didn't I hear this week that the guys were convicted for the Sears Tower plot? It was a scam and they are doing time. That can't be right?

Posted by: veralynn at May 23, 2009 12:16 PM

Ceu - The men arrested are all also borderline-retarded. Their IQs are low enough to be in special ed. They are also potheads and one of them is on drugs for schizophrenia.

So basically it took the FBI a full year to sell a fake bomb and fake missle to some poor lowlifes who they antagonized.

I hope we dont have to depend on the FBI to foil any 'real' plots if it took them a year to setup some retarded schizophrenic potheads.

I can't imagine the CIA or the FBI or the NSA actually lying to Congress or the American people, tho.

Vera - yup. After two trials ended with hung juries & in this one the jury deliberated for two weeks. Article on it here.
“The past cases ending in hung juries showed that the Justice Department had trouble matching the evidence with their rhetoric,” said Jonathan Turley, a professor at George Washington Law School. Professor Turley added, “It goes to show that if you try it enough times, you’ll eventually find a jury that will convict on very little evidence.”
Michael Tein, who spent five years working in the United States attorney’s office in Miami, agreed. “If you sledgehammer the square peg three times, eventually you’re going to blast it into the round hole,” Mr. Tein said. “This isn’t a terrorism case; it’s an overcharged gang case.”

like you said ceu, they would never make stuff up
innocent until proven guilty, however many times they have to try you

when did we stop being America? 1981 or 2001?

Posted by: veralynn at May 23, 2009 12:40 PM

Vera - We stopped on November 22, 1963.

The agent that led the investigation on the Terror Plot Against NY Synagogues is apparently a notorious flake. He's led over a dozen similar investigations where rather fraudulent claims were made at having solved some evil terror plot were made, but actual evidence showed that the perps wouldn't have been able to blow themselves up if you handed them a hand grenade with the pin removed. The guy specializes in framing the 'less than bright' so the FBI has something to prove that they are "keeping us safe." I forgot where I saw that.

That ties right in with Mueller coming out with his we can't bring the detainees from GitMo over here speech to Congress the other day.

Yep, the assassination that changed everything and set up the GOP to be what it is today.

From what I've read over the years is that JFK got shot because the Bush's were pissed that he destroyed their sugar business in Cuba. GB1 was CIA back then.

I was hoping Caroline or RFK Jr would be AG and they could find out the truth. I've fantasized that that would solve a lot of problems right away.

ask anyone who knows me, I am not an observant person. I consider myself to be book smart but have little street smarts. I also will do something the hard way raher than finding a short cut. So I find myself completely baffled by these people who are getting on the wrong wing talking points for every thing it is worth. If I am not the smartest person to be looking at common sense, how come these "smart" people can't see this is madness??

did that make any sense?

Posted by: veralynn at May 23, 2009 2:51 PM

Vera -

Yes it did.

I seems to me the only answer is that they are knowingly aiding and abetting the wrong wing propaganda effort. Keep track of their names and remember that they are the enemy of the people. They are supporting the status quo, which is that we have a government of the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations.

Vera - I believe I can answer your question.

I came across this book yesterday by Harry G. Frankurt. The title of the book is "On Bullshit"

http://press.princeton.edu/titles/7929.html

I believe the synopsis alone can answer your question ;

"Frankfurt proceeds by exploring how bullshit and the related concept of humbug are distinct from lying. He argues that bullshitters misrepresent themselves to their audience not as liars do, that is, by deliberately making false claims about what is true. In fact, bullshit need not be untrue at all.

Rather, bullshitters seek to convey a certain impression of themselves without being concerned about whether anything at all is true. They quietly change the rules governing their end of the conversation so that claims about truth and falsity are irrelevant. Frankfurt concludes that although bullshit can take many innocent forms, excessive indulgence in it can eventually undermine the practitioner's capacity to tell the truth in a way that lying does not. Liars at least acknowledge that it matters what is true. By virtue of this, Frankfurt writes, bullshit is a greater enemy of the truth than lies are."
