More Public Option Polling
A new poll from EBRI proves that the president's public option for healthcare is totally controversial and divisive:
Do you strongly support, somewhat support, somewhat oppose, or strongly oppose the following:Creating a new public health insurance plan that anyone can purchase:
• Strongly support—53 percent
• Somewhat support—30 percent
• Somewhat oppose—5 percent
• Strongly oppose—9 percent
83 percent support. There's no gray area there. Suck it, McMahon.

Also worth noting was who paid for this poll.. That was pretty wild.
This survey was made possible with support from AARP, American Express, Blue Cross Blue Shield Association, Buck Consultants, Chevron, Deere & Company, IBM, Mercer, National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, Principal Financial Group, Schering-Plough Corp., Shell Oil Company, The Commonwealth Fund, and Towers Perrin.
That blew me away when I read that. Not exactly a real liberal group. So for this group to pay for the poll, then actually to publish the findings as much as they lean away from what they probably really wanted them to show says a lot.

No Annette,
It just means they're going to have to spend more money buying senators and congresscritters. Sorry to be so negative about this, but at this point, I am seriously wondering if either party has any intention of actually changing anything, or if this is just some dance they are performing to squeeze more money out of their contributors.
I see mucho dragging of feet. I see Democrats waffling. I see President Obama trying his heart out to get the message through, but I don't see many in his party watching his back. Mostly, I see Republican lying, and Democrats hiding.
Washington needs an enema.

PPP, please do not discouraged. This is going to be a long fight. The Dems will not win every battle, but they will win the war. If you want change be prepared to fight like hell because power does not concede easily.

The true victors will be the people. Without people in this equation, even the Dem senators wouldn't lift a finger to change healthcare.

I don't think you people are blaming the right corporations. Most of the companies that funded this poll would actually benefit from a public health program. IBM has been begging for a public health program for more than five years.
How does Shell benefit from haveing the Aetna, The Hartford, et al making huge profits ripping everyone off for health insurance. They don't. TO them it is higher cost.
IBM just shipped 5000 high tech jobs to India because they can't afford to provide health benefits to American employees. They want public health care so they don't have to pay for health insurance anymore.
I often lump corporatists into one big pile myself because in most cases their interests are common. In this instance, however, the only corporatists benefiting from the status quo is the insurance industry. To everyone else this is an out of control cost. Look at that list again. Stodgy Blue chips and only a couple from the insurance industry.
