I just have a mason jar of local microbrew...is that okay?
Posted by: ElGoddamnMystico at June 9, 2009 8:20 PM
Dammit! Why, oh, why did I ever quit drinking alcohol?
Posted by: ZIRGAR at June 9, 2009 8:22 PM
Paper cups? You must be advocating wine in a box.
Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 9, 2009 8:31 PM
For the very nerdy...
I'm hosting a new weekly BlogTalkRadio show about visual effects starting tonight at 10pm East / 7pm West and my guest is the legendary Ron Thornton, who did VFX for Babylon 5, Star Trek : Voyager and even the original Dr. Who....

Paper cups are wasteful, Bi-ob. (just drink from the bottle.)
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 8:33 PM
I got wine in a glass, baby (far more green). And watching game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals. GO RED WINGS!!!!

>>>Paper cups? You must be advocating wine in a box.
I am, in fact, advocating Death Cab.
Posted by: Bob Cesca at June 9, 2009 8:36 PM
Adding... Box wine is the devil.
Posted by: Bob Cesca at June 9, 2009 8:37 PM
Just don't cut your lip on the foil wrapper, Jane.
Posted by: Broadway Carl™ at June 9, 2009 8:37 PM
Boone's Farm is the Devil. Box Wine is merely the Devil's minion.

Just got back from a great bike ride. 30 miles with two big climbs, and I could've looped back around and repeated the whole thing, if it weren't for the, you know, night. Tons of energy for some reason. Probably the cocktail of doping products I'm taking. ZING! Kidding.
My ride on Sunday, on the other hand, was suckery. I mean I actually yacked up part of my breakfast on a climb up this mountain called Eagle's Peak.
Posted by: Bob Cesca at June 9, 2009 8:44 PM
Is Redmond sponsoring the PTT tonight? There are women in bikinis at the top of my screen.
Posted by: Kat at June 9, 2009 8:45 PM
Bob, have you ever done the "boom box experiment" with a copy of Zaireeka?
Posted by: ZIRGAR at June 9, 2009 8:46 PM
Thanks Bob. The mental image of you throwing up your breakfast goes just perfectly with my non-boxed wine. In a glass.
Posted by: Kat at June 9, 2009 8:52 PM
Nah if it was a Redmond sponsored program, it'd be something like "I'm a Celebrity! Drop Me in a Pit of Snakes and Ants! And Live Grenades!"
And I would watch every frakking week.
Posted by: Nanotyrannus at June 9, 2009 8:55 PM
ZIRGAR:
Bob, have you ever done the "boom box experiment" with a copy of Zaireeka?
Yes. Hope you had a better experience than I did. I really couldn't get through it. Though they get an A++++++++ for effort.
Posted by: Bob Cesca at June 9, 2009 8:57 PM
They would have to be in bikinis, Nano. Breastses are very important to that boy.
Posted by: Kat at June 9, 2009 8:59 PM
Anyone on here live in NY? I used to live in Syracuse, but before that I never knew how weird (and corrupt) the NY state government is. This whole business with the dem state senators voting to caucus with the republicans... over gay marriage? Really? Gah.
Posted by: ElGoddamnMystico at June 9, 2009 8:59 PM
I am El Mystico
Long Island to be specific- with the GD awful King. Ugh! I woke up today to the news myself. I honestly had no idea just how corrupt it was up there. I am not happy with Patterson but it seems he is the least of our worries. Adding...I always found it odd that Bloomberg has to run as a Republican or Independent to win in NYC. Lately, NY and CA are not representing well for the supposedly more liberal states.
Posted by: LK at June 9, 2009 9:21 PM
What Mysty said. Who's crossing the aisle *that* way nowadays?
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 9:31 PM
Glad you had a great ride, Bob! I'm impressed with anyone who can ride any kind of distance (and with climbs!!).

LK: California's liberal only along the coast. Go fifteen miles inland and the map goes red.
Posted by: alopecia at June 9, 2009 9:31 PM
Indeed, Kat. I actually admire Redmond's appreciation of the breasticles.

Moar lurkers! Cartoon fans? Huffpo converts? Reformed trolls (R&T)? Bikers? Speak now blah blah....
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 9:55 PM
for all you Rachael Maddow haters...she just did a great piece on the china ueghars (sp) that have been held in Gitmo for years.
Posted by: jacksmom at June 9, 2009 10:02 PM
oops..spoiled that party. I like a good Pinot Grigio in a box myself.
Posted by: jacksmom at June 9, 2009 10:04 PM
You mention lurkers, jane. I've been seeing a lot of new names on the threads. Nice to see some newbies.
This is probably the first real blog/community that I've participated in. I was reluctant at first, but now I'm fearless in the face of opposition.
Come on lurkers! Let's hear from you...
Posted by: Nanotyrannus at June 9, 2009 10:06 PM
Your mom.
That is all.
Posted by: thespacecowboy at June 9, 2009 10:07 PM
Goddammnit Space, that's MY line. Also, That's what SHE said.
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 10:12 PM
Kat's team is sucking it. As in, losing to the team that beat the team she SHOULD have been pulling for. Wait, now I'm confused. This is why chicks don't do sports.
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 10:19 PM
Yeah...that!
You all make sure that the rest of us lurkers stay out of your "area of expertise"?
It is getting very difficult to be a thinking adult anymore...you kids have fun!
Posted by: jacksmom at June 9, 2009 10:25 PM
Someone here is a Rachel hater?
Posted by: Nanotyrannus at June 9, 2009 10:30 PM
anyone who says mad dog 20/20 isn't the devil has never had the pleasure of taking one sip and immediately feeling your organs being eviscerated. ah, takes me back a good one to two years. haha...oh, the comedy.
Posted by: gypsy at June 9, 2009 10:32 PM
Jacksmom, none of us is an expert on anything that I know of...all input is welcome here. I myself have given up hope of becoming a thinking adult, ever. (beware sarcasm, however.)
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 10:36 PM
Gyps! Step AWAY from the Mad Dog. The crow flies at midnight.
Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 10:39 PM
There are no Rachel Maddow "haters" here. Disagreeing with her on a few things does not equate to hating. She is still one of the best voices on TV despite her quirks.
Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 9, 2009 10:42 PM
I did your mom.
And, your taste in music sucks.
Posted by: thespacecowboy at June 9, 2009 10:44 PM
I despise Evgeni Malkin with a deep, dark passion. I would hate Marc-Andre Fleury, but I think he's sort of hot. For a young one.
Posted by: Kat at June 9, 2009 10:45 PM
Sarcasm is the first weapon. Sarcasm and snark. Beware the vicious snark will make you reel. Sometime it makes you real also too.
Facts! We hurl facts right into your face. Beware the facts of truth. It makes most wrong wing talking points melt away.
When all else fails go for comedy.
Unless you're in a mood. Then just resort to some ad hominem.
If you're too tired to type, then lurk.

Posted by: jane at June 9, 2009 10:59 PM
Okay..You might not be Rachel haters, but you are at the very least some of the most entertaining and aggrevating people on teh internets.
@ sillyratfacegit: goddamn you are funny..and right (by that I mean correct).
Posted by: jacksmom at June 9, 2009 11:00 PM
Bob, I did the Zaireeka experiment and I agree that while it wasn't the best sonic experience it certainly was an amazing experience overall. Not many bands have the cajones to put out something so uncommercial at any time, let alone when it is hanging by a thread with its record company. I wonder if we would've had any of the amazing music the Flips put out since then if it hadn't even tried Zaireeka.
Posted by: ZIRGAR at June 9, 2009 11:03 PM
I'm not a Rachel hater. I'm a Rachel LOVER!! (or wannabe, at least)
Posted by: Kat at June 9, 2009 11:03 PM
ty jacksmom. I calls 'em likes I seez 'em.
Posted by: ∇•B=0 Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git ∇•D=ρ at June 9, 2009 11:05 PM
Entertaining and aggrevating...
I cant come up with any examples of aggrevating unless exposing political asshattery dulls your entertainment.

We have had a bunch of good new posters. Some really good posts on the non open threads this week.
I didn't comment much today. By the time I got to the threads everything I would have said had already been said. I almost jumped in with nano but he had that covered without my help. Good stuff.
So I don't understand why not buying from GM because the Government owns a chunk of them makes any sense at all. Does shooting off your feet with an 8 gauge shootgun to prove a point sound like a clever plan? Are the Republicans all taking stupid pills or drinking gasoline or WTF?
Can we shove these fucktards off a cliff before they hurt someone?
Posted by: ∇•B=0 Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git ∇•D=ρ at June 9, 2009 11:14 PM
Because, Git, that's another way of punishing the working American while pretending to fight for the working American. It's win-win for the right when they can attack average, hardworking American families while appearing to help them.
Was anyone else startled to see a post by Tom Coburn on HuffPot today once again arguing for a tax credit so that Americans can buy a policy from the current health care assholes?
Posted by: Nanotyrannus at June 9, 2009 11:21 PM
You awake and totally conscious, Git?
FB's time-outs are way too long. Arghhh...
Posted by: Ady at June 9, 2009 11:23 PM
I think they were born stupid. No pills required.
Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 9, 2009 11:23 PM
Git: You really expect anything coming from Hugh Hewitt or Rush Limbaugh to make sense?
Nanotyrannus: La stupidité, ça brûle, but it didn't startle me.
(And oh boy do I hope the accented characters make it through intact, or that last comment will be utterly incomprehensible.)
Posted by: alopecia at June 9, 2009 11:29 PM
oooooooo, Git! I just got a chubby reading your lovely foaming comment on the health insurance thread. When I read all the bogus ideas thrown out by clueless, corrupt politicians, I get depressed.
Who has the best health care system? France. So copy their system and get on with it!
I can't believe they are going on about how are we going to pay for it? Here's how:
TAKE ALL THE MONEY THAT GOES TO HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES, ALL INSURANCE POLICIES THAT COVER ANY MEDICAL CONTINGENCIES LIKE AUTO, WORKMAN'S COMP, HOMEOWNER'S AND PUT IT INTO THE FEDERAL HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.
Easy. End of problem. There will probably be money left over to buy some wine.
Posted by: goddemsique at June 9, 2009 11:34 PM
emsique: Of course the French system would be cheaper, simpler, and far more humane than any Rube Goldberg compromise that will come out of Congress.
But pols have to genuflect to the Great God of the Free Market, especially if they fancy themselves "moderates," so the most we'll see (I fear) is some tinkering around the edges. And when, inevitably, it all goes pear-shaped in a few years, there will be loud cries to abandon the "failed experiment with socialism."
Great, now I've depressed myself...
Posted by: alopecia at June 9, 2009 11:45 PM
Emsique - Agreed, but the old farts in congress are too filled with pride to do that. In their minds, they would rather come up with an epic failure of an idea than copy another country, especially france.
Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 9, 2009 11:47 PM
Adding: The French system would be popular with the public, as well. The only people (as in human persons) who like the present system are those who've deluded themselves into thinking they could never lose their jobs or get screwed over by an insurance company. Oh, and there are a few glibertarians who loudly insist they shouldn't subsidize other people's sickness, but they barely qualify as people.
Posted by: alopecia at June 9, 2009 11:52 PM
The accented characters came through, but my French is limited so I had to Babel Fish it.
I'd heard recently that more and more conservatives were coming on HuffPo to spread the message, but maybe a better format would be a kind of point-counterpoint post. Let him go up against someone that advocates a public option. Let them both duke it out a bit.
He just reiterated the usual Republican plan, offering a tax cut that wouldn't begin to cover the actual cost of health care. He seemed to make some noise about guaranteed coverage no matter your health condition, but I'm pretty sure that provision would disappear quickly when opposed by the industry.
I think Bob has hit on the right formula for our side of the debate. The industry is fighting tooth and nail to make billions off of denying coverage to it's policy holders, and some in Congress are willing to fight for them.

Yes. Have been since noon.

I dislike this bashing of U.S. manufacturing workers. They don't want there to be any.

No firewall is too high for me! Badass storm knocked out the ethertubes for a day. They do make it a pain to do stuff like comment on your blog, though. I can read it with a proxy site, though!
They seem to love Bob's site, though.

Faux News has gone completely nuts. They have hired fiction writers to create the news loosely based (very, very loosely) on reality.
I think these fiction writers that Fox is using are also writing Palin's speeches.

I've said this before, but I will again: The news media here are directly censored by the government, but the final result is not that different than CNN and USA Today. And it is much more accurate and honest than Fox News.
