I just read that a movie is going to be done the band the Runaways...cool. I've always had a thing for Joan Jett.

Posted by: thruwithbuzz at June 12, 2009 8:31 PM

I should say *about* the band the Runaways.

Posted by: thruwithbuzz at June 12, 2009 8:32 PM

She still looks good today. So does Lita Ford, although Lita does look a little more worn. I would think it would be the opposite, things that make you go hhmm

Posted by: veralynn at June 12, 2009 8:35 PM

yeah, but Joan Jett will be played by Kristen Stewart, the annoying Twilight girl. and she tends to be kinda hit or miss.

Posted by: fe at June 12, 2009 8:57 PM

According to Limbaugh, if you exercise or play any sports then YOU are increasing the medical expenses of the country! Geez, guess I should drop the weight lighting. I didn't know I was hurting the country with them!

GOP : fear fear fear fear fear fear fear

It must be hard being afraid of absolutely everything.

Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 12, 2009 9:09 PM

Rush, OTOH, is a true patriot since he apparently gets no exercise at all...

Posted by: ceu at June 12, 2009 9:11 PM

wow I am going to have to agree with limpdick on this

wtf? I have said for years that exercise will kill you, now I am going to have to rethink that.

vera, nothing will happen..unless he's vulnerable, in which case you can bet his opponent will make use of that statement next year.

Posted by: Matt Osborne at June 12, 2009 9:30 PM

I posted that on FB the other day and was amazed none of you picked up on it...lol I thought it was or should have been an act of near treason or sedition to me.. but I guess not..

Undermining your country just doesn't mean as much anymore.

But yes, they are storing it away until next year when he runs for the Senate against whoever runs against Burris for Pres. Obama's former seat.

Very accurate mockery, Nano.

Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 12, 2009 9:39 PM

Remember when the only trolls were either in fairy tales or those little rubber dolls with don king-like hair and when you would push on its belly, its tongue would stick out? I kinda miss those days.

Posted by: cminri at June 12, 2009 9:40 PM

Yes, I have one of those around here somewhere...lol

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 9:45 PM

Annette, I swear I saw one of those things selling for $500 on eBay a couple years back.

Posted by: Matt Osborne at June 12, 2009 9:48 PM

(Coffeehouse applause) Brilliant, Nano.

Posted by: Matt Osborne at June 12, 2009 9:49 PM

You have got to be kidding me.. that's just wild.. I will have to look for mine.. I know it's around somewhere.. I had 3 or 4 of them at one time.. different color hair and everything.

I have one of those too. It has orange hair and wears a tartan beret.

Ashby, I don't own a troll. But it's a sign of how endemic those little fuckers got to be at some point.

Which gives me SUCH a good idea for a short story...

No, I can't even remember where I got it. Seems like it was in a box of junk I bought at a garage sale or an auction ...But my younger brother did collect them I think and he had several

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 10:04 PM

Matt, that sounded like evil glee over the story.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 10:05 PM

I used to be into weight lighting but more recently I've gotten into troll lighting.

I've been connecting dots....

When you connect the dots the picture becomes clear that Palin is an arrogant and ignorant idiotic corporate tool.

Mine was a shameless tourist purchase by my daughter on her first trip to Scotland--she knew I'd love it. I also have a larger one that I've had since I was young. My original one was stolen during recess in the first grade, something that disturbs me by still being in my brain when I have trouble remembering the simplest day to day things.

Von Brunn's son has issued a FANTASTIC statement:

"For the extremists who believe my father is a hero: it is imperative you understand what he did was an act of cowardice," Erik von Brunn wrote. "To physically force your beliefs onto others with violence is not brave, but bullying. Doing so only serves to prove how weak those beliefs are. It is simply desperation, reminiscent of a temper tantrum when a child cannot get his way. Violence is a cop out; an easy answer for an ignorant problem."

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 10:16 PM

I had a really good chuckle tonight during dinner when I saw the clip of Palin saying that Letterman's jokes "represent what is wrong with society".

It was so stupid I have trouble even typing it.

The fact that Palin is on TV, is even a subject, got elected to office, is taken seriously by any living soul... THAT represents what is wrong with society. She would still be just another slutty flight attendant if not for her Media Overlords.

Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 12, 2009 10:17 PM

The wingnuts will call Von Brunn's son ungrateful or something equally stupid. I'm glad he spoke out.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 10:17 PM

What an awesome statement Matt, thank you for sharing that. Sounds like he didn't follow in his father's footsteps.

I've decided that my first politician vibrator will be a likeness of Governor Palin.

It will have removable Arctic Cat snowsportswear made of latex rubber.

I've decided that in addition to the speed settings slow, medium, fast, and drill baby drill, it will need some sound tracks like "Now I'm really fucking you, you betcha", "Reading is hard also too", "Drill me baby and such as."

This vibrator will will sold under the brand name The Palinator® because it just won't quit.

Speaking of social networking: turns out the profitability of MySpazz was completely over-stated. WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THAT COMING??!! [/snark]

I have to say that we traced the IP's after last night's stuff.

It all pointed to Vera. If she (he) was not the poacher.... then I offer my apologies. I don't give one fuck if you accept it or not.

Has anyone ever watched the History Channel's "After People"?

It is creepy and disturbing. They are looking at Las Vegas and Atlantic City. They keep saying "In the times of humans"

I can't stop watching though. Cats are going to take over Atlantic City.

Posted by: veralynn at June 12, 2009 10:33 PM

vera, I collect post-apocalyptic movies/ documentaries/ books/ whatever. That's one of my faves.

Posted by: Matt Osborne at June 12, 2009 10:36 PM

Hielo, it that is you--it's hard to tell anymore--there is no way Vera would do that shit.

And how does one "not give one fuck" and offer apologies in the same sentence?

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 10:38 PM

I have no idea why Palin is even bothering. None of her supporters are likely Letterman fans. And none of Letterman's fans are likely Palin supporters. The most she can hope for is that he'll be gentle as he taunts the shit out of her.

But we know that group. They love to be indignant victims about everything, beset on all sides by evil that would love to suppress their constitutional right to do whatever they've interpreted it to allow them to do this week.

I think Letterman should angrily demand an apology from the Palins for pretty much calling him a pedophile on national tv.

Posted by: Nanotyrannus at June 12, 2009 10:39 PM

Vera - Saw the promos but haven't watched it. Looks to me like a Rapture infommercial.

Posted by: J M Goddamn Ashby at June 12, 2009 10:41 PM

Matt--I usually like post-apocalyptic stuff too, but this is creepy.

Although, I am still watching so it can't be too creepy lol

Posted by: veralynn at June 12, 2009 10:43 PM

Cat are cool and they don't sell crack.

I saw that show. It was pretty cool. The part that disturbed me was that humans just went away and they never say where they went. They just went. For some reason that bugged me. I kept asked "Did everyone drop dead from a pandemic." "Did we invent a beam me somewhere else Scotty machine and we all left." "WTF, Where did we go?"

Posted by: ∇•B=0  Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ at June 12, 2009 10:43 PM

Nano, that's not a bad idea. She did indeed call him a pedophile. He would be playing their game but that may be all they understand.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 10:43 PM

Vera, can I put little shoes on him like the one with purple hair?

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 10:44 PM

Yeah. It is me for now. The next post will probably be by a poacher.

I sure hope you are right about Vera. i was really starting to like her.... and a bunch of you people.( Yeah. I know I need some lessons in proper.....what..everything?)

Posted by: veralynn at June 12, 2009 10:45 PM

Matt,

I love your blog.

Posted by: Mike H. at June 12, 2009 10:48 PM

I still think we should all make sure we watch or at least have a tee vee turned onto Letterman for at least the next week, just because Steele called for a boycott.

With cable they will pick up the signal and it will boost his ratings if everyone has their tee vee on for the next week and blow them out of the water, instead of boycotting it will backfire on Palin and Steele.

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 10:49 PM

I think we are asswipe free tonight Hielo.

Of course that can change.

Posted by: ∇•B=0  Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ at June 12, 2009 10:49 PM

Accessories. How cool is that.

Do you think DVRing Letterman gives it a hit like watching? If it helps the cause I'll even watch it without zipping through the commercials. That would be a large sacrifice but I would do it if there is evidence that someone knows it was done.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 10:52 PM

Good idea Annette, I'll do that.

Nano -

She will never apologize. Dave should ask for one. Hell, he's got money, he should hit her with a defamation suit. He probably would not win, but the legal process would teach her to be more careful what she says. She deserves a bitchslap for the "Pallin' around with terrorists" bullshit.

I expect Dave to flay her mercilessly anyway.

Posted by: ∇•B=0  Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ at June 12, 2009 10:55 PM

Mike: thanks for reading!

Posted by: Matt Osborne at June 12, 2009 10:56 PM

sorry Kat

I must say the last week has been interesting on my news feed. You and Ryan and a couple of other friends rooting for Detroit, while a few of my other friends rooting for the pens. It has been fun reading all the comments.

Posted by: veralynn at June 12, 2009 10:57 PM

Even DVRing will work.. it still shows up on the cable signal.. and that's what they get the ratings from.

You wouldn't have to watch unless you just wanted to. lol

I probably won't..I am not a big Letterman fan, but I am going to set mine in the front room to at least have it on just to get the ratings so I can override his boycott..lol

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 10:58 PM

Agreed, Annette. I'll set my tv to Letterman while I'm brushing my teeth, etc., just because.

Not that we should be surprised by Palin's reaction. This is exactly the way she has behaved since getting in the public spotlight. What a whiny two-faced bitch.

Posted by: Kat at June 12, 2009 11:01 PM

DVR it will be. I like Letterman. I miss his old "underground" days when he came on at 1 AM and was watched only by the young. But I still like him when I catch clips.

Posted by: dontpanic23 at June 12, 2009 11:01 PM

I'm Conan all the way. Is it a new day in Iran yet?

Posted by: Mike H. at June 12, 2009 11:03 PM

miss his old "underground" days when he came on at 1 AM and was watched only by the young

me too, you weren't cool if you didn't watch him back then. he was very outrageous for regular teevee

Posted by: veralynn at June 12, 2009 11:04 PM

And just to throw my two cents in on a topic from the beginning of the thread: physically, Kristen Stewart looks a lot like a young Joan Jett, especially with the hair cut. I hope she can pull it off, because even the Twi-hards might not be able to save her career if she butchers Joan Jett.

Posted by: Kat at June 12, 2009 11:04 PM

He was, Vera. He made Carson seem like an old man (and I loved Carson--not cracking on him). I do need to catch Conan while he's fresh.

Conan was the head writer of Dave's 1:00 am show.

He stayed at NBC when Dave moved to CBS after telling Dave that he was going to move with him. NBC made him an offer he could not refuse. This was intended as a torpedo to Dave's CBS show.

Posted by: Mike H at June 12, 2009 11:13 PM

Maybe this is the start of something good?

A federal judge has ruled that John Yoo, a former Bush administration lawyer who wrote crucial memorandums justifying harsh interrogation techniques, will have to answer in court to accusations that his work led to a prisoner’s being tortured and deprived of his constitutional rights. The government had asked Judge Jeffrey S. White of Federal District Court in San Francisco to dismiss the case filed by Jose Padilla, an American citizen who spent more than three years in a military brig as an enemy combatant. Judge White denied most elements of Mr. Yoo’s motion and quoted a passage from the Federalist Papers that in times of war, nations, to be more safe, “at length become willing to run the risk of being less free.”

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 11:29 PM

J M GD Ashby -

Some. Not all. I'm not a fan of the Hostel movies although I greatly admire the special effects. Those lack the black comedy aspect that I think makes a good horror flick. Another example is "The Hills have Eyes" and its sequel. I intensely dislike those two.

The TX Chainsaw Massacre was the first really good film of its genre. A genre that it created. There was nothing even remotely like it before. "Mark of the Devil" was a push towards that genre but did not get there. The Romero "Night of the Living Dead" could be considered a forerunner and Romero went on to make slasher flicks every bit as good as TX Chainsaw Massacre, but TX Chainsaw Massacre gets credit for setting the new standards for a new genre. In 1974 it really shocked people. Even me. I'm not easily shocked. It was way beyond my expectations. The really cool thing about the movie is that it is really not very bloody. You just think it is because your moind fills in stuff that the director does not actually show. The Rob Zombie films are way more bloody, but special effects are so much better now and everything can be made to look real.

TX Chainsaw Massacre was made with a surprisingly low budget. Zombie had much larger budgets to make "House of 1000 Corpses" and "Devils Rejects"

Laffy & Paddy have one of the best posts up about the president and the decisions he is making and catching hell for I have ever seen. It is written by an attorney with the government and it is something that everyone really needs to read and think about. It kinda goes along with what Bob was saying a week or so ago when he was talking about pragmatism, but this takes it a step farther.

While not a slasher film, "Dead and Breakfast" is one of the greatest movies of all time. Like Shaun of the Dead set in a small Texas town.

Shaun of the Dead was outstanding. What a laugh riot. I was literally ROLFLMAO watching that one.

Posted by: ∇•B=0  Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ at June 12, 2009 11:52 PM

I do too.. Like I said I just hope it is the start of something. I believe if we can just get a precedent of these guys showing up in court testifying about torture it can open the door and the others will then have to go through too.

Of course I could be dreaming too...lol

Posted by: Annette at June 12, 2009 11:56 PM

I thought Shaun of the Dead was the shiznit, and then I rented Dead and Breakfast. I thought it the better film. Plug the title in YouTube, there's a clip of the movie's "Thriller" scene. Priceless.

Speaking of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz was awesome.
