Right Is Left, Up Is Down

I don't even know what to say about this.

Briefly, the wingnuts are claiming that white supremacists are liberal. Yep. Because white supremacists are such dirty effing hippies. You know who else was super liberal? Attila the Hun. And Hitler was totally into same-sex marriage and against torture.

We don't really need any more evidence that the far-right is seizing upon the stupidity of its audience.

I guess the good news is that the white supremacists might be dumb enough to believe the wingnuttia. Maybe we'll start pulling in some confused-white-supremacist votes on the cheap.

"...seizing upon the stupidity of its audience."

Brilliant! I could have used that line quite a few times the past few years Bob, quit holdin' out bro!

Posted by: JackDanieL at June 12, 2009 9:35 AM

Bob, did you see Andrew Breitbart's freakout at Gawker? He called John Cook and left a voicemail cursing up a storm and saying he was really insulted that the left was making this a political attack against the real right wing extremists like, well Breitart!

"It's such a fucking slander on people like me. This guy's political philosophy is more akin to the drivel that you hear on a college campuses that delineates us by group and not by individuality....
It's deeply offensive that you would use this for political gain."

Here's the kicker:

James von Brunn was a "multiculturalist just like the black studies and the lesbian studies majors on college campuses."

Go to Gawker for the full voicemail audio. What a nutjob!

Posted by: Broadway Carl™ at June 12, 2009 9:53 AM

Adding... They want to stay as far away from this as possible, so they are the ones politicizing it and calling Von Brunn left wing.

And the lemmings are all falling for it. Goldberg and his "Liberal Facism" book did more to squeeze whatever brains remained out of the right (to our benefit) than anything else in the last year. And if Glenn Beck says it, it must be true, although he constantly claims "don't listen to me."

They are self destructing. I almost feel like we're watching Darwinism upfront and personal. We are seeing a species that is so stupid, it cannot survive.

Posted by: Broadway Carl™ at June 12, 2009 9:59 AM

This is the equivalent of a child putting their hands over their ears and shouting "Nyah nyah nyah, nyah, nyah, I can't hear you!" The level of denial (and stupidity) here is staggering.

My favourite right-is-left argument from the wingnuts is that Hitler and his fellow Nazis were lefties...because because the party name has the word 'socialism' in it. Well, North Korea's official name is the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, but as anyone with a brain knows, it's nothing remotely like a democratic state.

Posted by: Skippy at June 12, 2009 10:08 AM

Haven't any of you read a history book? We totally fought the Nazis in WWII to save Europe from Hitler's liberal/progressive agenda. And how did France thank us? They became a fucking socialist country that hates us and wouldn't help us fight the islamofascists!!

Posted by: Nanotyrannus at June 12, 2009 11:05 AM

If the National Socialists were lefty socialists, then the Irish Republican Army must be Republicans, according to their logic. The Democratic People's Republic of Korea must be BOTH Democrats and Republicans. So is East Germany, the former German Democratic Republic. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics were BOTH socialist AND Republican, it's in their NAME!

I mean, a violent racist anti-semitic neo-Nazi? Must be a flaming liberal. Come on!

Its called deflection; whatever comes at them they turn it around, slick as shit, with no thought, reason, or guilt. We watched Tom DeLay do it a thousand times on Chris Mathews, while the host sat there fawning over him

As usual, I stop in to reaffirm that I'm not insane and I get the validation I'm looking for. Then I go and strain my neck from nodding in fierce agreement. Bob Cesca: You rule.

And .............. do they ever learn?

Obviously not! Just the day after this shit Eric Cantor gets busy comparing Obama to Putin:

http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/local/article/CANTGATER11_20090611-185601/273306/

And then sticks by his words:

http://www.timesdispatch.com/rtd/news/state_regional/state_regional_govtpolitics/article/CANT12_20090612-003001/273469/

And yet I'm sure if some wacko tries to assassinate Obama it will surely be the fault of the left!

Posted by: kansasdem at June 12, 2009 12:14 PM

You won't like my explanation, Bob, but your party's history, especially in the south, is absolutely racist left-wing. There can be no denying that.

Nowadays, we don't see so much of that, but historically, it has been Christian conservatives who have fought for the rights of Jews and minorities. Your party, in the South, basically did everything it could, short of braiding the rope for the KKK, to stop the Civil Rights Movement.

People don't forget those things, Bob. Especially not when the Left continually calls conservative Christians racist, as if your party wants to act as though none of that ever happened.

If you are going to try and portray the extremists as a part of the base of the Right, then some backlash for your history is necessarily going to link the rest of your party with groups like the KKK. It's unavoidable.

I don't think either party wants anything to do with extremist groups. But the rhetoric in this nation for the last decade and a half has created this mess. You cannot call Christian Conservatives 'racist' and not expect to be called out on your own tawdry history.

Thirty-five years ago, Mr. von Brunn most definitely would have been a southern Democrat.

Relax, Bob, I think he hates the republicans every bit as much as he hates our jew-lovin asses.

Wow.

Just wow.

Nice way to ignore some history and the change in the Democratic party in the last 40+ years.

But, revisionism or choosing/ignoring which part of history to use in an argument on is a winner.

For some, shades of grey exist in ideology. I guess for others it’s just a black and white world.

Posted by: thespacecowboy at June 12, 2009 1:00 PM

Cowboy,

I'm not espousing these views. I'm just explaining how the Right comes by them.

ppp...

Please do me a favor in the future and clearly indicate that you're not! I enjoy reading your comments since you're able to provide a different perspecitve occasionally.

I thought you jumped the shark on this one.

Posted by: thespacecowboy at June 12, 2009 1:11 PM

PPP -

You know they were called dixiecrats for a reason don't you?

You would smear the entire Democratic Party for the fact that some Democrats in the south were racist rednecks. Did you not know that Republicans in the south were also racist rednecks?

I agree that the dixiecrats became the party of slavery. But north of the Mason and Dixon line the people running the underground railroad were predominantly Democrats.

Your logic is flawed. I found some racists in the party so the whole party is racist.

Doesn't fly. This is one of the more offensive comments you've made. In our lifetime, the racist fascist scumbags have all been republicans.

List of Racist, Fascist, Scumbag Democrats.

Strom Thurmond
Jesse Helms
George Wallace
Jerry Falwell (Christofascist Magnifico)

Wait? What? They're all Republicans?

You have an uncanny ability to fly right past the point and wind up in nitpickville.

You only had to go back to the 1850s to refute Bob's point. Yeah, everyone remembers the dixiecrats. Hell, most of these republicans can't remember last week so I can't exactly expect them to remember the 19th century much. History is boring.

Way to live in the past, PPP. If this were the 1950's and 60's you might have a point. But it's 2009. To what political affiliation do the Christian Conservatives espouse? Show me the KKK Democrats of 2009, the same Democratic Party of which 85% of the African American population belong.

The current Democratic Party isn't what it was 50 years ago just as the Republican Party can no longer claim to be the Party of Lincoln. It's called evolution.

This is why you come across as disingenuous even on the rare occasion when you say something logical. What a bunch of bullshit.

If you continue to use the deceitful propaganda techniques of the opposition, then I will treat you the same way I treat any deceitful propagandizing conman.

We already have Rush, Bill, Sean, and Glenn to cherry pick facts and tell partial stories to mislead. We don't need any more of this garbage.

Posted by: ∇•B=0  Goddamn Silly Ratfaced Git  ∇•D=ρ at June 12, 2009 1:27 PM

Git,

It's not my logic, it's just history.

Nor do I espouse tarring the entire tree with one branch that fell to the ground. But, in correcting some of the history, as recently as the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the southern Democrats were still as racist as the day is long. I doubt that as soon as the CRA was signed, every one of the racists changed overnight.

So, to clarify, I do not think the Democratic party is racist, nor do I think the Democratic party should be tarred by a few racists.

That said, neither should the republican party be tarred because of a few extremists.

Git, you cannot have it both ways. You cannot call out your opponent as racist, tarring the entire party as such, and not expect backlash.

Frankly, I don't think you can call extremists any 'wing'. They are just terrorist hate groups. They do not represent any interest but their own narrow definitions. If I were a Righty, but I disagreed with them, they'd hate me as much as the target of their hate.

I guess the best thing I could call them would be hate groups.

The Right is wrong in trying to call them Leftys. But I do not think you can call them righties, either. They resemble NAZI's. And who here believes that if they ever came to power, they'd resemble the small government loving, capitalistic Righties? Nope, we'd have the second coming of the third reich...or would that make them the fourth reich? In essence, we would have a totalitarian regime, with its tentacles in every aspect of our lives. That resembles neither party.

They're not the Democratic Party's base now. It doesn't matter what it was 40 years ago -it's totally irrelevant to what's going on today.

The only reason racists supported the Democratic Party at all was because the Republican Party under Lincoln ended slavery. After a Democratic president passed the Civil Rights Act, the South has been solidly red. Which means that all the racists are now staunch Republicans, which is a right wing party last I checked.

Posted by: Skippy at June 12, 2009 1:32 PM

Trust me on this one, Carl and Git, I'm the only one here right now who can see this from an entirely unprejudiced perspective.

Posted by: ɹədoodʎʇɹɐdlɐɔıʇılod at June 12, 2009 1:32 PM

Okay. We trust you.

...Jeez...

Posted by: Broadway Carl™ at June 12, 2009 1:45 PM

The Left tries to point out that a DHS report was accurate, and there is a possibility of more extremist domestic terrorism.

The Right tries to blame it all on the Left.

Way to go, Repubes. Way to go.

I think this piece by Greenwald explains all that needs to be said about the wingnut mindset. It's all about them...

Name one left wing hate group. Just one.

Left wing extremists hand out joints at concerts and use guns as bongs. The only ammo they own is cannabis based.

@ Git...not necessarily a "hate" group, but ELF has done some damage. Their brand of eco-terroism has no place.
