Save Health Care In Less Than 4 Minutes

My new video; not slick but more complete. And I'd LOVE your comments on whether this kind of experimental format is effective. The whole script is after the jump. Shoutout to BC at the end.

Max Baucus for Busy People

Hi, my name is Lee Stranahan and like I mention in all these videos, I'm an uninsured husband and father, unemployed, and I'm taking on the health care industry.

There's some really important stuff going on with Health Care right now. I've made a few slick little :30 videos but I wanted to do a quick summary because this is too important to just rely on soundbites.

Here' Max Baucus - he's a Democratic Senator from Montana...

He's not really that famous but he's powerful - he's the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee and right now he's a huge threat to health care reform...

As I point out in my other videos, Senator Baucus has gotten more money from health, insurance and drug lobbyists than anyone else in congress...

Now, you have to understand that there's a big scam going on right now- a trick that you have to be aware of.

The health lobbyists are counting on the American people not really paying too much attention to the health care bill as it makes it's way through Congress. They know that most people are busy with careers and their families and life in general...

But the health lobbyists and people like Senator Baucus know that huge numbers of people want health care reform.

So here's the trick...the health lobby and the polticans they've paid off don't say they are opposed to health care reform....

Nope - they talk like they LOVE health care reform. They talk about it all the time. They figure that if they say they want to reform health care - just like everyone does...then people like me and you won't know what they are up to.

But what THEY mean by health care reform isn't really reform at all.

So Senator Baucus is helping create a bill with things like 'Co-Ops' - another trick word. Sounds very touchy feely but it's really going to be the health industry running things. And Senator Baucus wants to force most people to buy insurance...something the insurance companies would obviously love.

And this is all happening under the radar - they just hope you don't even notice.

Now, here's the thing - this is about the corrupting power of money in poltics

These health, insurance and drug companies aren't stupid - they pay this money to people like Max Baucus because it buys them something. They spend millions and millions of dollars and they do it because it's good investment for them.

So - here's the question...what can regular people like you and me do about this?

I think there are two things we can do - number one, we can get informed and talk about health care reform. I can make videos like this and upload them to YouTube. So can you, really - making videos isn't hard and if you check back at my website, I'll do some videos to show you how.or you just email videos to other people or you can blog about it or just TALK about it to your friends and family.

And you can talk about it to the press - most of them are on Twitter now. Send them a tweet and say you want them to talk about Max Baucus, how the health lobby is paying him and how you want real health reform.

Number two - we can flood Senator Baucus's office with phone calls. Don't bother sending a letter - because of security after 9/11, letters take forever. You can email and that's not a bad idea.

But a phone call is quick, effective and probably free for you. I don't pay for long distance calls from my cell and neither do you probably. Be polite but tell Senator Baucus that you're a citizen, you know he takes a lot of lobbyist money and you want real health care reform - not the watered down bill he's going to try to pass. Then tell your friends and family to call....

I started this campaign about health reform because it's effecting me and my friends personally. I know so many people can't get insured or whose rates went up 29% in a year or how have horror stories about being denied coverage. I decided not to wait for political groups to make a commercial so I decided to make my own.

The clock is ticking on this. Join me, please. Use your own voice. We're at an amazing time in history - Twitter, YouTube, all the free tools to communicate. I believe we can win this and get health care reform....but what I know for sure is; we have to try.

Wow. Dude. Seriously. This is some serious kick ass.

Since these are youtube videos, a four minute format is very effective. You have time to develop the story with adequate detail to really make the point.

I really, really like this. I'm embedding it at my blog.

Kickass, Lee. I just rated it on Youtube.

I was confused after watching your video. You're pretty clear about what you DON'T want, the health industry running things (I guess?) But I couldn't determine what you ARE in favor of, besides discussion. Ok, so the polls are saying a lot of Independents want a public option. Do you, or not? (You do realize that if there is a public option, Obama will see to it that the government option will be so low priced that the public insurance companies will be forced out of business, right? He doesn't want any private industry to survive, least of all public health care.)

You also say, "Listening to remarks from members of Congress, talk radio maniacs or the cable news people, you'd think the public option was more dangerous and controversial than late-term abortions." So am I to infer from this that you ARE in favor of the public option? So where DO you stand on the public option? Do you want (surely not!) the federal government to run it? You never say in your video, and if it's implied, it's too hard to pick up. What is "REAL health reform"?

Well, you asked for feedback on your video. That's mine. You're not clear at all what you are encouraging people to advocate, besides discussion. That's a great idea, but I get the feeling you want to tell your viewers what kind of reform the health care issue needs. Just remember, that if the federal government takes over the health care industry, you WILL pay for your health care in one way or another. Either out of your pocket in taxes, or pain and misery while you wait for services, or pain and misery when you are denied a procedure you need because according to the federal bureaucracy, you caused it yourself through neglect, or you're too old and it isn't cost effective to treat you.

Great video, Lee. I especially like that you give us instructions on what we can do. Helps us to feel empowered instead of helpless.

There's a typo in the text frame after the picture of your daughter and the car. Needs to say "was" instead of "as."

Excellent summary of the propaganda being promulgated by the insurance industry. There is no evidence to support any of those statements. I don't trust the insurance lobby to give me good information about health care when they are the ones responsible for the very dismal condition of our Health Care system.

The only people who think our health care system is working are people who pay cash because they can afford it and people who have never actually needed their insurance to cover anything major. The evidence that the system is broken can be found everywhere. Reform is coming, because it has to. The only question is will the reform be what is needed, or will the reform be a useless canard dictated by the insurance lobby.

Since you are aware of information provided by one side of the debate, you should read information from the other side the Physicians for a National Health Program have gathered much evidence on this issue. They have all taken an oath to heal the sick and do no harm. The only promise the insurance companies are making is to operate at a profit. I don't want them in my heath care system. They are a legalized protection racket.

Hello Lee, I read Cesca every day, and I think you're both doing great things. Especially with this. But you have to know... if you're gonna rip up Senator Baucus, you'd better start pronouncing his name correctly in your videos, or you'll quickly lose credibility here in the great Treasure State. It's BOK-us, like bok choy; the vegetable (how appropo). The way you say it, it sounds like you come from South Boston. I oughta know, cuz I come from there. So keep up the good work. And yes, I will email the Senator, and give him my opinion; but I can't blog, text, tweet or anything else. Gotta work up to those things. But thanks for motivating me.
