Go... Peggy Noonan?
Via John Cole, here's Peggy Noonan on Sarah Palin:
“The elites hate her.” The elites made her. It was the elites of the party, the McCain campaign and the conservative media that picked her and pushed her. The base barely knew who she was. It was the elites, from party operatives to public intellectuals, who advanced her and attacked those who said she lacked heft. She is a complete elite confection. She might as well have been a bonbon.“She makes the Republican Party look inclusive.” She makes the party look stupid, a party of the easily manipulated.
“She shows our ingenuous interest in all classes.” She shows your cynicism.
“Now she can prepare herself for higher office by studying up, reading in, boning up on the issues.” Mrs. Palin’s supporters have been ordering her to spend the next two years reflecting and pondering. But she is a ponder-free zone. She can memorize the names of the presidents of Pakistan, but she is not going to be able to know how to think about Pakistan. Why do her supporters not see this? Maybe they think “not thoughtful” is a working-class trope!
I never thought I'd write this, but Noonan is spot on.
Stand by for the wingnut loud noises any second now: Boycott! Boycott! We want our next doof candidate!

Here's some wingnut noise directly from Redding, CA (from letters to the editor yesterday in the local rag - clearly this man has lost his friggin mind):
Palin: Still my hero
Gov. Sarah Palin is a hero to me. I love her and have listened to her speech and reasons for leaving office. She made perfect sense to me.
She has accomplished incredible things for Alaska and done it in a bipartisan way and will not let the scumbags who continue to attack her and cause her state to pay for this stupidity that the attackers are costing the state.
She wants to work for Alaska and America outside of elected office. I have a feeling she and my favorite American (Gingrich) are cooking something good up.
I respect her decisions and understand that she is shutting down the attack dogs who fear her and hate her from the left.
She gave a speech that Obama couldn't give in two lifetimes.
She is a patriotic conservative and that plays into my beliefs. I agree with all of her positions.

Yeah - I'd have to go along with that. Maybe if he was falling down drunk. Probably not even then.
I think the straw that broke Ms. Noonan's back was the sight of Palin in hip waders, decked out in full 'airline hostess' makeup. That certainly did wonders for me.

Peggy Noonan helped create this Palin adoration...I am not sure I can forgive her enough to give her any props yet. But glad she vocalized what is the truth at this time at least!

"She made perfect sense to me."
You may be the only one. I guess you're special or maybe you are just on the right psychotropic medication.
"She has accomplished incredible things for Alaska..."
Name one.
"I respect her decisions and understand that she is shutting down the attack dogs who fear her and hate her from the left."
First, they don't hate so much as they hate incompetence. As a Governor she is a total disaster. It's normal to criticize Governors that are fucking up the state you live in.
Second, The Mudflats, Girl from Homer, Blue Oasis, The Immoral Minority, Progressive Alaska, and all the other bloggers in AK that have been her critics are far from shut down. She quit, they're still going strong. Shannyn Moore is going to ream her a new asshole.
So you admire quitters. I'm so happy for you.

"Ponder-free zone" --I love it. Noonan could have gone one step further, that the elites made Palin to fool the base into thinking the GOP represents their interests (ie the social conservative issues) instead of their real aim which is to promote corporations and the rich.

I wholeheartedly agree with Noonan, especially the last part where she explains that the world is too dangerous to have a flake like Palin for President. These are serious times and we need a serious and competent president.
I don't know what that guy in Redding is smoking but he has lost his mind.

I think Noonan is not only insulted by Palin as a Republican conservative, but as a woman. She can't stand her incuriousness, her arrogance and her stupidity.
Seven in ten GOP conservatives still want to see Palin as a leader, even after her latest flake out. As a liberal Democrat, so do I.

One of the most satisfying things about the whole Palin saga is watching her get eviscerated by female right-wingers like Noonan and Kathleen Parker. And it's hilarious to watch wingnut males like Kristol embarrass themselves by continuing to stick by her.

Palin reminds me of an issue of Judge Dredd where Mega-City One elects a baboon as mayor.

The only problem is.. Bill Kristol, Hannity, Limbaugh and the guys are winning out over Peggy Noonan, Katherine Parker and the level headed women of the Conservative Republicans who see Palin for what she is.
Those of us on the left who see Palin for what she is and call her out, get accused of being jealous of her and hating her, I am not guilty of either.
I am only afraid that there are enough people in the country like John E. Cleckner Sr. from Redding and other places that will get discouraged reading idiotic stuff about how the Stimulus isn't working, health care is dying in congress, unemployment is going to go through the roof and so they will think the Democrats have failed once again and so here comes Palin, and good looking charismatic leader, and yes, in ways she is, who is everything Pres. Obama isn't and guess what, we have a new President in 2012 named Sarah Palin.
That scares the hell out of me. That's how we got George Bush for 8 years, so don't think it couldn't happen...

Palin is "mentally-challenged," and anyone who likes/admires/agrees with her is too.
A reality re-alignment is needed for these people, but that will (sadly) never happen.
However, Balin' Palin is not a "complete" idiot! Some parts are missing. Hay-oh!! LOL!
"Lovetheblue" (1st response above) posted a letter from a perfect example of the "mentally-challenged" Balin' Palin-lover: John Cleckner. IMO, these guys don't give a rat's ass what she stands for/says/does, etc. They're just horny as hell for her. I swear that's true.
And Bob, I'm with you completely re: Peggy Noonon. Usually I dislike her, and find her esoteric speech patterns so irritating that I can't listen to her.
However, this from her I really like.
And I give her "mad props" for saying the TRUTH!! - AJ in MN
