The Big Lie
ThinkProgress assembled a compilation video featuring many, if not all examples of the "Obama wants to kill old people" lie I wrote about in my Huffington Post column this week:
The Republican Party and the wingnut talkers are absolutely perpetrating a fraud against senior citizens. I mean, it's not even vaguely accurate. Sometimes, in political debates, a law or proposal is extrapolated for rhetorical or persuasive reasons, but in this case what the wingnut right is saying is, in fact, the exact opposite of what the law says.

I have a fair understanding of the first amendment and all it entails, but this, to me, seems to veer close to the 'yelling fire in a crowded theater' scenario.
It seems like there should be a legal basis for shutting this type of crap down. If, for instance, these same people and 'news' organizations were spreading falsehoods about non-existent terrorist attacks here in this country in an effort to sway their constituents and viewers to a particular political point of view, I have to believe that DHS would be all over them, and not in a gentle way. I should think certain folks would be locked up pretty quick.

I'm re-reading my first comment and am thinking it probably sounds laughably naive. I dunno. I think I'll put on another pot of coffee....

Not "laughably" naive, but...clearly the last eight years are proof that lying about the terrorist threat to get people in line with your politics is NOT a punishable offense.

First, I heard Sean Hannity call the Blue Dogs, Lap Dogs yesterday because they switched to the Democratic side of the issue. Why in the fuck would you ever side with the GOP if they will smear you the second you switch sides on an issue?
Second, how in Zues' name did the MINORITY PARTY manage to slow this thing down? Obama's numbers are going down a little but the Public Option is dying while the GOP are filling their war chests with campaign contributions. This is horrible for the President and most of the House Democrats if they don't pass the most LIBERAL COMMUNIST SOCIALIST MARKIST healthcare bill possible. Someone please take one of Nancy's balls and give it to Harry Reid for the love of Thor.
Sorry, haven't had my coffee yet.
Also, I know that Medicare is very popular but for FSM's sake the only one saying anything about the public OPTION is Obama. Where the fuck are the other 270 elected Democratic leaders?

A lot was made of the two polls that came out yesterday - the one by NPR and the NBC/WSJ poll. Both had similar results regarding how people felt about the current state of health reform legislation, with a larger (somewhere around 49%) share going to those who were dissatisfied with it. At first I thought this meant those people were drifting to the repub side, and then realized that, had I been asked that question without any way to qualify my answer, I would have said I was dissatisfied with the current state of things.

That's awesome, but it was something like 10 talking heads/legislators lying their asses off with just one guy, the President, refuting them with "aw, naw, that's not going to happen." People like that caller don't trust the islamo-fascist/communist/marxist/grey-pouponing/not-even-born-in-America! President, but they completely trust that Romulan.
Where are the rest of the Democrats? And I don't want them to over-explain what the law says, I want them to say plain and simple "the Republicans are lying to you. LYING!" The Republicans are on message with "they're coming for your granny!" and the Democrats are responding with "well, what it refers to, is, you know, well Medicare already provides some end-of-life services so you can, look, it's... you get help making a living will, and no one, is... no - " FOR THE LOVE OF GOD (THOR AND ALL THE FUCKING OTHER ONES TOO), JUST SAY THEY ARE FUCKING LYING!

All fucking right!!!
We have figured out the problem. We need to start a "TALKING" Campaign from the rest of the spineless Democrats. Very simple answers to people's problems at town halls over the August break might actually generate some goddamn support for the public option.
If only we had a professional blogger/author/Huffington post writer to help us.
Also, I wish I knew a guy that makes MoveOn videos that could help.

There are plenty of Democrats talking about the public option. You just don't see them. Sanders and Kucinich have been talking single payer and public option for months. Sanders has been on MSNBC a few times and Kucinich does not exist according to our corporate propaganda dispensers.
The opposition controls the media. What the fuck did you expect? They are feeding you all the propaganda they can crank.
You have to ignore the corporate tools and get your information from reliable sources.
