The Enemy Within?
by Lee Stranahan
At the risk of making Bob's brains fly out of his head and sending SillyGit into a coronary, I submit the following video from the group with a bubbly name and website "Healthy Economy Now!' - it's called 'Road'. Watch...
Okay - I saw this on CNN a couple of days ago. I thought it was a shill group because of the 'government takeover' bullshit. It's pure fear words based on the lie the insurance lobby would love you to believe...so I researched. And now with the President's statement, I conclude....
This is very very bad.
Ben Smith in Politico reports the group is "a coalition that's close to the White House, is up with a new ad supporting Obama's plan." And the message IS the White House position; same wording and everything. It's a sucky, awful, going to screw us over position, too.
Who's in the 'coalition'? Groups like the SEIU (okay, a union...good), the AMA (well, okay...doctors) and Blue Cross / Blue Shield, (WTF WTF WTF?!?!) Read all of them here.
Very serious question - is the White Houser the actual enemy of real health care reform?

Dunno, Lee. Nothing in the ad screams "kill the public option," and the "some want government to take over health care" line might be a way of standing to the right of single-payer -- setting the public option as the political center.

Except there are plenty of people saying that The Public Option IS a government takeover.
And - who is calling for 'a government takeover'? Why use that phrasing or characterization at all?
And why is the SEIU putting their money in with Blue Cross?

The President's position on theis issue has always been a corporate tool position The only proper answer is to remove the insurance companies from the health care system. They are the problem. They are not the only problem, but they are the biggest problem. Get rid of them.
We have more support for single payer now than we have had ever before. All of this talk about opposition to a public option is bullshit and propaganda. We've seen the polls. Most people think that a public option is a "single payer" system. It is not but most people think that it is. I can't find anyone that does not support a single payer system.
Our president wants to allow the insurance companies to keep making a profit on my 'health'.
I'm still waiting for someone to show me how a free market system designed to optimize the manufacturing of widgets is going to optimize my health when my health is actually an externality to the model. I'm fed up with this horrendously misapplied exercise in corrupt capitalism.
I have tremendous respect for our President. On this issue I part company. He is as much a corporate tool as the rest of the COCS.
I don't want a public option. I want the greedy insurance pricks ridden out of my health care system on a rail and covered with tar and feathers. If we have to put all of congress and the White House on said rail than so be it.
I WANT A SINGLE PAYER SYSTEM AND THAT IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN TELLING MY CONGRESSMEN.

I love how my President's propagandists use Frank Luntz's terminology to dis the Single Payer option. Despicable.
Keep it up Obama. You are making yourself into a one term president by ignoring what we want. Get those greedy insurance pigs out of my health care trough.

I worked countless hours and donated many many $25.00 contributions to the Obama campaign.
Somehow I feel I was duped, there was nothing done to help those in mortgage distress, there was nothing done with bankruptcy reform, the stimulus package got so watered down it really does nothing for job creation, gays are still thrown out of the military, we are continuing the gitmo detentions, the wall street firms still get handed billions of dollars with no accountability, seems healthcare will end up being the same with some new slogans we can call it.
What has changed?

Very serious question - is the White Houser the actual enemy of real health care reform?
________________
To your question: OF COURSE the WH would be the enemy of real health care reform. Most definitely!
Why?
Well, the United States of American is a corporate, for-profit entity. It is an enterprise I call USA, Inc.
Like all "businesses" the bottom line is profit.
Things like health care and education are expenditures and costs.
USA, Inc. doesn't want to pay.
There are only two sectors: the public sector and the private sector.
The private sector only concerns itself with keeping costs down and PROFIT GENERATING. Period.
The public sector is the only one which should be invested in the public good, the public welfare. This
is not the profit side, it's the caring-for-people side.
But, since the United States IS itself a corporate entity it wants to slide everythinggggggggggggg over to the private side. Privatize, or generate profit, in all areas --- including prisons, and if we can figure it out, schools, too.
Where is USA, Inc. power base located? The White House. They oversee the profits.
So, yeah, the WH is a natural enemy of providing for the people --- that costs and USA, Inc. doesn't want to pay.
They whole system is designed to serve those at the top of the apex.
Even though the public overwhelmingly wants and needs (and is dying over) available and quality health care --- well, good luck!
This goes against the very core of USA, Inc.'s agenda and core principals.
It will make a big show, a big splash "as if" it was considered, but when all is said and done the results will likely be something lame that still throws more than a few morsels to the Insurance Industry which it must feed.
