Fire Up the Email for the Public Option

Back in late June and early July, we successfully pushed members of Congress to support the public option. We, as a liberal community, had a serious impact. Remember how Diane Feinstein complained about all the calls she was getting about it? That was awesome.

With the public option on the ropes again, it's time to amp up our efforts. Because Congress is in recess, I strongly recommend emailing until they reconvene.

My email to the Whitehouse!

No public option, is not an option. This will spell the end of the Democrats if you cave on something we all voted for. The reason you have a huge majority in the Senate and the House is because of us. If there isn't a strong public option, not a co op, we will view this as a betrayal. We don't see it any other way. For us, this is a deal breaker. The Democratic supporters are not going to allow the President's adgenda to be hijacked by Republicans and their lunatic fringe who show up at some of these townhalls. We'll organize against you the same way we did against John McCain!

Thanks for the list, Bob.

I have one question if anyone can advise - in an earlier post someone commented that email was the way to go, not mail or phone, because that way the recipient had no way of knowing that you weren't a resident of their state/district.

I've noticed that all of the email pages for the names above require address, etc. I'm assuming the submission won't be made unless you fill those lines in - I'm not sure what to ask at this point, I just don't want to be missing anything.

Sorry - this is a jumble, I've been up too long.

Thanks for putting all this information together for us, Bob. Looks like I'll be doing some emailing tonight!

This is super. Thank you.

You know, I wonder if this is Obama's way of letting us know he needs our help. These guys know what happens when bad news hits the blogosphere. Perhaps this is his gentle reminder "I need your help here. These guys aren't getting it. Light 'em up."

Count me in.

Thanks, Bob, for the info.

Thanks Bob. Also, does anyone have a sample email that I can copy? I might start cursing, and that wouldn't do at all. Thanks in advance.

How about:

Democratic supporters rallied in 2008 to vote for President Obama. We also brought a huge majority to the Senate and the House. If there is no public option, we will support the opposing candidate in what will surely be the highest turn out for a mid term election cycle in 20 years. We did not vote for this 60 Senate majority so that we could pass legislation that is preferable to Republicans. The public option is an absolute DEAL BREAKER! WE WON'T SUPPORT A CO OP!

My advice is not to use their form emails.. Use your own email address and use your server.. or set up a Yahoo, Hotmail or GMail account and use it.. some kind of Web Based service.. Copy their address and just do a free email letter to them.. don't use a form of some kind that lets them set the tone or make you jump through hoops to try to get your point across.. I have tried that with even my Senators and they don't pay attention to them.. I finally had to yell at Claire McCaskill on Twitter to get her attention the other day and put her on the spot publically in order to get an answer from her. That's when she made the famous or infamous "pubic option" quote.. But I had sent her emails for 3 months on her web page and she wouldn't answer me..so I pushed the issue on Twitter and she had to answer.. and that was the result..

Now, I am starting to get answers from her on the emails I sent all those months ago.. because I complained long and loud to her in a public forum and got her attention.. basically I embarrassed her.. sometimes thats what it takes. That's what these town halls are doing to the Republicans too.. the longer these people are shouting and screaming it is embarrassing them.. trust me.. yeah it dropped the poll numbers a little.. just like Sarah Palin did last year in the campaign when she was first introduced... and then what happened.. I know everyone likes to say it was the financial collapse..but if you look back at the polling it wasn't.. the numbers were changing before that...she was fading fast and so was McCain before the collapse..

That's what they were saying on Moyers show too.. Even though the so called MSM doesn't like to show it.. the poll numbers are really still with Pres. Obama and the Democrats.. but we don't see it because that doesn't sell papers... Drama does.

Thanks for the names. I took Annette's advice and decided to send emails. I'm obsessed with generational politics, so I wanted to bring in a different aspect. Here's my email:

The Millennial Generation wants the public option:

"Millennials are particularly resolute on the need for universal health care and, more than older generations, they want to see bold, decisive action toward this goal. Seventy-one percent agree that the federal government should guarantee health care coverage for all Americans." ~AmericanProgress.org

The Millennial Generation is ready to exercise their vote:

"But the 2008 election was barely the tip of the Millennial iceberg. Important as they were a year ago, not even half (41%) of Millennials were eligible to vote and they accounted for less than a fifth (17%) of the voting age population in 2008. A bare majority of Millennials will be eligible in 2010. Close to two-thirds of them (61%), representing a quarter of the electorate will be able to vote when President Obama runs for reelection in 2012. By 2016, eight in ten Millennials will be eligible to vote and they will comprise 30-percent of the electorate. In 2020, when virtually all Millennials will be old enough to vote, they will account for more than a third of the electorate (36%). With numbers like these, the Millennial Generation will be in position to dominate U.S. elections and politics for decades to come." ~MillennialMakeover.com

These are the polls that show how favorable America views the public option...and the Millennials aren't even fully represented:

The will of the people will be heard. Represent our values, or we'll find someone else to.

GOOD NEWS! JUST READ THIS ON CROOKS AND LIARS:

In the meantime, the White House released this statement late this afternoon:

Nothing has changed. POTUS has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and increase choice and competition. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals.

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 7:28 PM

WE'VE ALREADY DONE THIS. OVER AND OVEER AND OVER.

Good grief. Obiously Obama doesn't give a DAMN about what we say.

My question is. Are 880,000 people supposed to die because we cannot get a public option passed?

Bunch of spineless, USELESS people in Washingon.

I'm done.

Posted by: Jan [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 7:29 PM

@ Rox.. The key line from all of that is this..

Nothing has changed.

Posted by: Annette [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 7:34 PM

We won't know that for sure until there's an actual vote! I say keep the pressure on but, it's hard to get too agitated by all of this. We've seen this movie before. It ended pretty well for us the last time!

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 7:37 PM

@ Jan.. What have you done?.. sit here and said over and over you were finished... I love your defeatist attitude.. Obviously you don't give a damn about anyone but yourself and you are not getting your way. You and Lee need to go suck lemons or something. I am sick and damn tired of all of you nervous nellies who can't seem to get your shit together because someone isn't stroking you every 5 minutes.. DailyKos is the same way.. There are 10 or more diaries over there the same way... I read one.. she is the best one of all and she writes there and at FDL, when she says she is done and has given up.. then maybe I will..
She goes by slinkerwink..

@Annette

I was just about to type the very same thing.

Posted by: jjasonham [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 7:41 PM

Obviously you don't give a damn about anyone but yourself and you are not getting your way.

My WAY?? Are you friggin' kidding me? Uh no. I care about the 47 or 50 MILLION folks with no insurance, the unemployed, the under insured who are getting ripped off every single day by the insurance companies. It makes me sick that Obama et al are caving in to the special interests and the rethugs.

So tell me, if we have no public option what is left? is this really ok with you all? REALLY?

I hope the dems will not cave and stand up but I'm not feeling hopeful. So we will get some bullshit co op shit?

Come ON.

Posted by: Jan [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 8:42 PM

Unfortunately I've been where many of these people are. I'd get so annoyed at something I read I was calling for everyone to stay home and not vote. I'm sure I did it earlier today but, once I calmed down I started saying that the Whitehouse needed to come out and denounce this immediately and they did. I have to say that I'm thrilled if for no other reason than, I won't have to listed to that asshole Scarborough tomorrow morning crowing about this. I don't watch him much because whenever I pop in he really pisses me off. I also figured that it would have been the first question to Robert Gibbs tomorrow as well. I've been watching to see how long it's taking these morons to correct their website headlines. Even the huffingtonpost is still wrong.

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at August 16, 2009 8:48 PM

Hey Rox,

U can never stop Joe. He will crow tomorrow too. Nothing shames him. He will find a way to twist stuff. He is such a bully, that others have to cow tow to him. Mika is reduced to a babbling sycophant.

He claimed Hannity is his friend and he watches his show regularly.

He used to be OK once upon a time. Since Obama, he is showing his true colors, colors I do not like him. I used to FF him to catch some of the guests.
Finally I pulled the plug on him.

A mail I sent to the Whitehouse a while back - is probably in the round file.

CoOps are a big fraud
---------------------

Conrad and Bachus are suspect in their advocacy of HCR. For fake bipartisanship they are ready to compromise the very soul of meaningful Health Reform. Republicans are shamelessly in pockets of vested interests. Either the dynamic Duo is pledged to the same fraternity or for their desire for couple of GOP votes, they are willing to dilute the Bill ... Read Moreto the level of Homeopathic Medicine. Organizing a health Co-op is no easy task. I have seen many come and go even in areas like food Co-ops. CoOps can be organized even today, if you can sign up enough subscribers. From this logic Medicare should also be converted to co-ops run by the elderly. What crock! Say Ed Schultz tries to organize the "30Rock Health Co-Op" with expert guidance of Conrad. He will help Ed sign up a few quacks in NY because they will be the only ones willing to join a fledgling co-op with a tiny membership. The CoOp fraud is not going to fool us. I HOPE THE PRESIDENT DOES NOT PLACE BIPARTISANSHIP OVER NATIONAL INTEREST.

"Medicare to Implement the Public Option" - Why is this scary?
--------------------------------------------------

It is disturbing to see that Medicare apologizing for Medicare instead of being proud of it. Taking care of 44M elderly, it has become an integral part of the American fabric. Surely it can be expanded to provide the so called Public Option. Yes there is financial fraud in Medicare. It needs to be eliminated just as with any other Govt agency; by passing sharper laws and serious enforcement. GOP partisans call Medicare as an an example of failed Govt control. My case for Medicare for All Comers (NOT FOR ALL) is in the next couple of paragraphs.

Recognize that Medicare is a plan that protects the health of 44 Million Seniors. GOPsters say Medicare is a Government run unmitigated disaster. Ask them if they would take their parents of this disaster and place them in a free market private insurance and you will be able to her a pin drop. They appear to be quite willing to consign their elderly to substandard care, not good enough for them. This chasm is wider for the Hill Dwellers, who enjoy a lifelong deluxe plan at taxpayer's expense. Speaks volumes about their character.

The Insurance Company tools do not want to ask their paymasters for insurance coverage for the elderly. This is because the Oligarchs are only too happy to keep just the healthy in their pools to maximize their profits. They will not sign up even if they are given all the money coming in from the payroll taxes. And yet all these so called budget hawks would not want Medicare/Public Option symbiosis, which will expand the pool and reduce the overall cost to the taxpayers. This will also pull Medicare out of its impending bankruptcy and at the same time also provide a quality public option to the below 65 individuals.

It is amazing that the Corporatocracy has Democracy on the run. Health Inc lobbies and their Congressional proxies are hard at work to protect their interests at any cost. Misinformation campaigns, false free market-ism draped in Red/White/Blue, sponsoring Hooliganism in Town Halls, are all legit in a Corporatocracy.

Not being hamstrung by this false propaganda, requires tough direct talk, instead of sacrificing the American people on the alter of Sham Bipartisanship or of Appeasement of the Blue and Bluish Dogs.

I hope President Obama delivers a simple direct message uncluttered by political horse trading. If it is as clean and visionary as the message as he delivered in Prague, Cairo and on Inauguration Day he can free the people from the shackles of fear mongers.
