Morning Joe
Maria Bartiromo isn't a very smart person. She just tried to tell Matt Taibbi on Morning Joe that America has the best healthcare system in the world because people from other nations come here for procedures. Of course this might be true -- for foreigners who can afford our insanely expensive technology and medical services.
Chiming in, John Ridley made the point I've been blogging about for a couple of weeks -- the problem of access. We might -- might -- have the greatest medical technology and greatest doctors in the world, but if a surgery with multiple tests before and after costs tens- if not hundreds of thousands of dollars, who can afford that? Even with insurance, as Taibbi pointed out, eight out of ten medical-related bankruptcies are filed by people with health insurance.

Why is Bartiromo even weighing in on the discussion? What does her Wall Street/CNBC experience have anything to do with health care? Amazing that after all these weeks, she blurted out GOP Talking Points 101, Answer 1: "We have the best health care system in the world and people from everywhere come here for procedures." What's the point if no one can afford it, moron? Stick to the stocks, please.

Bartirimo's credentials are simply her ability to blurt out ridiculous statements in an effort to disrupt the discussion and slow things down. That's it. "Loud Noises!"
I'm stunned he had Matt Taibbi on his show. Wasn't he also supposed to have Rep. Weiner on today as well? It's not like Joe to so deliberately stack the deck against himself. He probably had to shift into sing-song sarcasmo mode right from the get-go.

Nano: Joe said that Weiner couldn't make it today, so instead he was an asshole to Jonathan Capehart. Looks like he is determined never to be bested on his show again.

The statement that 'we have the best health care system...' is flat-out false. We may have the best health care technology and doctors, but to use the word 'system' invokes the entirety of the health-care experiences of everyone in the country, and, as the WHO rankings so ably point out, we suck.

I can't stand that pig faced moron! After claiming that the 46 million is not the true number of people who don't have healthcare, at the end of the show she comes back and says the number is actually 20 million. First of all where the hell did she get that number and second, if the number is 20 million is she saying that that's Ok? These people are a disgrace. I pray that we get a good, strong, robust public option so that I can watch all of these asswipes eating crow! What really ticked me off is that when I woke up and tuned in, Buchanan was there and they were all trashing liberals and progressives and saying that we should just drop this whole public option. They also praised the Blue Dogs for standing firm and not voting for the public option. Pat said that the Blue Dogs were the ones who put us in the majority and now were trashing them for not going along. Fuck that! Did the Blue Dogs not hear Obama through out his campaign talking about the public option? Was this a surprise to them? They were voted in as DEMOCRATS, NOT REPULICANS! If they held these Republican values then, they should have run as Republicans? If they want to be members of the Democratic party then they need to remember what our values are.

Yeah I like Jonathan Capehart a lot, but he's an easy target for Joe to vent his impotent rage upon. I mean while Joe's prepping his "show" for tomorrow's broadcast, people like Capehart are actually out there reporting and searching out facts and you know the rest. All the stuff Joe has no idea how to do.

Spot on Nano! I'm an African American female but, there are 3 people I hate seeing on Morning Joe. Capehart, Harold ford and even John Ridley. These guys, while clearly well raised have been taught not to be an angry, screaming type of person which is fine but, it's exactly what would be called for when dealing with that dick! Harold seems to be the worst at not taking a stand. He's constantly saying things like, Congressmen "fill in the blank" is my friend but, I disagree with him. Trust me Harold, no one in the GOP is your friend. You got real close to winning a Senate seat until they played the race card against you. Wake up guys and smack down these trolls every chance you get. Unfortunatly I missed the part of the show where Joe must have unleased on Jonathan. When I tuned in Joe was apologizing. Jonathan's mom called in last week on Morning Meeting and smacked down Dylan for something he'd done or said on the show about Jonathan. I wish she'd have called in this morning.

Oh god (Thor) I can't stand Harold Ford. In my opinion, he's a Democrat in name only. I'm actually glad he didn't win his Senate race. I'm fairly certain we'd be having to deal with his Blue Dog bullshit right along with the rest of them.

You know, when the camera is not on Joe, and you're not hearing his voice, I think it's because he's snuck off to the bathroom.
I like that they recognize that we have the best health care in the world (even though I still think that's a bullshitter's metric. It's rooted in nothing more than the mythology of America being the Best at Everything) but that if you don't have the access it doesn't matter, but enough with the "people come from around the world to get health care here in America, where we're the Best at Everything." It's so horribly anecdotal. I mean can they honestly point to one average world citizen, and I'm not talking about the well heeled or the fucking Shah of Iran (who probably came here out of fear that if he went under anesthetic in Iran he knew he might not wake up), but people of average means, that said "Eff my single-payer government paid-for health care here. I'm going to America!" ? And did that person really come here because they felt the health care was better or because they were their country's version of a conservative wingnut and just wanted to make a stupid point about government health care being terrible?
I'm just sick of hearing that argument all the time. We're not besties at everything, and that's usually patriotically vomited up by people that are at best, average at a few things.
I have spoken!

Not surprised at all. A lot of "smart" people have been saying some stupid shit lately.

It's a false argument, attempting to pit those in favor of reform as insulting our doctors and healthcare providers for providing substandard service.
People that can afford to do so may visit our country to take advantage of our doctors and medical services. I don't believe anyone disputes that. However, I doubt anyone would come here simply because of our streamlined insurance claims handling system. It's very hard to keep everyone focused on what reform really means.

Yeah Woody, it's an easy deflect. We just saw eight years of it. If you questioned any aspect of the occupation of Iraq or Afghanistan the immediate response was "Why do you want America to fail? Why do you hate The Troops?!?"
Sometimes we fall into that trap of stopping the discussion to defend our patriotism to people that just want us to, wait for it, stop the discussion and get bogged down in nonsense.
Taibbi fell for that just a bit. I think that's where Weiner won the day. He stayed right on message and didn't let Joe's pointless "this is America! Profit! Profit! Why do you hate profit you commie bastard?" line of defense get in the way.

Well, Rox, I saw Joe and Capehart, and it was enough to make you drop your head in shame. I positively cannot believe that Jonathan didn't just walk off the set. Scarborough was a premium grade asshole to him, and he just set there like he was being reprimanded by the head nun. Pissed me off.

I live an work in Japan and am enrolled in the Japanese government run health insurance program. My annual premium is $99.00 and my wife's annual premium is $72.00. In addition we pay 10 percent of the health care charges. We can go to any medical/dental treatment facility without and appointment and be seen the same day. Recently I had test run for a back problem which included MRI, CT scan, fluroscopy, pulmonary function test, and blood/urine tests plus one day inpatient care and total out of pocket cost was $89.00. Japan does have some problems with it's health care system but it does cover all citizens and foreigners working in Japan.
