Real Life 'Death Panels' - Again

The Republicans must really believe they've won the healthcare debate because they can't stop tipping their hand and telling the nation what they really think:

Asked by ABC News about a package of insurance market reforms that have been endorsed not only by President Obama but also by the insurance industry, Sen. Jon Kyl came out against all three proposals.

In particular, the Arizona Republican signaled that he opposes requiring insurance companies nationwide to provide coverage without regard to pre-existing conditions; requiring them to charge everyone the same rate regardless of health status; and requiring all Americans to carry health insurance.

Jon Kyl, whose job it is to muster Republican votes in the Senate, believes that health insurance companies should be able do whatever the hell they want regardless of how deadly it might be. Aside from endorsing real life "death panels," Kyl is also signalling to the Democrats that "Healthcare Reform Bill #2" with the various so-called "popular" regulations will be filibustered and all or most of the Republicans will vote against it.

No matter how you slice this thing, Republicans will not vote for it. Ever. They're content to just let there be the mortality equivalent of another 9/11 every two months due to The Best Healthcare System In The World. You know, because they want the president to fail.

I don't really like saying this but, I have to be honest....I HATE REPUBLICANS! This man is a disgrace. If he wants to hand over all of his money to fucking insurance companies then, have at it! Asshole!

Party First! What a pity they've bamboozled so many of the people that need this reform into thinking it's a bad thing.

Is there anything Kyl is for?

@brutlyhonest:
Obama will be speaking to Congress soon, right? Hopefully part of his speech will help un-bamboozle the public.

I hate sounding like a broken record, but BHO needs to hold a prime-time town-hall on the tee-vee and inform the public what the goals are and what the truth of the matters are. These people do not watch the news (Fox or otherwise). Hopefully they would watch a Town Hall or "Fireside Chat" (not a "press conference").

Why is this so difficult??!!!

Ahhhhhhhh . . . speak to the citizens in terms they can understand!! Remind them of what it says in the Bible regarding "The least of these." -- Look I'm not a Bible-person, but let's speak in ways they can understand.

O/T, but it gave me a feel-good moment:

New Poll: 77 Percent Support "Choice" Of Public Option

It on HuffPo right now.

B_B, Unfortunately, the ones who need to hear truth the most are the ones who won't listen. They're indoctrinated to believe (1) faux is the one, true information source - all others are liberal media & (b) everything the illegitimate President says is a lie.

Personally, I'd like to see the President address the lies as bluntly as Barney Frank did. But we all know how that plays in the press (faux and the "liberals"): wingnut like cheney tells someone to fuck-off = regular guy being regular; lefty isn't ultra-polite to rude screamer = talking down to the little people.

I listened to Obama's online forum. Very encouraged. Obama pointed out something that I had not realized. (many of you probably already figured this out and Bob has probably said it and I missed it) Obama said the repubs believe that by defeating health care reform they will repeat their victory over the Clinton health plan and thus win back Congress.

I knew they wanted to defeat it no matter what, but now I understand better why they are using every crazy lie they can.

You would think they could look back at Nov. 2008 and see how well that worked.

I was also thinking just this morning that it was a year ago that the repubs picked Palin and things were a bit scary for us yellow dogs. Press was so sure she was the best thing since sliced bread. Obama mentioned this as well.

So here we are again. It's August and the crazies are out in droves.

Instead of stopping reform they are going to do what McCain/Palin did -- push more people away from the loonies that are the GOP.

A follow up to Big Ben, I’m not a street corner preacher or some right wing Christian conservative nut case either. I’m just a struggling middle class worker near bankruptcy due to the greedy health care system we now have.

It might be hard to believe but many of us progressives care deeply about our fellow man and want this reform to succeed for the benefit of all. But we are being screwed over by the so-called “moral majority,” which last I heard, many of the Repubs laid sole claim to and claim some secret key to the Almighty. I take comfort in the old saying “what goes around will eventually come around. Ultimately, we all will have to answer to a higher power someday.

If anyone cares to, read Ezekiel Chapter 34 Verses 2 to about 22, where, in part, God says “Woe to the shepherds who feed themselves instead of their flocks….you eat the best food and wear the finest clothes, but you let your flocks starve…you haven’t taken care of the weak nor tended the sick nor bound up the broken bones….Instead you have ruled them with force and cruelty….You fed yourselves and let them starve…and I will hold you responsible for what has happened to my flock…I will put splints and bandages upon their (my flock) broken limbs and heal the sick. And I will destroy the powerful, fat shepherds...yes, feed them punishment…” (The Living Bible).

This reference seems eerily familiar to the present day health care obstructionists, deathers and/or insurance CEO’s (Shepherds) who claim to represent the people (flock).

This is pretty much expected of top tanking senate republicans.

The pathetic thing is that there are people out there who will benefit from these reforms who would rather be angry and prejudice than stop and help themselves.

There is nothing more ass-backwards than the uneducated and poor voting republican.

>>>Is there anything Kyl is for?

He's all for having his rich daddy pay his mistress hush money. (Actually, I bet that was a super awkward conversation. I kind of picture him petitioning Richard and Emily Gilmore for money, which cracks me up.)

They're living in an alternate reality. It's the only explanation.

If every American is forced to buy private insurance, premiums will skyrocket for every one. They will become unaffordable for a vast majority of Americans, which will mean the government will have to subsidize the majority of health insurance premiums in this nation.

At the risk of pissing Bob off, I've explained why those premiums will skyrocket at my blog and I'm leaving a link to it below.

Bob, I'm trying to help, and I hope you understand I'm not trying to grab your visitors. People need to know the why's. They need to know what's coming if we fail at this. They need to know the differences between the systems, and why private "insurance" will ALWAYS cost more than public funding. If you feel that I'm being rude, please delete this comment. As ever, I bow to your hospitality.
