'You Lie!'
Congressman Joe Wilson will be all over cable news for the rest of the week.
This brief moment of disrespect underscored how truly silly and pathetic the Republicans have become. Their behavior throughout the night proved that they're not to be taken seriously -- especially when it comes to issues such as whether you and I can get affordable medical treatment. Doofish ghouls. All of them.
I remind Congressman Wilson, by the way, the words of Sean Hannity:
"I have had it with members of your party undermining our troops, undermining a commander in chief while we are at war..."
—Sean Hannity, 11/05
Adding... Via reader Jeremy: contribute to Joe Wilson's opponent here.

It says something about their position when their only rebuttal to health care reform is to essentially throw a tantrum like a three-year-old in the cereal aisle. "But I want Lucky Charms/people to die so my rich friends can make a profit! MOMMMM!"

It also says a lot about the other side's respect for the institution of government. why do they run for offices they disdain so much? (that was rhetorical, I know why)

I was thinking how many times during a Bush address somebody could have reasonably yelled "you lie".
But no one did. Respecting the office of the potus in such a setting is pretty much minimum protocol.
Obamas face after that happened was fvckin awesome.

Yes! This asshole is the star of the blogs right now! Meanwhile Keith and Rachel are already praising the speech and trashing this idiot and wondering out loud if this asshole will be censured! Nice going GOP! While the rest of us had alreadly digested and could grasp what healthcare reform meant, you got you schooling directly from the President along with some serious wedgies from the President for you bullshit party and their Quack's rebuttal which was hysterical considering this douchebageis also a birther! I can't wait for that douchebag Scarborough tomorrow to try and spin this needle dick bug fucker in his party who totally disrespected the President! I hope they do censur this scum bag!

And here I thought that the most disrespectful thing they would do would be to Twitter away while he talked.
They have no shame. No shame at all.

Sorry for the typos'! I started drinking about a half hour before the address started in ancitipation that I'd be disappointed by the speech. Thankfully, while what I've read on the blogs seems to be the the opposite, I wasn't!

I don't know if it's because it's nearing that time of month, but I am sitting here pissed off and on the verge of tears. I am feeling extra violent too having just seen inglorious basterds last night.

What can we do, in order to get this idiot and that's the nicest thing I can say about him, censured? Do we need to write to OUR congressman, who happens to be a great Democratic representative.. Ike Skelton...lol I am so lucky that way...

Speaker Pelosi's glare was a thing of beauty. Like, it scared me. It's that face you get from your parent when you say that comment to a sibling that goes one step to far. I am surprised that Joe Wilson has not perished from the earth.

I sent a donation to Wilson's opponent. I wanted to got to both Wilson and Rob Miller's site (Wilson's opponent), but it seems both sites are down.
hmmmm, much traffic you think?
I think emails to Pelosi regarding censuring Wilson might be in order. My congressidiot is Pete Sessions -- a really awful repug. No point in emailing him.

Well, devil's advocate here. If an illegal alien was wheeled into an emergency room in the middle of a heart attack, would he get treatment? Of course he would. Could he pay? probably not. We pick up the bill. Should he be denied treatment? Absolutely not. I'm assuming that Wilson's constituancy would prefer to have the patient die than recieve care, because he's here illegally and doesn't deserve it from us hard working taxpayers. That's where they're coming from. Sooo, when Obama says illegal's won't qualify, does he mean we won't treat them? No. So. He's a liar. Go figure.

Well indyinwc,
they'd treat him currently still without the reform being proposed. Even during the Bush years an illegal would probably be treated in an ER. So it really has nothing to do with anything Obama or Dems have been saying. Also something that irritates me about the idea that they're being "treated" is that those people seem to think you get top dollar care if you just walk on in. I'm pretty sure the idea is you come in, they stabilize you, then you get turfed out.

He distinctly said "To blave".

I had a friend here at work that used that as a reason we should not have "free health care," that illegal aliens and other people would abuse it. So I asked him, "You would deny affordable health care to more than 25 million Americans because maybe 100,000 might abuse it? Really? And oh yeah, it's not 'free health care'. We'd be paying premiums."
He didn't have an answer for that.

Alex, Yes. Anyone will get treatment, because it's the moral and righteous response. It's humane and everything the hypocratic oath espouses. Then we boot 'em out. But to some, the 18 percenters, like Nano quotes, cannot get beyond the fact that hospitals may actually have to treat illegal aliens who have life threatening situations. I've talked to folks in my town who really believe they should just die because they've broken the law by coming here illegally.
And you're right, the prevailing perception is they're geting this top dollar care, private room, cable tv, fawning nurses, all for free(!) just makes them apopleptic. When in actuality has nothing at all to do with health care reform. But it makes for great RW sound bites that feed the base.

I'm sure you all understand that this Wilson outburst is yet another of the so-called "shiny objects" designed for cable "news" cycles, correct?
Not to take the sting away from the offense itself, but try not to fall into the trap the cable shows want us to fall into: sensationalism deviating from a real discussion concerning health care and the WH agenda.

You really think the President lied? Did he say illegal aliens wouldn't be treated if they show up in an emergency room (like they are now)? No, he said they wouldn't be insured. Hell, you even proved your own point then jumped to an illogical conclusion. Go figure, indeed.
One of the errors in the war of words has been to call it health care reform instead of health insurance reform.

What did Wilson think this was ? A town hall meeting ? Did he have a gun strappend to his ankle ?

And I'm sure this won him some votes in South Carolina.

I'm counting down the time to when Wilson recants his apology to Obama, and makes his real apology to Rush.
You can't shame the shameless.

Boy oh boy, to be a fly on the wall when Pelosi has a little chat with this congressman. And, can you imagine the apology to Rahm? How many MFers did he get called?

ZIRGAR, that was freakin' hilarious. It took me but a second to place the reference, but when I did, I immediately heard Carol Kane's shrieking voice: "Liar! LIE ERRRR!" Thanks for the laugh.
