JUST TO THRIVE, PERIOD
By BCAB Chief Presidential Saturday Address Video-Watcher Elvis Dingeldein.
Good job today by Mr. The President Barack Obama™ in making the case for healthcare reform as part and parcel of economic recovery, though I would have added a graph in the middle about how many jobs might be realized by retooling the Space Program in order to launch Rush Limbaugh’s fat fucking ass into the sun, or possibly studying the quantum effects of accelerating him at near-light speeds and smashing him into Glenn Beck. If you haven’t already caught the speech, here it is:
For me, the Money Quote was this:
This is something I hear about from entrepreneurs I meet – people who’ve got a good idea, and the expertise and determination to build it into a thriving business. But many can’t take that leap because they can’t afford to lose the health insurance they have at their current job. [Emphasis mine.]
I’m a Liberal, so I have to take this idea a step further and say that healthcare portability is crucial not just for our Free Market Supersucktacular Shock Doctrined Econoplex of Doom, but for a thriving culture in general. How many potential poets, dancers, authors, artists, playwrights, composers and musicians might we liberate from the tyranny of cubiclespace if they no longer had to work just for the privilege of health benefits? Isn’t there something to be said for proactively insuring American Exceptionalism against sickness and death, just so that talent might grow unhindered by fear and ruin?
