RNC Website Fail

The Republicans relaunched their new and super-buggy website today and it's hilariously awful.

It's nearly impossible to click anywhere beyond the front page. There's actually not much of anything above the fold, and below the fold there's a "Republican Heroes" banner that appears to be ballyhooing someone named Pickney Pinchback. No offense to Mr. Pinchback, but nothing says "new and exciting" like a guy from the 19th century named "Pickney Pinchback."

Some other observations from Ambinder:

- In a section devoted to "future leaders," there were none.

- The last GOP accomplishment cited on the accomplishment page was from 2004.

- Administrator passwords were accidentally posted.

- The first question on the conference call was from an Hispanic Republican who asked why the GOP site didn't have a Spanish-language page and noted that the White House had one.

Oh, and when the accomplishments page finally loaded for me, this was the actual logo at the top of the page:

Is that really the face you want replacing the "O" in your logo? The Ardipithecus?

that's pretty hilarious. And among those "heroes" most of them were in the 19th century, most of whom would probably puke at the sight of today's GOP.

Michael Steele's shiny new blog is the icing on the shitcake - it's called "What Up". No, that is not a typo. Yes, it really is called that. And there's an animatronic Steele that walks around the page and talks like one of those oh-so-annoying noisy smiley ads. So much fail in one place - no wonder the site's down.

And to think that people were worried there'd be no comedy once Bush was off the scene.

I love the communist red of the blog, plus the fact that Steele's page is at /chairman_steele.

Oh and what about Michael Steele walking out onto your screen and talking when you hit the front page? Yeah that makes the site not only highly annoying, but also "not safe for work".

As a professional web developer all I can say is that the new gop.com is 100 degrees of total fail.

Note for readers not up on their evolutionary anthropology:

Ardipithecus is a very early hominin genus (subfamily Homininae). Two species are described in the literature: A. ramidus, which lived about 4.4 million years ago[1] during the early Pliocene, and A. kadabba, dated to approximately 5.6 million years ago[2] (late Miocene).

But, Ardipithecus is perfect! So old, so dead, so quasi-apelike--a true transistional fossil. Unless of course you mean that the GOP hasn't even evolved to the point of Ardi yet. In which case, you may be correct.

By the way, every fossil is basically a transitional fossil, unless it has a modern, unchanged living descendant or its species became extinct. Just a little something for anyone who thinks evolution is false and lacks corroborative transitional evidence.

Anyone notice that 9 of the 16 Republican Heroes are black? No? Didn't notice that? Completely slipped by you, huh?

You think they're trying to say something? I can almost make it out. But not quite. Like someone talking underwater.

What is it they're trying to articulate?

I just stopped by for a very quick look 'round. I took a look at the "accomplishments" page to see if it was still blank.

It isn't, and here's my question for the learned: Didn't Republicans and Dems have an ideological shift at some point? When was that? I ask because I'm wondering if the repubs of today are taking credit for accomplishments of the past (e.g. 1800's) which were essentially Democratic by today's definition . . . does that question make sense?

Anyone . . . ? Bueller?

I got this from the "Who We Are" page of the site:

...the Republican Party, since its inception, has been at the forefront of the fight for individuals' rights in opposition to a large, intrusive government.

What they mean here is the idividuals' rights as defined by the RNC, which includes your right to let the RNC decide who you are allowed to marry, whether or not you can have an abortion and what is permissible in your bedroom.

The RNC will certainly defend your right to have Christianity dictate your actions.

I noticed that by doing a number of page refreshes on the home page, the "GOP faces" that appear most frequently are those of attractive white girls. Hmmmmm.... Looks like they are employing the "Palin strategy" here.
