Healthcare Is A Winning Issue
Congressional leadership would do well to mail around a one-word memo to Blue Dogs.
To: Congressman Blue Dog (D-AHIP)
From: Democratic Leadership
Subject: Re: Healthcare ReformCreigh Deeds ran against healthcare reform.
I'm not saying anything new here. It's obvious to anyone paying attention that Creigh Deeds lost because he ran away from the president's agenda on healthcare reform and other administration priorities. And he lost in a landslide.
Healthcare reform is easy to sell. You won't have to worry about not qualifying for insurance anymore. You can start your own business and take your policy with you, or sign up for the affordable public plan. It will create jobs and stimulate the economy and reduce the federal budget deficit. Americans will pay less for insurance.
The Democrats who run on conservadem platforms next year and against the healthcare reform bill will lose. Not because of healthcare reform passing, but because they opposed it.
Markos and Steve Benen have more.

I think the problem that the corporate media, pundits and a quantity of politicians are, either purposely or ignorantly, failing to understand is that people know the current health insurance system suck, they understand health care for profit is a bankrupt idea and that people just want someone to fix it. It's that simple.
The democrats need to show results on health care, Wall st, environmental, renewable energy issues and the masses will follow. Implement a second stimulus that focuses on good jobs in energy, green products etc and less on tax breaks and the masses will follow.

Ed Schultz framed this very succinctly on MSNBC the other night. Health care reform, when it passes, is going to be wildly popular. The politicians who are on the wrong side of this issue are going to have some serious explaining to do when they're up for reelection.
This isn't like Iraq, where they can explain their votes with, "Oh, Bush snowed us. It isn't our fault."

On Morning Joe today, they made complete fools of themselves trying to say that it was the Dems who lost big when we all know that's bullshit. We picked up 2 more House votes for healthcare and their party got 2 govenors who can't vote on any legislation in Washington.
Rachel Maddow also had a great map last night of just what Tuesday's election did for Republicans and it was spot on and stunning in it's relavancy. Think Progress however, put it best and took dead aim at Blue Dogs. Maybe they should send this to those whores!
And today, Think Progress expands on that point with a look at how Creigh Deeds failed to run as a progressive ... and failed miserably:
•NOT PROGRESSIVE ON CLIMATE: By the end of his campaign, Deeds was running ads attacking Obama’s clean energy agenda, saying Obama’s “cap and trade bill” would “hurt the people of Virginia.” Other ads carried the same message: “Creigh Deeds says no to any new energy taxes from Washington.” Instead of disputing his Republican opponent’s false attacks on climate legislation, Deeds amplified them. Deeds chose to run away from his past record on environment and climate issues. [...]
•NOT PROGRESSIVE ON HEALTH CARE: During the final gubernatorial debate, Deeds stressed that health reform must “reduce costs so more people can afford insurance” and “increase coverage,” but argued that creating the option of a public health care plan “isn’t required.” “I don’t think the public option is necessary in any plan...I would certainly consider opting out if that were available to Virginia,” he said. [...]
•NOT PROGRESSIVE ON LABOR ISSUES: “When I’m governor, you won’t just have a friend in Richmond — you’ll have a partner,” Deeds told union supporters in October, 2008. However, despite support from SEIU and the Teamsters, Deeds then proceeded to campaign on an anti-labor platform. He opposed the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) — which would have created a fairer path toward unionization for workers — saying it would “put us at a competitive disadvantage” and reasserting the false right-wing claim that EFCA would eliminate the secret ballot in union elections. [...]
•NOT PROGRESSIVE ON IMMIGRATION REFORM: More than one in ten Virginians are immigrants. The Immigration Policy Center also points out that Latinos comprised 2.0% (or 74,000) of Virginia voters in the 2008 elections — enough to make a difference in a tight race. Creigh Deeds might regret repeatedly voting in favor of legislation that would hurt a large and growing part of his constituency.
And if you need further proof that running against progressive values is a losing proposition, consider this -- the Republican leadership, deeply concerned about the future of our party, are now urging Democrats to run to the center. Enough said.

And next on the hit parade is Tom Perriello. If he doesn't vote yes, we won't show up for his re election either.
So, lesson learned I hope. There are now around 12 rethugs gearing up for his seat. He's gonna need dems, progressives and indies to hold on to his seat.
He needs to remember he is a democrat. he sat on the fence durng his town halls. Time to jump off come Saturday. After the Deeds debacle, we will be watching.

Jeez, Rox, you are I were certainly on the same page this morning. Mika with her fake outrage that Pelosi said that the Dems won on Tuesday. From where I'm sitting, two new house members to help out on healthcare (now and later) and the rest of the progressive agenda vs. two governors. It feels like a win to me.
On another note, I really think I must be masochistic watching that flippin show every morning. Fair and balanced my ass.

Exactly Stacib! I used to wake up purposely and watch it sents I got laid off from Merrill Lynch but, now, it's more by chance and when I do, they're so excrutiating I want to punch the screen. I loved how Savannah Guthrie smacked down that idiot Scarborough (aka "Jethro" when he said that the Dems have repeatedly missed deadlines set by Obama and now Reid said that they would't be bound by a timetable. Savannah informed him that Reid had walked that back saying he believes they can get it done this year. She's normally as stupid as the rest of them but, it was good to see her bitch slap Jethro with some facts! They really do suck!

That's since! Jeebus, what's wrong with me? Obama has socialized my ability to spell which was part of his communits plan to force schools in session 8 days a week!
Ah, wingnut speak. You guys should try it! It's easy if you just throw words together that make no sense and have nothing to do with anything that resembles reality!

Here's what the GOP sounded like after Tuesday:
"The Yankees won the World Series! This is a HUGE victory for Philadephia!"
