The Sarah Palin Reality Show

I honestly believe that Bill Kristol and her other ghost handlers are cynical enough to believe that Sarah Palin could ride a celebreality rocket ship into the White House. In other words, I think they (and Palin herself) believe that there's no real need for her to be a substantive, dignified, informed, insightful public official.

They look at the climate of celebrity gossip and reality show mania and they see an opening in America's love affair with superficiality -- ready to exploit. In their view, where Ronald Reagan was a celebrity in the old-Hollywood framework, Palin is a celebrity in the vapid, celebudoof, Balloon Boy, reality show, new-Hollywood framework. Perfect match.

And it's dangerous. Idiocracy dangerous.

Adding... Regarding the Newsweek cover, if Sarah Palin wants to be taken seriously, then she needs to act like it. You can't be a winking airhead and expect people to portray you as anything other than a winking airhead.

Well, we're already well on our way to idiocracy, as TruTV has started the show "Ow! My Balls!!" (though they're calling it something else right now). Then again, Rudfuckkers still hasn't changed their name either. Maybe President Palin (sorry, I just threw up in my mouth) can take care of those name changes.

Max Blumenthal recently wrote a brilliant piece on the Palin phenomenon. In the end, it's really the victim status Palin's followers identify with - not the celebrity. The dumber she is the better her chances to win the presidency, because it's always another chance to play victim to the "gotcha media".

As she continues to contradict herself, people with brains may have more doubts about her credibility. Anybody who thinks she could be President could care less about facts and truth. As long as she's prolife and anti-Obama, she can keep rambling incoherently and lie like a dog. I'll trusting Levi now.

Oh the irony! Did you see the item on CNN's Political Ticker about Palin's complaint re: the Newsweek cover of her? She says it's sexist. Nevermind that its a photo that she shot for Runner's World previously.....

If she doesn't want to show off her bod, then she shouldn't have posed for Runner's World like that. It's not like Newsweek ran around and did a "gotcha" photo of her....she posed for this photo but only wants it used in the way that she wants it used. Funny, other people in politics also don't get a say in how photos of them are used....like those idjits using Obama's photo with a Hitler mustache.

If she doesn't want to be portrayed in a sexist light, perhaps she should not rely on her looks so much. Yeah, like that's gonna happen! NOT!

Oh and please let's not forget the nitwit progressives helping her along to The White House in 2012. Keep up the great work y'all.

Posted by: Sammyscooge [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 11:13 AM

I checked out the "Runner's World" photo - how many women actually go jogging in pantyhose? Can't be comfortable...

Posted by: Eric [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 11:15 AM

She tells Barbara Walters that she gives the president a grade of 4 out of 10. I'd give her parenting skills a 4. She was shocked that her daughter was having sex, said that there were things like birth control or not doing it, yet she never mentions having mentioned that to her daughter before she got knocked up on mommie's couch!

Also, I heard someone say that Levi isn't even mentioned in the book. Makes that whole Thanksgiving invitation seem as hollow as she is.

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 11:36 AM

Oh, and yes, those pantyhose are a true sign of hillbilly trash.

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 11:40 AM

I love that she is now claiming to be a victim of sexism after running for VP on her sex appeal.

Kristol and the other old farts who love her are thinking with their pelvis.

Posted by: eve [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 11:45 AM

Rox, Yes! Who wears pantyhose for exercise! Pantyhose and shorts are to look SEXY! Sooooo common, as my grandmother would have said.

Posted by: eve [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 11:48 AM

She might be able to ride a celebreality rocket all the way to the primaries, but I think the other republican candidates would show no mercy to her beyond then when it gets serious.

Posted by: J M Ashby [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:00 PM

Exactly Eve! Think, Vicky Lawrence from Momma's Family or that Kiss My Gritts woman from Alice! Straight up hayseed. And I'm sorry but, the thought of eating moose just makes my stomach turn and, yes I do eat meat. Just not moose. It's probably why she has to exercise. Sadly, all of her daughters look a bit chubby. That could be why. Have these people ever heard of vegetables?

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:01 PM

"Sarah Palin" and "reality" should not be used in the same paragraph, nevermind in the same sentence.

Posted by: Wolfe_Tone [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:08 PM

And what serious politician uses the word bullcrap to describe anything? She's so ignorant it's scary. She's in total denial of just how stupid she is. Everything is the fault of someone else. She takes no responsibility for McCain's gigantic collapse. Won't somone share those exit polls from the 2008 election that showed 60% said she was not qualified to be vice president. Doesn't she think this is relavant?

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:16 PM

Easy there, Rox. Talk all the smack you want about Sarah and her pantyhose (so slimming!) but take it easy on the kids. They didn't ask to have Caribou Barbie for a mom. Plus, lots of kids go through a chubby phase that they grow out of as they get taller. And actually, moose meat is very lean and contains less saturated fat than regular beef. Not my cup o' tea, but to each their own. I like to dip my grilled cheese in ketchup.

To the point, the idea that Palin could turn all of this into an actual run to the WH should scare the crap out of all of us. I'm thinking that she's only got the far right for genuine support, though. Celebrity or no, she's lost the moderates and independents.

Posted by: Kat [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:17 PM

Dip grilled cheese in ketchup? O_O ew

Palin might be able to turn her circus parade into a run for the WH, but she would never win. All it would do is make a mockery out of running for president.

Posted by: J M Ashby [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:21 PM

You should try it, Ashby. It's delish. :D

Posted by: Kat [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:25 PM

Should be the Palin UNreality show.

And while everyone is laughing at her run for prez, remember we elected Bush-TWICE.

Downright scarey.

Posted by: Jan [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:33 PM

I mentioned the kids because she used them as props until the media began to look critically at her duplicity. She says leave her kids alone but, dragged them around on the state's dime, even when they weren't invited. She compares her children to Obama's treatment but, Obama's daughter didn't get knocked up. There is no comparision. Also, I recall the use of Palin's baby by Bristol to hide her stomach, literally using the child as a shield...until they got busted.

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:35 PM

Most disturbing is when Palin talks about getting a call from Bristol when her pregnancy was now national news - she didn't say to herself right there, I'm outta here! It's clear where her priorites were and unfortunately, they weren't with Bristol.

Posted by: roxsteady [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 12:37 PM

@Rox - I understand that Palin has used her children as media pawns, but I was reacting to your description of their physical appearance. Kid's body image is screwed up enough these days, plus I think there are plenty of things we can go after Palin on without resorting to petty knocks at her young kids.

Posted by: Kat [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 1:46 PM

I realize the fact that approximately half (close enough for the cheating to work) the country was fooled into voting for Bush twice makes the whole Palin as Prez thing plausable. But before we all go insane imagining that particular unthinkable, remember that Bush was fairly low profile and unknown plus he ran on the gravitas of his father. Low info voters eat that shit up. Palin, on the other hand, is making quite sure there is not a soul alive who does not know what she's about. She will not be able to fly in under the radar like Bush did. Relax. Stay vigilant and continue to monitor, but relax. She doesn't even really want to be Prez.

Posted by: Scout [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 2:00 PM

@Kat! The operative word there is "you" think there are plenty of things we can go after re: Palin without resorting to petty knocks at her young kids.

You are entitled to say what YOU want.

So is Rox.

And what Rox said is not petty, nor did she "knock" the kids.

She used a descriptive ADJECTIVE - and not even the "fat" one. Rox was merely commenting on how she thought they APPEARED from her perspective because of consumption of large quantities of fatty animal flesh, and I agree.

You gonna' police us all?

And Sarah trots her kids out and uses them like fashion accessories. Don't they know the word "no"? "I don't want to go, Mom"! I don't want to eat that, Mom"!

Little robot Stepford kids, IMO! Following their cult leader.

I'm a retired, female HS teacher. Mother and grandmother. So don't come after me about how I couldn't possibly understand re: poor female body image. And kids. Love 'em.

But some people should not breed. Palin is one of those.

But since she did, the kids need to grow a SPINE - soon. Or they'll all be little "victims," too. Just like mommy dearest.

BTW, all. Love the fact that this so-called possible leader of the free world is in a war of words with a teenager - Levi. Who the ADULT here?

Certainly not the bigoted, hypocrite, lying, sack 'o chit Palin.

Pathetic doesn't begin to describe this person and her beyond dysfunctional family.

A Jerry Springer show extraordinaire!!

GAG!!

Posted by: laddieluv [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 3:06 PM

Wow. Way to raise the level of discourse there, laddieluv.

Posted by: Kat [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 3:29 PM

so the daughter is 8 or 10 or 14 & she says "Mom, I don't want to go up on stage with you"...what happens then?? Hmm?

It's not okay to go after Palin's kids. They were put in the spotlight over something that was NOT of their choosing. Yes, they were used. Yes, their parents paraded them around "like fashion accessories". None of that makes it ok for you to use the, too, or to take a swipe at their looks or what they might or might not eat - ESPECIALLY when you have no clue what that might include!
IT'S NOT OK! But congratuations, laddieluv and rox, you've successfully sunk to the level of the GOPers remarking on Chelsea Clinton's or Amy Carter's looks.
"Who the ADULT here?"...well, we know who it's not.

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 3:39 PM

Sarah Palin's kids were used as props, but they had little choice in the matter (you betcha and such as).
There's plenty of ammunition to use on Sarah herself, one does not need to belittle any teen-age girls body or self-image (even one thrust onto the national stage by her overly-ambitious insane mother).

On the other hand, if you'd like to point out the hypocrisy of Bristol Palin being an ambassador for the Candies Foundation (established by a company that plies their wares by blatantly using teenagers as sex objects), feel free.

It's a matter of selecting your targets carefully.

I understand Kat's point, and I'm siding with her on this one.

Posted by: Wolfe_Tone [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 3:42 PM

Why should Palin use substance and real issues--she would have to study and use big words. She has more success with winking and blaming and that's what her supporters want to hear--more rogueiness.

Posted by: nawog [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 5:25 PM

Yes, ceu!

The adult is certainly not you!!

Your judgmentalism and need for control makes you (and like-thinkers who want to tell others what they MUST think/do/feel!) the CHILDISH ones.

And yes! Children of "10" need to learn how to say NO. Just 'cause one gives birth doesn't give a person the right to abuse kids by forcing them into individually uncomfortable situations for the parents own gain or physical/psychological needs.

Ya! It's hard. You'd know if you came from (let's say "hypothetically")a home where the mother was a cold, mean, abusive alcoholic. You get hit. You get left. You get embarrassed. Much more. But you finally find your voice and say NO.

Not easy. But one doesn't blame anyone. And you turn out to be a better person for it.

You just have to live with the fact that none of it was your fault. And you never had a mother, for example. Hypothetically.

But saying NO is the beginning. Not being a victim.

You gonna' tell me what to think and feel again, @ceu/Kat or anyone else?

LMBO!! You control freaks. Such an attractive trait.

LMBO!!

HA! You are one slick bastard, Wolfe. You managed to escape the wrath of grandma. She must know about your dashing good looks!

Posted by: Kat [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 7:07 PM

Just for the record, Laddieluv, a victim is someone who has usually said "no", and been hurt anyway. So, saying "no" doesn't mean you aren't a victim.

Just thought i should clarify that.

Posted by: Political Party Pooper [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 7:07 PM

No one's telling you how to think.
You're comfortable with taking cheap shots at other people's kids & wallowing it in, great, but don't be surprised or offended when the rightwingers take some digs at Sasha & Malia Obama - also not acceptable, except of course, apparently, to you. What goes around...

Posted by: ceu [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 7:29 PM

Still trying to figure that one out, Kat. Perhaps my dashing good looks combined with my charm and wit.

Laddieluv said:

LMBO!! You control freaks. Such an attractive trait.

I doubt anyone was trying to tell you how to think, Laddiluv.

I believe they were just suggesting that maybe you should.

Posted by: Wolfe_Tone [TypeKey Profile Page] at November 17, 2009 7:53 PM

@Wolfe_Tone and the other (ahem) "kind" people here who seem to have completely misunderstood my defending Rox's use of the adjective "chubby" re: the Palin girls.

Back at you with the "thinking" activity. Try it.

And making an observation about a youngster's appearance as "chubby" in the context that Rox did is not a "cheap shot." Not said with a mean-spirited and/or taste of hate at all.

An observation. Said with in a fairly placid "tone."

Those of you that viewed that as an attack against the Palin kids, so be it. You're entitled. That was not the intention. Your perception of "nastiness" (which is the only reality) was not my intention in mentioning that I agreed with Rox.

@Ceu. Please unclench. You'll feel better. LMBO! Has nothing to do with the insane, demented, extreme and hate rightwingers saying it's ok to do really awful things to the sweet Obama kids.

Rox wasn't saying that re: the Palin kids. Nor was I.

I've posted here for a couple years. Love Bob's blog. Never been attacked before.

First time for everything.

Hope those that did feel better having turned on one of your own.

I'm a tough old MN "broad"! You can't scare me; I teach! LMBO!

But isn't that "eating one of your own" a re-thug tactic? I'm just saying.........

I'm done. If you have more "kind" words for me, you may have the last. It's obvious you need that.

Have a great evening all!
