'V' Will Be the New Wingnut Meme
Has Glenn Beck mentioned the new V series yet? Apparently the plotline about the alien visitors mirrors the Obama campaign. At least, that's what the Chicago Tribune is saying:
Imagine this. At a time of political turmoil, a charismatic, telegenic new leader arrives virtually out of nowhere. He offers a message of hope and reconciliation based on compromise and promises to marshal technology for a better future that will include universal health care. The news media swoons in admiration -- one simpering anchorman even shouts at a reporter who asks a tough question: "Why don't you show some respect?!" The public is likewise smitten, except for a few nut cases who circulate batty rumors on the Internet about the leader's origins and intentions. The leader, undismayed, offers assurances that are soothing, if also just a tiny bit condescending: "Embracing change is never easy."
President Obama is a Lizard People in 5... 4... 3... 2...

Yeah, but seeing as how that's the same basic plot line from the original series in the 80s, did that make it the meme against Reagan? Though I don't doubt some wing nuts could latch onto something that stupid, and I believe overall the general electorate in this country is beyond stupid, I gotta believe that most will be able to tell fantasy from reality.

The lizard people lost the Minnesota senatorial race so they have to find another way to push their agenda.

I don't know - the leader of the fledgling resistance skewered the Visitor's sleeper cell's activities as "starting unnecessary wars" and fomenting "economic collapse"... sounded like one of the writers was accusing GWB of being a V.

Actually they have changed the plot to reflect the modern world. The original idea that became the first V series was going to be fascists taking over America but apparently they could not get that on early 80's tv in its original form. So they changed it and made it into aliens, the Visitors symbol looked like a retro swastika as a clue to what they originally represented. Scifi channel has been showing the original series all week long, it's great, check it out.
