Best Political Movies of the Decade
Off the top of my head:
1. Why We Fight
Arguably the greatest political documentary of all time.
2. Fahrenheit 9/11
Michael Moore's masterpiece. This movie helped me get through the second Bush term.
3. Idiocracy
Palin + Bush + FNC + Teabaggers = Brawndo!
4. Thirteen Days
I could watch this with my hair on fire.
5. The Contender
President The Dude! And Gary Oldman! And shark steak!
6. Bowling for Columbine
Michael Moore's other masterpiece.
7. SiCKO
Michael Moore's other masterpiece.
8. The Fog of War
Don't watch this right after watching Why We Fight. Your brain will melt.
9. Food, Inc.
The emerging crisis of this century.
10. The Corporation
Just really goddamn scary.
Also, Walmart: The High Cost of Low Prices and Who Killed the Electric Car. Any other really great ones I missed?

How about Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room? One of the few films I've attended where people were so infuriated that they screamed expletives at the screen.

I haven't seen the ENRON doc yet. Sounds like a good time!

Drat, meant to say "the beginning of our 8 year long dark ride." Now it's lost all dramatic effect:(
The Contender just might be my favorite since I lurvs The Dude plus the scene at the end where he calls out Oldman gives me chills every time.

The Danish, original "Brothers" (not the US remake that just opened). Not a documentary and not strictly "political" like the others, but devastating and unforgettable.

I have more - I can't stop myself.
Children of Men: I don’t know if everyone would consider this a political film per se, but I think it’s one of the best movies of ANY kind in the past decade. This, to me, is our future if people don’t get their heads out of their asses.
I love documentaries, so I’d like to recommend some others. These may not qualify as part of the Top 10 of the decade, but I’d certainly include them among the best.
Shut Up & Sing
Trumbo
Sacco & Vanzetti
The Trials of Henry Kissinger
Taxi to the Dark Side
Sir! No Sir!
The U.S. vs. John Lennon

Geez Bob, how did you miss Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed ?? Sheesh!! It's not political, but it's pure gold. Gold I tell ya... GOLD!

Good picks. It feels like The Contender was a movie from the mid 90s, so much older than just 9 years old.

"The Yes Men" did some good stuff.
Here's some more-
Iraq for Sale.
Loose Change(if you're into that sort of thing)
Zeitgeist
Hacking Democracy
No End In Sight
The Ground Truth
You Can't Stay Neutral On A Moving Train
As someoone already said, I could do this all night.
This was a decade in which I watched more documentaries that I can remember in one post.
The one I found most helpful was "A Century Of Self."
"This series is about how those in power have used Freud's theories to try and control the dangerous crowd in an age of mass democracy." - Adam Curtis
Good good stuff. I highly recommend it. My number 1 pick.

Bob, I can't believe no one has mentioned Standard Operating Procedure (link is to the entire movie on Google vids). This film exposes the incredible hypocrisy of Abu Ghraib and left my jaw wide. Fucking. Open. And pissed the fuck off.
Basically, the images get put in order for the very first time. You can actually SEE how Abu Ghraib happened in a kind of photo montage. The jaw-dropping thing is what gets labeled "standard operating procedure" versus what counts as criminal activity by Lynndie England and company. All they did was imitate what was already being done to prisoners ALL AROUND THEM.

Hey bob
"Roger and Me" - also by michael moore was really good too and shows you exactly how GM arrived at their current state, 20 years ahead of time.
Thirteen Days is deffinantly an awesome movie.
I also recommend "No End in Sight"

The Panama Deception. Entire doc is on YouTube. Check it out. It's Iraq deja vu, except that it was 30 years previous.

I just can't get behind "Who Killed the Electric Car?" Not when Mel Gibson is your primary source. That doc does not age well.

"Control Room" about the demonization of al Jazeera and the manipulation of the media during the criminal Iraq War. Definitely one of my Top Ten.

Not sure if these are in the decade, but what about "Bob Roberts" and "Bulworth"?

Here's my 2 cents:
1) Flow (not entirely political but since you included the excellent Food, Inc)
2) King Corn (not entirely political but since you included the excellent Food, Inc)
3) Maxed Out
4) Taxi to the Dark Side
5) Control Room
6) The Yes Men Fix the World
7) Outfoxed
8) Taxi to the Dark Side
9) Enron - Smartest Guys in the Room
10) Capitalism A Love Story.
So many, but your top 10 are great too.
