White House Controls Morning Joe? That's Rich.
I don't know who this wingnut is, but he's claiming that the White House is controlling the content of -- get this -- Morning Joe.
His evidence is a radio clip from Ed Schultz remarking about the White House texting Joe Scarborough during the show to complain about the number of Senate bill opponents had been on the show.
Is it really possible that the White House has a direct line to MSNBC's hosts, communicating with them during their live broadcasts? Now THAT'S state control!
I get emails from people all the time, it doesn't mean they control the content of what I do. Why? Because anyone can email anyone!
But here's the funniest part of the wingnut's item:
Now, imagine if Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, or another non-"progressive" host had been caught taking orders from Bush during the program.
They did! The Bush White House fed talking points to Fox News all the time. How do we know this? Scott McClellan told us.
Feeding talking points to a network is a hell of a lot different than texting Joe Scarborough and complaining about a lack of balance.
Adding... This from James Joyner via John Cole.

maybe Ed is upset that he's not getting direct tweets from the White House.
Also, I didn't see the broadcast, but if the WH is sending these messages, and Joe and Mika are saying the WH is sending the messages, then where is the duplicity? It's out in the open, something called transparency, unlike you example above, Bob, of the Bushie White House sending routine talking points to those who would use them on air without saying, "I got this from the White House today and since I agree, will repeat them verbatim."
Where were the cries from the mountaintops about the protection of Fourth Estate when Jeff Gannon/Guckert had an all access pass in the White House press corps? State controlled my ass.

Republicans -- no longer the party of conservatives
now the party of cook-coo crazies

They're mistaken if they think democrats do things the same way as the republicans who siezed power in nefarious ways. Perhaps they're thinking of the box under Bush's jacket that enabled Cheney to feed the robot

That wasn't the first time the Whitehouse contacted the show. I can't remember exactly when it was but, I do remember it was something Scarborough had been saying on the show and after after they came back from a commercial I think Mika read a text message from Gibbs if I'm not mistaken. Even though I hate this current bill, I'm not upset that they called last Thursday and got Axelrod on. While he couldn't answer Ed's question "where is the competiton" they had every right to complain about the lack of balance. It's something Scarborough does on a daily basis except, it's usually a steady stream of Republicans and their bullshit talking points!

I don't think anything clandestine or sneaky is going on, but with them suddenly calling into a show where the administration was getting hammered on health care reform shows that they know what's happening in the Senate is not sitting well with the Left and that they've shifted into damage control mode. Usually it manifests in a "Chill The Fuck Out" speech, but now it requires a full court press.

That is really funny. I am one of those political junkies who watches Morning Joe, even though it makes me very angry most mornings. I watch just because they are talking politics. Well, to be honest, a lot of time I have to change the channel. But to say the White House is controlling it is unbelievably funny. Joe loves to surround himself for the most part, with people who either agree with him or don't have the balls to take him on. And when he does have someone on who is going to take him on, he changes the subject and talks about trivial things just so they don't get a chance to get their point across.
I was watching the morning David Axelrod called in and there was no representation for the Health Care bill all morning and it was very one-sided. I was glad when Axelrod chimed in. During the election, it happened several times and not just from the Obama side, Nicole Wallace did it a few times and others. What's wrong with someone calling in to defend themselves, but with this whole twitter thing, there is way too much real time crap going on. Call me old.
