How They'll Get Him
A friend of DougJ dampens the impeachment speculation:
But weren’t the wheels already starting at the Clinton White House by this time? Clinton entered office with a Flowers and Whitewater (they were both campaign issues IIRC) and then the WH Travel Office issue broke in the first or second year of his term.Obama has nothing right now, other than maybe the little bit of land, and that was clearly not a real issue. He hasn’t lied about it, either. Plus, he seems to be really committed to his wife and family, and his wider family is both small and seem pretty sane.
Republicans need at least a 20 vote majority to impeach, plus the right kind of zealots on the Judiciary Committee. Not every Republican on the Judiciary committee is willing to wipe his/her ass with the Constitution just for political benefit.
And there’s no special prosecutor law anymore. Starr did all the legwork for the Clinton impeachment.
When I suggest that there will be an impeachment, I don't believe that the president will be removed from office. Such a thing is rare and remote. The "impeachment" in this case has always been about endless investigations leading to an attempted impeachment vote in the House. There's always a shot the Republicans would be successful, but that's not the point. The point is to hobble the president -- to politically cripple him. To destroy his legacy. Not necessarily to outright impeach and convict him. Though I'm almost positive they'd try.
And while there isn't a Ken Starr in the mix, they don't need one. We're talking about a Republican Party that's lost whatever mind it had, with wild-eyed screaming about "death panels" and "czars?" It's the party of absurdity and lies. And they're guided by two circus clowns -- one of whom is an escaped mental patient who has a chalkboard to illustrate how the president is attempting what amounts to treason against the United States. The Republicans, who refuse to repudiate either Limbaugh or Beck, will latch onto anything they can to decapitate the White House. The droid unit Mike Pence leading the charge in the House.
I mean, they're currently a distant minority party. And look what they've been able to do. The way they're treated by the press is as if they were already the majority party in Congress. Imagine what it'll be like if they actually achieve such a thing.

Jesus, Bob! Change medication! You are way too paranoid. The Dems just need to start harping on about how the Repubes are the ones keeping anything from happening. Keep the message simple and to the point:
The Republicans caused this mess.
The Republicans are blocking all efforts to fix the mess.
The president has taken the lead, and all they need to do is follow. The perfect opportunity is coming up with jobs legislation. Just let the douches try to block that and get themselves elected. Do it right, and maybe the Dems can pick up more seats.

And remember it truly lies in the hands of our brilliant electorate ............ yeah the same people that gave GW - not just one but - two effing terms in the White House!

Your last paragraph said it all Bob. The media would happily stand at the ready to treat these investigations as, just the business of running DC. The endless inquiries and investigations would be routine. The point is that if American think things are bad now, just wait until those idiots are in charge again. Just listen to the noise this morning about the budget deficit.
Instead of informing the public that the only way to decrease it, would be to increase revenue, and the only way to increase revenue is to hire more people, and the only way you can hire more people is through investment and if the private sector isn't investing or hiring, the government has to be that last resort to keep unemployment from rising further. Who doesn't get that? REPUBLICANS!

I just had to laugh and shake my head at the reference to the Obama's marriage. Isn't it a shame that in a discussion about Presidential impeachment, a happy marriage is considered a plus? I mean, what kind of country impeaches a President because of infidelity. Crazy talk. Oh, wait... Now, just imagine if Edwards had won. He'd have been adQ

(oops. My son helped me with that last comment...)
anyway, Edwards would have been impeached by now, budgets be damned!
(Now hit the enter button, kiddo.)

The Daily Kos had a diary on impeaching Obama back on Jan 11 - here. The premise is that the GOP has accused Obama of so many things that if they get back the majority in Congress they need to promise to start impeachment proceedings immediately and then lists the various accusations... Pretty good stuff

Spot on Jennifer. What's really pathetic is the media's fasciation with Edwards' underpants. As if he's still in government and is somehow relevant. Meanwhile, John Ensign is under investigation for getting his parents to pay off a staffer and his skanky wife yet, he's still employed.

I don't think the Republican party should have to repudiate Glenn Beck or Rush Limbaugh. The fact that they seem to agree with them aside, it's not their place to answer every nutty thing that gets said out there. As the fella you quote says, Clinton and Obama are apples and oranges in terms of pre-existing wonky paperwork/ethics concerns and not having a special prosecutor DOES matter. Starr's work was fundamentally necessary to the Clinton impeachment movement.
I believe that you are sincerely nervous about this but, again, it's fear mongering at this point.

I really feel like you're beating the impeachment drum a little too hard. I know the press sucks, but if these weekly impeachment postings continue, I may have to cut down my time here.
