Humble and Sincere Apologies
I've been receiving multiple reports, including from my wife, that one or more of the banner ads that runs on the blog has been attacking computers with a trojan horse. The most likely culprit is the Vundo trojan embedded into what's called a "remnant ad." I'm fairly certain it's the virus that wiped out my wife's computer a week ago, and just this morning, it attempted to do it again, but her anti-virus software seems to have stopped it (though we won't be sure until we do a thorough scan).
If you've been infected by this thing, I can't apologize enough. I'm very, very sorry.
Until we can pin down which ad is causing this, I've disabled the two prime suspects -- the banners at the top and on the left column of the blog.

Bob,
Your blog loads tons faster now. Also, I had the sam type of virus about four months ago, which means all of our virus protection companies are at least four months behind.
When you had your trouble, did you try rebooting from an earlier date? That's how I got rid of mine. Otherwise, my 'puter was in an endless cycle of start-up/shut down.

I was wondering about that. It seemed that every time I have visited this site over the last two weeks, my computer blocked a virus and had to shut down the browser.
Good catch.

WTF... another thing Obama cannot protect us from! During Bush's administration I had zero attacks while on your site. I'm calling Liz Cheyney. I cannot wait for the doom and gloom video.
I got it and it represented itself on my pc as SWP2009. I downloaded something called AVG (free and reputable---but make your own decision) and it got rid of it when my McAffe and MS Malicious Software Removal tool did not. But Bob, I don't blame you, your a victim too, and we all love to be victims. Clearly Obama and Rahm Emmanuel are at fault here.
BTW... there is a great Fresh Air from last Monday I believe with two guys who deal with this stuff all the time. A great listen for all the nerds in the auidence. Good stories of chasing bad guys on this series of tubes we all depend on so much.

I emailed you about this back in September and got no response. I haven't been able to use my laptop since. Damn you for having good content and bringing me back to this hot zone.

I had AVG running and it stopped the attack. Still, the presence of the virus on your site caused long load delays and screens that did not refresh when paging up or down. Thanks for cleaning house. Now... please pass health care reform.

Ditto here, I have AVG and it caught a trojan the other day, though I had so many tabs and windows open I wasn't sure where it had come from.
I should've known... ; )

Several months ago I was getting a virus warning and commented about it, as well as a couple of other folks. Now I use Mozilla Firefox with Adblock and don't worry about this or any other site. Loading time is much faster as well.

I meant to suggest a couple of good and free virus software.
Avast and Avira (the one I'm using now).
I used AVG for years but it started causing conflicts with very slow load times and browser shutdowns.
Also discovered that more than one virus software on a computer is not good. They seem to cancel each other out.

mattpd, I heard that show also. It was so good that I sat in my car in the cold to listen to the end.
I'm definitely getting the book.

Yeah I noticed the trojan ads a few times while visiting the past couple weeks.
I use AVG and it never fails me.
Its not really your fault Bob. It happens to well intentioned websites all the time. Its really the fault of the ad agency. What happens is you sign up to have ads flashed on your site by a certain ad group and that ad group does not check all of the ads submitted to them. So it just streams right along through them to you.
It happens with google ads a lot too. Its not a limited incident.

Got the trojan horse while on business travel last week. I use AVG at home and have never had a problem. The work laptop uses Norton and it detected it, but couldn't get rid of it. Thanks for stepping up. I was getting a lot of grief from IT wanting to know what porn sites I had been visiting.
