Impeachment Talk is 'Far-fetched'

Steve Benen disagrees about a Republican Congress impeaching President Obama:

There's no real limit to what House Republicans are capable of, but the notion that the GOP would try to impeach President Obama seems extremely far-fetched. For one thing, the president hasn't gotten stuck in any scandals, and there's no special prosecutor running around digging up dirt. For another, self-interested Republicans would fear an intense public backlash. The idea seems pretty silly.

For my part, I'm not suggesting they'll be successful. But I absolutely believe they'll try. Whatever it takes to shut down and humiliate the Obama presidency. Again, this is the party that tried to pass a resolution condemning the use of "czars" even though it's a shorthand word invented by the press. This is the party of "death panels." They might not have a special prosecutor digging up dirt, but does this iteration of the GOP really need actual dirt?

Anyway, I really, really hope I'm wrong. I just have zero regard for the reason and rationality of modern Republicans.

Bob, Bob, Bob...there are no reasonable or rational modern republicans. Of course, they could be out there, it would be nice to hear from them, if they exist anymore.

I totally would not be surprised if they won a majority in the fall.

Bob, I don't think you need to keep protesting this. You're right, it's a very real possibility. You can't put anything past them. But I do think it's more unlikely than it was with Clinton. And as far as others thinking you're wrong, well, I think they have a point too. We just don't know. Hopefully we'll never come close to finding out.

You are paranoid and hysterical. Slap yourself back to your senses young lady and realize that there is no need to impeach Obama, he is imploding on his own, and unfortunately taking the country down with him.

That whole hopey changey thing and the Cairo speech worked really well with Iran. We now have more battleships off of the coast of Iran than anywhere else on the globe.

I'm with you, Bob, if only for this reason: I'm always surprised by the every time they raise the crazy-stupid bar. But you know what? I think they're just nuts enough to do it. I'm calling it right now.
Who wants to bet a drink on it?

I'm with Bob. They will get people like Ailes, Murdoch, Bob Perry (Texas home builder), and plenty of other big money individuals and corporations (Halliburton, Carlyle Group, and so many more) to give millions and millions to hunt up dirt.

They don't need a special prosecutor or even press for impeachment. They can cause chaos without those and even without a majority.

They are already doing it.

what was in my head was...'would not be surprised that they would do this'....if they won in November.

Let them try. Let them try to impeach the first minority president. The GOP would be done. Shiiit, don't get Al Sharpton riled up. Intense back lash is putting it mildly.

I think we all need to recognize that we "just have zero regard for the reason and rationality of modern" AMERICANS. The republicans are NOT stupid and are being VERY rational if you look at their real goal--the destruction of democracy--and it is the electorate that keeps voting for them that is ultimately responsible.

This is the same party of anti-labor/anti-consumer/anti-environment crackpot trickle-down theorists and off-to-glory-faced C-Street culture warriors that spent tens of millions of dollars playing scratch and sniff with presidential DNA on a blue dress.

If you dismiss these sociopaths and nihilistic dayroom outpatients while they run around the American asylum flinging corporate feces at zoo monkeys telling yourself that people are intuitive enough to see through the lying insincerity of republican party talking points or the failures for which they stand, you are making a lazy and dangerous calculation.

Republicans are lying evil motherfuckers and don't you and your dismissive complacent ass forget it.

oh MrBrink, will you marry me? :)

I have thought for a year that these fuckwits don't get the fact that if something happens to Obama, or if he gets impeached, MCCAIN DOES NOT BECOME PRESIDENT. I really thing they are so stupid that they think that is how it works.

If only I was worthy, veralynn.
