White House Leadership on the Public Option

At first, I agreed with Ezra's post that the White House is, again, failing to lead on the public option.

However, it's become clear that even the most hardline supporters of the public option know that any serious rekindling of the public option debate will (somehow) put the whole thing in jeopardy. In fact, Ezra posted something about Jay Rockefeller and his brutal honesty about how even the senators who signed the letter supporting the public option are concerned that it could actually derail the whole process.

So perhaps at this point it might be better to revisit the public option later after the bill itself becomes law. I would prefer to see the public option passed, but it sounds like the Senate is still composed of cowards -- even in the face of very popular policy.
