B for Batshit Crazy
The Republican Governors Association, lead by Boss Haley Barbour, has chosen to use Guy Fawkes as the theme for its new website. Yes, The Guy Fawkes.
The Republican Governors Association has embraced the symbolism of Fawkes, launching a rather striking website, RememberNovember.com, with a video that showcases far more Hollywood savvy than one can usually expect from Republicans. Again, the Fawkes tale has been twisted a bit. This time, President Obama plays the role of King James, the Democratic leadership is Parliament, and the Republican Party represents the aggrieved Catholic mass.
Guy Fawkes, as we all know, was a terrorist who intended to blow up Parliament and assassinate the British political leadership.
Yes, the Republicans have indeed gone mad.
And by the way, the little icon for the site looks like the WTC towers. I don't know if that was deliberate, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Steve Benen: "It's a reminder that the Republican mainstream made a right turn at scary, and have arrived right at stark raving mad."

@Mather Z, to paraphrase Ben Franklin*, "Our terrists are good, it is only your terrists that are evil."
*at least the version of him in 1776 ( the musical, not the McCullogh[sp] book)

The Remember November Anthem video is a brilliantly Faustian execution. It is daresay, the Triumph Of the Will for the G. O. P. in two thousand ten. Notice how the word killed, in the phrase, "We've killed what made us a great nation" is spoken not over the image of President Obama, but as the afterimage lingers in our mind.
On a practical note, I'd like to see all the footage library sales receipts so I can know what images were stolen and what were paid for.

When the plot to destroy government is uncovered and they are all drawn and quartered, do we get a new holiday out of this?

I didn't see the WTC towers, but saw the HRC equality sign (different colors, though).
It does not seem to matter whom they select for their symbolic "leader," because, obviously, they have revealed that they are completely leaderless. Is it Beck, Palin, Limbaugh, McConnell (the only brave enough to actually run for office, yet not brave enough to do the right thing)?
Awesome blog, Bob!

I really do mean that - this blog is awesome. I love the stories you find, the issues you present. Awesome Blog gives hope that not everything is lost; not without a fight, at least.

I think the pick of Fawkes is because these idiots are attempting to coopt the movie V for vendetta and paint themselves as the character V. That suggests that, as usual, they compleatly misunderstood that movie and its message just like they misunderestimate everything else.
They see it is a movie about one man going against a fascist government and they think of the teabaggers against President Obama, even though the movie came out under Bush and fascism is a right-wing phenomena (blame the pantload for this one).
I think it's probable that they are basing their knowledge of Guy Fawkes off of V for Vendetta, because the real Guy Fawkes was basically a terrorist who was executed for trying to blow up Parlament. Before Halloween was celebrated in England, they celebrated the capture and execution of Fawkes.
Penny for the Guy anyone?
