Super Bugs Courtesy of Monsanto

Pink bullworms win the contest. They're officially resistant to Monsanto's pest-killing genetically modified cotton known as "Bt." So...

[Monsanto is] now advising farmers to buy a newer Bt variety, one that combines two genes -- and costs more. Indeed, some Indian scientists suspect that Monsanto is claiming Bt-resistance sooner than its actual emergence so that it can sell the more expensive, two-gene seeds and make a higher profit.

Okay, so Monsanto has both ushered in the era of indestructible super bugs and it's positioned itself as the only corporation that can kill it. Therefore everyone has to pay up or starve.

Monsanto: Good people!
