The Ed Show

I'll be on The Ed Show on MSNBC sometime around 6:30 EDT to talk about how the Republicans are screwing the middle class and the economy.

UPDATE: Video courtesy Heather at C&L:

I'm Very Serious. I tried to incorporate a variety of MSNBC things. The Lawrence O'Donnell scowl and the Chris Hayes hair and glasses combo.

Great bit on The Ed Show!

You did terrific Bob.

Loved it.

Posted by: Jan [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 6:38 PM

I liked your comment regarding the middle class being tricked into voting against their own interests when they vote Republican. It's sooo true. The sad thing is...those folks don't care. They have a greater fear of being screwed up the ass by teh gays than to worry about economic disaster and disparity.

Nice gig, Bob.

Just saw you on Ed. I didn't recognize you at first, but when I saw your name at the bottom, I recognized that. I read all of your 'stuff' at HuffPo and have enjoyed some laughs and always agree with what you have to say. And what you said on Ed tonight is spot on. I have republicant in-laws and I have tried to get them to understand that they are voting against their own best interests! I just don't get that. I hope to see you around the msnbc shows more! Thanks.

Nice job dude. Intense!

Posted by: jpfrankenstein [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 6:51 PM

Great job--caught the tail end and you made me sit up and listen. Hope to see more of you! Great to put the face with the name.

Posted by: nawog [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 7:01 PM

I REALLY like that you called out the conservadems along with the Republicans. I hope we see lots more of you, but maybe on Rachel. Good job!

Applause! Applause, Bob!

Always watch Ed. And there you were.

Super job. Outstanding points made.

And you never "ummed" or used "I'm like." grins.

A breath of fresh air. LOL!

Seriously, Bob, spot on. Hope to "see" more of you on MSNBC.

Thanks so much, everyone! I was trying out my very serious Lawrence O'Donnell scowl.

Full report on next week's podcast. It's a very weird and awkward experience doing those uplink things.

Posted by: Bob_Cesca [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 8:29 PM

oh shooot.....i don't get MSNBC.

Video clip out yet?

[big congrats, Bob!]

Posted by: nicole473 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 8:31 PM

No,no Lawrence O'Donell scowl, please. I was one of the voices jostling for his show on MSNBC,but lately he has been particularly hard-edged and over the top critical on every little thing in Keith's spot, so I am a little turned off. However, I will have to wait and see what he does in his own show before I make a judgement call.
Glad that you are putting it out there. Go Bobby,
make a difference!

Posted by: caribbeanobserver [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 8:37 PM

I wanted him to get a show, too, caribbeanobserver until last August and watching him during the worst of the healthcare debate. I wasn't sure if he was Mr. Doom & Gloom because he really thought it couldn't be done, or if his turning into a shrew was due to jealousy because they couldn't get it done in 1994 with Clinton. It seems that the more he appears on Morning Joe, the closer he is to morphing into a pod person. Did you catch his "surprise" that the White House (read Obama) claimed to have no responsibility in the Shirley Sherrod firing? I had to hit the info button on the remote to check my channel.

Crooks and Liars has the clip for anyone who missed it.

Really great job, Bob!!! :)

If your friends at MSNBC invite you to have an off-the-record e-chat, don't do it, man.

Good to actually see your face. ;)

Hmmm...you look a little bit like - dare I say it - Dr. Herbert West.

Just to keep things fair, people mistake me for Roger from the show "What's Happening!" all the time.

Posted by: Lexaburn [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 10:09 PM

Also, you look like...ScarecroooW!

I'm messing around tonight.

I guess I'm saying you struck me as an individual in my field, and no I don't mean biochemistry or organized crime.

Everyone who actually cares knows and despises the Republibastards for what they are doing. Why just the other day a friend and I were discussing what their long-term game could be, and we both concluded that they simply want everyone to feel miserable so they can come in as heroes. The problem with this strategy is that as we all feel miserable incrementally, and gains they just so happen to make in this so-called "off-election year" will not be a boon for their side. That, along with the idiotic theatrics they confuse with populist posturing will ultimately spell defeat for them. People are watching these imbeciles. Where Democrats look weak, Republicons look evil. Where Dems appear intimidated, Republicons appear insane. When Democrats look strong, Republicons look like Republicons - never a good thing.

Posted by: Lexaburn [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 10:22 PM

You're right Lexaburn, minus the hero part. They dont care about that. They just want everyone to be miserable and desperate. This increases their power.

Ok, I gave my comment above...why rehash? Time for some fun with Bob & Elvis a la radio...headphones on, martini poured...I'm outta here. G'nite Los Angeles! (hey, I was on business travel. I missed the Thursday premire.)

Goddamn Awesome Bob! Gesh you make Ed look old you lil whippersnapper. Excellent points and I hope they bring you back soon.

Posted by: bjritz [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 11:24 PM

Excellent work Bob!

Posted by: Leeman67 [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 30, 2010 11:39 PM

I'm still giggling.

Posted by: ELDING [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 12:01 AM

Great job,Bob.
I have always hoped they would have you comment, have sent emails suggesting it, and I am so happy it happened.
I emailed MSNBC tonight to praise your work.

Posted by: JDS [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 12:30 AM

Oh my god, look how Very Seriously cute you are! The hair is definitely less Chris Hayes and more Sherrod Brown, but that's a (very) good thing 'round these hyar parts.

And such a smarty pants. Bravo! When are you and Elvis gonna have video podcasts?! We'll be sponsoring the shit out of those!

Posted by: pea [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 1:14 AM

I swear, all I could think of as you were nodding and frowning was Mr. Horse from Ren & Stimpy.

"No sir, I don't like it."

Posted by: Justin Rosario [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 1:25 AM

Bob, you actually have a voice, wow!

Posted by: FIONA [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 6:16 AM

Very serious suit, Bob. And, great points. It must be freaky to have only about a minute to say what you need to say and to do it without sarcasm or screaming.

Posted by: ec [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 6:35 AM

Sweet! All suited and tied and respectable-d up, you're looking like the Brundlefly of Christian Bale and Gavin Newsom and, around the eyes, Greg Giraldo, if they somehow happened to stumble into a teleporter pod together.

Very cool and especially polished for your 1st appearance.

Posted by: Josh Dobbin [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 8:02 AM

What's this? A talking head who isn't pushing a current book or video? ...Wait, that's Fox News, isn't it? Sorry.

Better you than me, Bob. I don't know that I'd have the self-restraint necessary to not just rip into Washington and live, on television, ask them what the fuck they are doing? Seriously.

But, the next time you're on, if the talk gets around to the deficit, please make the suggestion that you believe our Federally elected officials should be earning minimum wage without benefits. I'd love to see the conservative reaction to THAT!

Posted by: Political Party Pooper [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 8:20 AM

Good job Bob with the stern frown look.

It's obvious you were on there just to help Ed kill some time while denouncing Republicans and Conservative Democrats. Not sure what else was accomplished.

Good job!

Also, just drawing attention to "The rich are getting richer and the poor or middle class are stuck in a rut" doesn't really explain what is going on other than default assumtions about this or that person's opinion about what's "fair."
We all know that the bottom earners aren't stuck there necessarily (young just out of school start poor, then make more as they get older. The super rich aren't rooted either. Some made a bundle last year but never will again.
In recent years, the lower 50% or so aren't making the kinds of gains the outlier super rich are. True, but Bob and Ed didn't explain why that is a bad thing. If the super rich are swallowing up the available wealth, making it hard for the rest of us to improve our lot, say it and explain it. I'd like to hear what the impact of the "income gap" getting wider and wider is beyond "That's just so unfair." (Not trying to be critical of Bob here, but the income gap is always trotted out by the Left as (in this case) proof that Conservatives have it in for the middle class.)

You look like you should have a british accent.

Posted by: Allonfla [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 10:12 AM

Bob,

I'm betting you only wore the tie, shirt, and jacket. Down below, where the camera didn't go, you were wearing boxers, weren't you? Well...weren't you?

Posted by: Political Party Pooper [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 11:18 AM

Totally commando.

Posted by: Bob_Cesca [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 12:36 PM

Atta Boy!

Way to go, Bob. Awesome!

Posted by: outofline [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 2:39 PM

Great Job Bob!
Suit = Very Mad Men (and cool).
You were wearing jeans weren't you!

Ed Show Today... Maddow tomorrow!

Posted by: Big_Ben [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 3:58 PM

Nice job Bob. Of course I disagree with all of the points you made but it was a nice piece. Congrats.

Posted by: Wild Goose [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 4:53 PM

Bob for Maddow where you can really get into the business at hand. Yeah!

Posted by: caribbeanobserver [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 6:26 PM

Sweet! This just made my day!

Posted by: Anne [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 6:38 PM

Good job but I'm not sure about the scowling bit.....I always think of you as a smiling person.....just my mental image of you from the radio show. Congrats!

Posted by: Irish Girl [TypeKey Profile Page] at July 31, 2010 9:41 PM

You looked hella serious Bob! Good job though. Ed Schultz strikes me as someone who is good to have on your side but not as analytical as a Rachel Maddow, for example. Glad you broke it down for everyone.

For some reason this clip reminds me of this song.
