Hallowed Ground

Daryl Lang provides a series of photos of various acceptable trespasses upon the "hallowed ground" in the blocks surrounding Ground Zero.

I think it's worth summarizing the point again. If the blocks surrounding Ground Zero are, in fact, hallowed ground, then let's keep it sacred and historical. Raise the money to buy up all of these buildings and expand the Ground Zero memorial. But to call it hallowed ground while incongruously permitting titty bars and OTB facilities is an absolute bastardization of "hallowed" -- it makes it seem as though the definition of "hallowed" is hyper-selective -- so selective that only one address is in violation of the term.

But of course I'm not pushing for an expansion of the memorial. Personally, if anything, I'd rather they shit-can the under-Ground Zero shopping mall. I can hardly think of anything more offense to stick into the actual ground than a stupid mall.
