Majority of the Oil is Gone? Huh?

What?

“The vast majority of the oil has been contained, it’s been burned, it’s been cleaned,” [White House energy adviser Carol] Browner said on CBS’s “Early Show” today. The remaining oil “will weather, it will break down naturally. Mother Nature will do her part.”

So a "vast majority" of 4.9 million barrels -- or 200,000,000 gallons -- of oil is gone. As if on cue as soon as BP capped the gusher.

Right.

Okay.

UPDATE: From the AP:

NEW ORLEANS – BP claimed a key victory Wednesday in the effort to plug its blown-out well as a government report said much of the spilled oil is gone — though what's left is still nearly five times the amount that poured from the Exxon Valdez.

While I'd love to have the optimism of the administration -- whistly bright-side and all -- there's nothing to celebrate here. When I see Carol Browner and Thad Allen and BP executives scarfing down Gulf shrimp and oysters by the bushel, I might start to warm up to the idea.
